Finding An Internet Access Provider That Will Meet Your Needs

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Your internet access provider can make you happy or sad. They can also save you time or cost you precious time. How do you make sure that you are satisfied and feel good about your internet access provider? You can ensure that you have made the correct choice for you and your family by researching and weighing the pros and cons of each provider.

Where do you start? First find an internet access provider that has a proven track record and good customer service ratings. Make sure that the customer service department is available 24/7. Call the customer service line to see how quickly you reach a customer service representative and ask them questions to see how confidently and thoroughly they answer your questions. This will give you a pretty good idea of how the customer service department will treat you if you have a problem with their service.

See what each internet access provider offers their users. How many email addresses are available for each account? Is there a limit on the number of hours you can use per month? Do they offer SPAM blocker and/or virus protection to their users? These are all valid questions that should be answered before you choose an internet access provider. This will help you to narrow down your decision between a few providers.

Do they have different billing options for your convenience? Do you want the payment to come directly from your checking account or would you like to use a debit or credit card? You need to take these options into account if you have a specific payment method that you prefer.

The key to choosing the right internet access provider is research. Call and visit different internet access provider’s websites to compare the features of each. Make a list of features that each internet provider offers along with their price. In this way you can compare the benefits of each side by side. The key is to make your decision using a balance of benefits and cost. A lower cost could possibly mean that you have a lousy connection so be sure that you get recommendations from friends, family, and rating websites. If they do not offer benefits that are needed for you and your family, then it does not matter what price it is. If it is not useful, then why have it? Make sure that your internet access provider meets your needs and wants and you are sure to find one that you will be satisfied with!

Why A GED Is Not Such A Great Option

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Many individuals may feel that high school is not for them and they would prefer to get a GED and enter the workforce early. After all, a GED stands for General Equivalency Diploma, meaning it is equal to the high school diploma and it takes less work. The GED may seem like the easy way out for many, but the fact is a GED is not such a great option.

The unfortunate thing about the GED is that it does not allow you to get a full education. Yes, you have to pass a test to get it, but the individual misses out on too much information that would be taught in a high school class that is not on the test. Of course, the student may think that most of it is useless information, but the fact is it makes you a person with a more rounded education.

The GED also does not teach you self-discipline. It is, as stated, the easy way out, but in the end will make things much more difficult. When you have to attend classes on a daily basis and pass in homework on time, it teaches you self-discipline. Not passing in homework and being late or absent to classes does not hurt anyone but the student and their grade. A person that is getting their GED misses out in this important life lesson.

Another reason a GED is not such a great option is if the individual is going to apply for college, they may have a difficult time. Colleges will want to see the student’s high school transcripts and when they see they dropped out and received their GED, they may look a little harder at their potential student. Will the student be able to get through the classes without dropping out? Will the students fully apply themselves? The colleges will look at this GED student closer than others.

While the GED will allow you to get a job and even go to college, it does not provide you with the full education you deserve. A high school diploma requires you to complete a set of courses designed to give you an education in several subject areas, as well as allowing you to enhance them with enrichment classes and extra-curricula activities. By getting your GED, you’re missing out on a lot of great information and experiences.

The Amazing Power of the Human Will

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

The human will is the most incredible thing. I believe it is the human will that keeps us going, when everyone else expects us to sit, or even quit. I have always been fascinated by the heroes and sheroes who have made indelible marks in world history; and illustrated distinguished triumphs over seemingly, insurmountable adversity.

I can vividly recall reading about Wilma Rudolph when I was in grade school. Her life epitomized, “breaking through limitations.” Over the last three decades, I have thought about Wilma when so-called, “limitations” presented themselves in my own life. I think of Wilma, and I am passionately reminded of the amazing power of the human will.

Wilma Rudolph was born prematurely and weighed only 4.5 pounds. Most of her childhood was spent in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee. There, she was bedridden as she battled double pneumonia, scarlet fever and polio. At six years old, she lost the use of her left leg. Subsequently, she was fitted with leg braces. Later on in life, she was often quoted as saying: “I spent most of my time trying to get them off. (I had an uncompromising resolve) to be a normal kid.”

At the age of 16, when she was only a sophomore in high school, The 5′ 11″ Wilma Rudolph won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. And, in the 1960 Rome Olympics, Rudolph became “the fastest woman in the world.” She also was the first American woman to win three gold medals in one Olympics. She won the 100-and 200-meter races; and also anchored the U.S. team to victory in the 4 x 100-meter relay, breaking records along the way.

Wilma Rudolph is remembered by family and admirers alike, for her incredible calm and graceful demeanor when under pressure. Valiantly and brilliantly, she removed all of her “struggles” during the course of her lifetime. She once said: “The most important aspect is to be yourself and have confidence in yourself … triumph can’t be had without a struggle.”

In 1994, Wilma Rudolph died of brain cancer at the age 54. Few would argue that she lived a full, purposeful, and triumphant life. Rudolph expected victory when just about everyone else would have understood if she’d just lay down, sit or even quit. Thank you, Wilma, for being the contrary.

GPS Tracking Devices - Which System Is Right For Your Life Style And Budget?

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

It can be worth your time to educate yourself about the features of the GPS tracking devices and in the end decide which unit will best suit your needs, life style and budget.

There is certainly no shortage of GPS tracking devices available, so I think doing a little research can save you a lot time and hassle in the buying process.

Most of newly designed and developed GPS tracking devices these days feature a voice prompt that tells the direction for you to take during the entire trip.

There are basically four main types of GPS tracking devices to consider.

1. The first is in-car navigation systems, which helps you to identify your location from point A to point B in your car.

2. The second type is the portable outdoor units for outdoor type of people.

3. The third are a handheld type of GPS tracking device that have built in radios which not only allow you to communicate with your fellow hikers, but will also display everyone’s location on your screen.

4. The fourth type is a combination of the first and second type, known as PDA/GPS hybrid. GPS tracking devices of this kind offers you large screen and a PDA to help you keep organized.

If you’re on a budget, then it is necessary to decide which features of the GPS tracking devices are most important for you. If for instance you want a full featured car navigation system, it can easily run for more than $1000. The marine GPS tracking devices vary widely in prices, but a very good choice may cost no more than $1000. And, if the PDA/GPS hybrid devices interest you, the typically cost of these GPS tracking devices range from $400 to $900.

Here are some features of GPS tracking devices to consider.

In –Car Navigation System

These GPS tracking devices can be built in to your car. You can also buy a device that mounts onto your dashboard. Perhaps the desirable features of these systems include the voice guided directions, detailed built in maps, touch screens, rerouting in case you get off course, and a database with points of interest to help you locate the nearest gas station, and other establishments.

Portable Outdoors Unit

The portable outdoor units are perfect for those who want a GPS tracking device that is not limited to the car. The features that one should look for in a handheld GPS tracking device are lightweight, waterproofing, rugged, color screens, long battery life, and mapping features.

Note that the handheld GPS tracking systems are geared towards people who spend a significant amount of time outside, that’s why it is named “outdoor units”.

The Marine Systems

If you are on the water and fishing is your passion, then the marine GPS tracking devices are the right one for you. These systems are designed to be on and around water. They usually feature waterproofing, easy-to-read screens, color chart plotters, onshore and offshore maps, fish hotspots, and sonar capability.

PDA/GPS Hybrid

This type of GPS tracking device offers a good combination of the car navigation systems and handheld devices. You’ll get the large screens and a PDA to help you keep organized. However, only limited companies have tried to make these units and all have some serious limitations.

There are many companies that offer GPS devices online. You can read the reviews of each type of unit to get a better idea of the quality and if the unit will be cost effective for your budget.

Creating Online Communities

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Looking for somewhere online to meet new people, discuss hobbies, plan events, or just have fun chatting? Online forums have been around for some time on the internet and often free and easy to setup. Forums are basically online discussion web sites where people share information and chat grouped around a set of topics. One example might be a local photography club. You could setup topics around types of cameras, locations for shooting, local events and meetings, printing tips, etc. Often there are administrators and moderators that help to keep the discussion orderly and on topic.

Some items to consider when starting an online forum include…

Cost – Often you can find them for free. There will probably be some advertising on the site, but don’t most sites now a days?

Features – Does the forum support avatars, private messages, user levels, themes, etc.

Security – Is it possible to create forums that only register users can post in? Helps to avoid those spammers.

I cannot stress the last one enough. You should be completely able to control who is in your forums. One bad apple spoils the bunch. On that same note, it is common for a forums to have moderators. These are people that help enforce the rules in the forum. Make sure your choose your help wisely. When it comes to administrators, there should only ever be one. Administrators have the keys to the city and can set your forum ablaze.

Finally to make a forum a success you need to attract people to it to join. Obviously if it is for a church or some other established group, this is relatively easy. Tell your friends, family, club members. If you are starting from scratch, do the same. Tell people, show people, invite people. Check to see if your forum site is listed in search engines like google. Once you get past that initial setup and recruitment your will soon be on your way to having a forum that you and your friends can enjoy.

A Letter to the Hurricane

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Dear Hurricano,

I address you by the proper name that we gave to you, before the
whiteman, thinking that you are always in a HURRY with a CANE ,
called you the hurricane. When we first knew you, Hurricano, we
thought of you as an angry god that needed appeasement. So we
made no little a sacrifice to pacify your anger. Yet, we found
no succor from you, and we took your manace as the destiny of
these unfortunate islands of West Indies.

Now, I am sitting in my thatched bamboo hut, shivering with
cold, my hands spread across the burning firewood on the hearth,
and my son arrives in the whiteman’s ship from America, and
tells me the heart-breaking things that you are doing there. You
have transferred your fury abroad, and the land is now at war
with water.

Remember, I call you friend because we first knew you before the
coming of the Dons, before Colmbus, and before those lands that
you are now lashing your feared watery whips. Not because I
cherish your wicked acts.

For you have separated husbands from wives, children from
parents, pets from their masters. You have left your hapless
victims clinging on rooftops, trees, and mountains. Some have
entered boats and sailed to where only God knows.

You have also killed and caused griefs in many homes. You have
left widows, widowers, and orphans in your wake. What have these
victims done to you, Hurricano? If only you had husband, wife,
or children, you would have known what it is to lose a loved one.

I pity you because none shall mourn you when you pass away. And
I sympathize more with you because you do not even know whether
you are male or female. You have become a wicked nobody.

One thing about you is that you bring the good and bad in human
character when you strike. For I hear that there are now
hurricane evangelists (gospellers and devils) winning souls for
Christ; hurricane organizations (genuine and fake) soliciting
donations for victims; hurricane politicians (sincere and
insincere) playing hurricane politics; and hurricane writers
(hack and seasoned) deploring your deeds.

And more. People are deprived of their life’s property and
possessions, and others in fear of you have fled to foreign
lands. Those who used to run away from war and violence, now
flee from you.

But thank God, because my son says that it is written in the big
book called the Bible, that you will soon die! I am telling you
this , now, because I know that you will not find the time to
read it, being post-haste at all times. Not only you, but your
cohorts, the cyclones, the tornadoes, and the typhoons that are
tormenting tropical inhabitants; as well as the tsunami that
swallow lands, monster tidal waves that wreck ships, and the
unpredictable Elnino current, would also perish. If you are
destined for “hell,” Hurricano, theirs will be “twin hells.” And
then this world would have peace.

Meanwhile, I pray for the survivors of your unwelcome visit. God
above, will give them the heart to bear their loss. Just as He
has always done to us in these islands after your call.

You know that we have been a brave and enduring race since the
days of our great warrior, Crazy Horse. We have seen currents
and waves. Our eyes saw storms and tempests. Yet our generation
refuses tto die.

I send this letter to you through my son who is returning to
America. When you receive it, know that an old friend from a
fighting tribe in the Atlantic, is out, fishing at sea, and
waiting to confront you with his banana-boat. But if we don’t
meet before your death, farewell!

Your friend, Brave Heart.

2004 Poor for Movies

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Here is a case in point- 2004 was a strange, if not bad, year for movies. Now, I’m not talking about the quality of films, they were probably right on par. But, Hollywood has been growing scared. Scared to create films that fall away from standard conventions and afraid to try films that may tilt a couple heads or raise a few brows. If it wasn’t for a few HUGE films in 2004, including some that distributors were afraid of, everybody may have felt that Hollywood was losing us. However, it seems that Hollywood is willing to turn a cheek and come stronger than it ever has this century [never mind Lord of the Rings] with the bringing in of 2005.

2004 Poor for Movies

I can understand how it may be hard to fathom that Hollywood did not have one of its best years during 2004. Sure, the film companies were still able to pull in film revenues with a little over nine billion, but ticket sales were actually DOWN by a startling two percent. Now, I know this doesn’t sound like much, but it is! For the year of 2004, distributors were planning on conquering the box offices with films such as Troy, Alexander, The Whole Ten Yards, The Village and Van Helsing. However, all of these films flopped [Van Helsing is doing great with DVD though]. No matter how impressive the battles or sequences, audiences left the theatres feeling unsatisfied. So what was wrong with the films? And who saved 2004?

Four of the biggest hitters of 2004 came out of either CG animation or children’s tales. Shrek 2 began with a bang and was able to gross somewhere just under $450 million in ticket sales. Then we had Pixar’s The Incredibles, which proved that animated films with adult-style action and subject matter can still be successful [~$275 million gross]. Last of the animations was Spider-Man 2 [the fights were almost entirely animated]. I can call this an animation as the fight scenes were well animated and the film seemed to run like a perfect animated comic [~$370 million gross]. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, based of the ‘childrens’ book [I beg to differ], couldn’t lose with a darker atmosphere set up by Alfonso Cuaron [pulled in $250 million]. Obviously, the four listed films were expected to do well in the theatres and all three performed gracefully. But what about the films that nobody wanted or were afraid to touch?

The two films that were handled like boiling water were Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ and Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. Even though these films caused a lot of tension amidst their distributors [Einstein was pissed!], the two films managed to pull just under a combined $500 million in ticket sales. So that would make five big blockbusters for the year; not nearly enough. While Passion and Fahrenheit were more than plesent surprises, what about the other films?

The best thing to come out of 2004 is the amount of surprise hits that were able to maintain some theatre presence longer than just opening weekend. The only thing that hurt most the surprise hits for 2004 was the invisible barrier that would not allow a lot of films to break the $100 million mark. Here are some of the films that were able to break that mark [with a brief thought on how they were]:

  • Shark Tale- I would hope this out of a high cast CGI animation

  • I, Robot- I still don’t know if I liked this film or not. Seemed a little rushed.

  • National Treasure- One of the best surprise films all year.

  • The Village- Only got passed $100 million thanks to hype.

Luckily, Hollywood did not have to rely on only these films. Even though the industry hoped to have at least double the number of films to get passed the $100 million mark, there were some other sleeper films that helped maintain high 2004 numbers. Some of these films include Mean Girls [a teenie bopper that anybody could like], Man on Fire, and The Notebook, Friday Night Lights and Napoleon Dynamite.

What’s Wrong with Movies in 2004?

Eternal Sunshine takes you on a journey through love and the mind. The best example to give for what happened to movies in 2004 is the upcoming Academy Awards. Take a close look at the nominated films, what we have are dramas and bio-pics. People are losing interest; our top rated films are the ones that few people saw. We don’t have a Lord of the Rings this year, or any other film that people want to sit down and root for. Want further proof? Why do you think Chris Rock is stepping in as host in order to atract a younger crowd?

Also, where the hell is Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind? I know it has a few nominations, but it deserves a few more. The film, starring Jim Carrey, only grossed $34 million in ticket sales [domestically] and was probably one of the most unique and plain out cool films of the year. Forget the biographies and the straight forward dramas, Spotless offers up an extremely unique outlook on love and the new ways to handle it. And, mind you, it falls entirely away from the simple conventions overly used in films during 2004.

In conclusion– Hollywood needs to get people back in the theatres and buying tickets for films that deserve hyped attention. The best way to do this is by creating blockbusters that can actually remain in theatres longer than an opening weekend or two. Viewers are tired of films that just go through the motions and are now seeking something extremely polished or unique. Films of 2004 had lost the ability of ‘word of mouth’, but I expect that 2005 should regain all of this– as Hollywood now seems ready to take some chances.

Hire Divorce Lawyer or Use Online Divorce Forms

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

When do you need to hire a family law attorney and when is it okay to just use an online divorce form website to save a little money? This article will provide a few pointers to help you decide whether to do it yourself or retain a divorce lawyer.

What Does it Mean to Use an Online Divorce Form Website?

Essentially, using an online form website in your divorce case means that you will represent yourself and act as your own lawyer. All of the online divorce form sites have disclaimers making it clear that they are not your lawyer and are just preparing documents on your behalf. While it is your constitutional right to act as your own lawyer, there are some significant risks involved that should be evaluated before you take the online route.

Additionally, you have to evaluate the particular website you are dealing with. Most are national sites that offer forms that they claim will work in any state. However, every state has different laws. In other words, a California Divorce Decree will not be identical to a Texas Divorce Decree because the laws of the two states are not identical. So with an online divorce you are basically getting a generic form that may or may not work in your jurisdiction.

What if You Have Children?

While many of the divorce form sites claim to offer forms that address the necessary provisions regarding children (conservatorship, support, visitation, etc.), it is very risky to use these generic forms when you have children. You must remember that your divorce forms are being prepared using online software that simply fills in the blanks with your answers to very simplistic yes/no or multiple choice questions. These answers may not necessarily fit your situation or you may not fully understand the question.

This is where a competent lawyer can make a big difference. A lawyer will learn more about your situation and find out exactly what your documents need to say, instead of just the boilerplate language that the divorce website’s software spits out. If you have children, you should take the safe route and hire an experienced divorce lawyer.

What if You Own Property?

Many of the divorce form sites also claim to offer forms that will deal with the most complex of property divisions. But when it comes to dividing any property beyond personal effects (clothes, furniture, etc.), it is risky to rely solely on generic divorce forms. If you or your spouse own real estate, vehicles, 401k accounts or other retirement accounts, or have any other financial assets or liabilities, an online divorce form will not necessarily protect your interests.

A competent divorce lawyer would be able to, first, analyze your situation and determine what property division is in your best interest, and second, ensure that all the assets awarded to you were properly transferred and the titles correctly recorded on your behalf.

Conclusion

Using an online divorce form always carries a certain amount of risk. If there are no children from the marriage and no property to divide, then saving a few hundred dollars may be worth the risk and the extra work you will have to do. But for most people, especially those with children or property, it is essential to hire an experienced divorce lawyer to handle their case.

How to Avoid Bankruptcy and Clear Your Debts

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

In 2005, over 20,000 people in the UK avoided bankruptcy and succeeded in clearing their debts. This article discusses how they were able to do so and why the 15,389 people who filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of this year should have checked out the alternatives first.

In 1986, the government introduced a scheme called an Individual Voluntary Arrangement, or IVA for short. IVAs were designed to give people a legitimate alternative to bankruptcy.

The government understood that although bankruptcy had numerous disadvantages attached to it, for many debtors it seemed to be the only option. It therefore set up IVAs to give people a way to both avoid bankruptcy and clear their debts.

An IVA is a formal and private arrangement between a debtor and his/her creditors. As a result, there is no stigma attached to an IVA in the way there is with bankruptcy because no-one else needs to know about it.

If an IVA is agreed, interest on the debts frozen. This is very different to a debt management plan which many people set up as a way of trying to avoid bankruptcy. With a debt management plan, interest can continue to accrue on your debts even when the plan is in place.

An IVA allows debtors to pay off their debts via affordable monthly repayments over a five year period. These can be as low as £200 a month. Moreover, it is usual for a certain amount of your debt to be written off altogether with an IVA.

After the five years have expired and providing that you have adhered to the terms of your IVA, you are declared debt free.

An IVA offers a very good way to avoid bankruptcy and its negative repercussions. Once an IVA has been set up, your creditors are not allowed to contact you and interest on your debts is frozen.

Clear Start offers free IVA advice to help you find a legitimate alternative to bankruptcy: Avoid Bankruptcy

Massachusetts Health Insurance Plan

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Hillary Clinton and All the King’s Men couldn’t do it but the State of Massachusetts did it with out too much fuss. I’m talking about the new health insurance plan of course.

Congress sometimes acts like a hapless bunch of morons it seems. That’s a good reason to keep the important things out of their hands. They spend more money and waste more time than any other entity on earth.

Look at the MedicareRx Plan designed by these geniuses. It gave billions back to the drug industry, confused the hell out of me and all other senior citizens, and leaves a big gap in drug coverage.

Nice!

Maybe Congress should be adjourned immediately until this country can get back on its feet again. The adjournment would last until the special interest groups living in Washington–who are out to destroy our country–find themselves out of work and all have moved out of town. Congress is elected and controlled by special interest groups. It’s time to return the government to the people.

Maybe it’s time to return most powers to the states other than national defense and international relations. If congress could concentrate on that only, we would free ourselves of much of the current baloney. Mainland Security is a joke. Make each state responsible for their own interest.

We don’t need the Federal Government to tell us how to run (and screw up) our local affairs. What we need is the money they gobble up and waste continually.

Are nation is broke. The needs of the people are not being taken care of. We are International dupes.

Doesn’t something have to be done?

Well, Massachusetts has taken the lead. We no longer need a Federal health insurance plan. Let the states use the Massachusetts Plan or similar plan.

The federal government should go back to cleaning its closets.

The End

MedicareRx Plan, Hillary, Clinton, congress, Washington, DC, health insurance, Massachusetts, Romney, health care, government, states, rights
