Big Screen Entertainment Centers

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Home entertainment centers, apart from providing storage space for the audiovisual equipment, can serve as the ideal place for a family gathering every evening if you plan your entertainment center carefully.

Apart from the creative satisfaction that you will derive from this activity, you will also be able to give a unique identity that will transform your house into a well cared for home. All this will require some planning on your part.

First of all, plan your space for the PC in the entertainment center. A PC is no longer meant for work alone. You can use it to download songs, videos, and also manage digital data. You will need a few hours of set-up time for connecting it to the entertainment center. This will also include a broadband connection, either a wireless or a wired one.

While buying your entertainment center, you need to keep in mind the size of the TV you possess. There are a large number of styles and sizes available in the market, ranging from 21 inch TVs to full-size home theater systems.

You can now enjoy the benefits of both the TV and PC at the same time. While the PC makes it easier to download music, you can enjoy music, videos, or movies on the big screen backed with surround-sound speakers systems.

If you plan well, your entertainment center can serve as the perfect place for the family to sit together. These entertainment centers have enough storage space that you can also plan to keep your books there.

So if one person wants to watch TV or listen to music, he or she can use the headphones and someone else can read a book.

Also, while planning your entertainment center, do keep in mind the space requirements and also you home décor and furnishings. You can design your entertainment center as a corner cabinet, wall cabinet, or custom built cabinet.

Utilize your space well and don’t stop at anything but the perfect fit. If it is a corner entertainment center that you have opted for, you can stack two or more rounded corner units and in this way transform this empty space into a compact storage center.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

January 29th, 2006 is the first day of the Chinese New Year and is marked by the new moon of the Chinese lunar calendar. Year 4703 is the year of the Dog, but you can celebrate with an Asian themed party or an Oriental themed party any day of the year.

Chinese New Year festivities are a traditional part of ancient Chinese culture and the colors and symbols from Chinese culture make planning and decorating easy. Just follow these easy step-by-step instructions and you’ll be able to throw a stress free Asian themed party that will bring Chinese New Year joy into the lives of your friends and family.

Step 1: Planning

1. Send out invitations:

Two weeks before your party send out the invitations. Remember to indicate on the invitation that this is an Asian themed party and that guests should wear official colors of the Chinese culture – red and gold! As the host, you’ll want to be decked out in all your Asian themed finery–choose between a red satin mandarin hat or a straw Oriental hat. Accessorize your outfit with a traditional floral fan for a really fun look!

2. Select a menu:

Decide when, where, and how you are going to serve the food. China is know for it’s delicious food and unless your family owns a Chinese restaurant, you may want to make plans to serve carry out favorites like Stir fry chicken, beef and pork. For authenticity, provide chopsticks for your guests to use. Watch as they have a good time figuring out the correct way to eat with them. Don’t forget to end the meal with fortune cookies.

3. Asian theme party decorations and atmosphere:

A party without music is like shopping China Town without money. Make the mood come alive by having appropriately themed music playing softly in the background. We suggest the soundtrack for our favorite movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” to start out, then kick it into high gear later with the sounds of “Kill Bill”, “Kung-Foo Fighting”, “Wang Chug” and “One Night in Bangkok”.

Hang paper lanterns from the ceiling beginning in the corners of the room, working toward the center. Give the lanterns some glow by attaching white Christmas lights to them and winding the strands among them to create an “under the stars” effect. The lights should be dimmed, but not too dim that you can’t read the Chinatown banner along the wall.

Step 2: The Party

1. Arrival of the Guests:

Welcome guests and give each one a mandarin hat or a floral fan as they arrive. These favors are inexpensive and go a long way in making the mood for your Asian themed party come alive.

Guests can be lead to a table with name tags and magic markers. Instruct guests to write their names and their Chinese astrology signs on the name tags. (Have a place mat from your local Chinese restaurant on hand for reference if needed.) Not only do these name tags tie in wonderfully with the décor, they also provide instant introductions and conversation starters.

2. Games and activities:

* Chinese and Asia themed trivia for the Jeopardy-loving partygoers, or for a more sit-down type of party.

* For children and more adventurous adults a game of “Catch the Dragon’s Tail” can be enjoyed. Guests line up in a row putting their hands on the persons shoulder in front of them. The first person is the dragons head and the last person is the tail. The head tries to catch the tail without the guests in the body of the dragon coming unhooked. Children can take turns being the dragons head.

Step 3: Party Wrap Up

Time for party favors awards and prizes! Some ideas are:

* Metallic Fetti Swishers – They’re gold and fit your theme.

* A red envelope with small amounts of money inside – It’s a Chinese tradition and can bring good luck.

* Chinese finger traps.

* Snap and Pops – safe and fun firecrackers that ward off evil spirits.

Step 4: Clean Up

Usually the host is on their own when it comes to clean up, unless you assemble a small crew of helpers ahead of time. Party clean up can be made easier if you use paper plates and plastic silverware.

A Keepsake Jar of Summer Memories

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Our summer was certainly full of fun: outdoor barbeques, neighborhood cookouts, making ice cream, 4th of July parades, a trip to grandpa’s house, sleeping late, moving my oldest daughter into her first apartment… It never seems like the season is long enough to do everything we want to do.

Now that the summer is almost over, how do we preserve these memories? Take a few minutes before the busy routine of school begins to put together a family album of summer keepsakes. Whether it’s in a scrapbook, photo album, or shoebox, these mementoes chronicle tidbits of family life that often become lasting traditions. Your kids will love showing friends and family how they spent their summer vacation.

And don’t forget to snap a picture on the first day of school. We take a photograph in the same spot every year. My daughter left for her first year of college. In the opening page of her scrapbook were all of the pictures we had taken on the first day of school. From the scared preschooler with the little lamb name tag, to the confident, beautiful young woman she blossomed into, each picture was truly worth a thousand words.

Want a quick and easy way to make a time capsule of your summer vacation?

Find a large, clean, wide mouth jar (mayonnaise jars work well) to hold your treasures.

Gather together pictures, ticket stubs, sea shells, maps, souvenirs, pressed flowers or anything that has sentimental value from you summer vacation.

Write names and dates on the back of photographs. Place all of your items inside the jar. On brightly colored paper, write a few notes about each event. You may want to interview other family members for their thoughts as well.

Preserve your summer stories in a place of honor. Kids will enjoy getting their keepsake jar down to tell stories for many summers to come.

Well meaning advice is sometimes not needed

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Sometimes
the people that offer the most advice are the ones that you
least need the advice from.

I often meet people that try and give me advice and they are the
last people that should be offoring advice to me.

I once had a single bloke telling me how to keep hold of a woman
and amke sure you didnt lose them.

I guess he was partially able to give me advice as he had been
divorced 3 times but i think that if i wanted advice i would
have gone and gotten it from someone that was succesful rather
than someone that had failed.

When i am working in my day job
as an advice councellor i try to get the client to help
themselves rather than me telling them what to do.

I was highly trained and they taucght us to help people to help
themselves. The problem with telling people what to do rather
than teaching them to make the decisions as a process rather
than making them into emotional
cripples.

This is the reason that i say that the wrong people give advice
due to the fact that they tell you what to do rather than
telling you how you can work to sort the problem. Speedysearc

Piano Lesson Study Tips for Memorizing Music Knowledge

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Piano students need to learn music theory to tap into all their musical potential. This involves some memorization of facts, however, so that they come easily to mind while playing. Don’t let this intimidate your or your piano student at home. This is not hard to do, it just takes a little creativity and planning. Here are three creative memory techniques that work, even for young children.

1. Organizing the material for easier storage and retrieval.

Since music theory can all be seen on the piano keyboard, visualization is an important tool or organizing information that will be easily accessible. Scales, for example, should be learned on the keyboard without looking at notes on the staff. Mental keyboard pictures of the scales are much easier to store and retrieve than notes on the page. The same is true for memorizing chords. Start with memorizing the keyboard imagery first, then draw the notes out on the staff and play them.

2. Adding meaning to the material through association.

The primary chords of each key can be memorized easily by associating them with acronyms for short ideas which are fun to recall. The primary chords in the key of D are D Major, G Major, and A Major. “Dga, Dga Drum’ is the “beat” is use the remember this. Just come up with ideas that are fun for you and memorizing these will be easy

3. Funneling the material.

Organizing the material you want to remember from General to specific will also make recall easier. For example, memorize the Circle of Thirds. Then memorize the Seven Keyboard Triads, which are made from the Circle of Thirds. Then Memorize the Major and Minor Chords from the 7 Keyboard Triads.

Follow these examples and create more creative ways of your own to memorize the music facts you want to keep at your fingertips. Remember this – you can memorize all the music knowledge you want to with a logical plan to get it done. Even very young children can use the tecnhiques above because they’re so effective.

The Perfect Wedding Flower Decoration

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Orange blossoms, sunflowers, roses and dahlias; violets and
lilies; orchids and tulips: all flowers are beautiful. They are
also a symbol of love. And an inevitable part of all wedding
ceremonies. So inevitable, that many couples go crazy when
having to choose the flower decoration for their wedding party.
Wedding flower decoration is vital for this red-letter day in
everyone’s life. Flower designs can be different and can
translate various meanings to the guests of the wedding party.
Many things can be concluded about the bride and bridegroom’s
future marriage, depending on the choice of their wedding flower
decorations. If your wedding ceremony is getting closer, perhaps
it is time to choose your flower decoration that will make the
celebration unforgettable.

Wedding flower decoration can be of various kinds. You can
choose a large arch of flowers or a centre-piece, or both-
everything is suitable depending on your taste. Use your own
creative imagination and choose the best flower decoration for
the great event. It is important that you decide on flower
arrangement that suits your wedding settings. Choose a color
combination that appeals to you and is in harmony with the
entire setting. The flower decoration can consist of seasonal
and local flowers. You should as specifically as possible decide
on the size, shape and color for the different flower
arrangements. You may easily get some piece of advice from a
magazine: there are large varieties of all kinds of flowers.
Silk flowers and dried flowers can be an opportunity, too.
Remember: your wedding flower decoration is meant to express you
and your personal style, but comply also with your loved one’s
taste. Additional factors should influence your choice: the
season, the time of day for the party, the location atmosphere
and so on. These weather conditions make a difference and you
should have them in mind before deciding strongly on something.
A cunning way to make wedding flower decoration suitable is
color blocking. Color blocking is called the procedure of
choosing a specific color or combination of several colors and
using it as the leading nuance when you create all your wedding
settings. For example, you may choose the classical white, and
put white orchids on the white tablecloths, and prepare your
wedding bouquet with white being the predominant color.

There are several types of flower arrangements that are used
during the ceremony. For more information click Wedding Flower Decoration
BOUQUETS. They are flower decorations for the bride. A wedding
bouquet must be carefully chosen depending on the personal
characteristics of the woman. Its color must stress on her
individuality, and its shape must emphasize on her body
silhouette, giving her the best possible looks. There are many
different wedding bouquets, and their design depends on the
bride’s skin tone, body proportion, facial appearance and
attire.

BOUTONNIERES. These flower decorations are worn by the groom
and his attendance, also by the ushers, and the bride’s and
groom’s fathers. They are made of small flower buds attached on
the left lapel of the jacket.

CORSAGES. They can be worn in pin-on, wrists and hand-held
styles. As a flower decoration they combine a small bloom or
several blooms tied together.

WREATHS. This is a splendid flower decoration that has a round
shape. The rings of flowers are used as centerpieces, headpieces
or door hangers.

CANDELABRA. They are made of flowing greens in the shape of
ribbons. They are put at the base, neck or top of multi-armed
candelabra.

Teaching to Build Your Opt-in List

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

If you are in the business of selling online, then you are in the business of building an opt-in list and remarketing. Many website owners find that collecting opt-in subscribers is extremely expensive and involves running advertising or renting e-mail lists.

These methods can be effective – especially if you happen to sell high-end products with a very limited market size. But regardless of your organization’s size or the cost of your products, finding more cost-effective ways of generating leads is extremely important. For many website owners, providing free information products is an excellent way of improving opt-in subscription ROI.

Teach Them And They Will Come
The single most popular commodity on the Internet is information. People are starving for it. In fact, information is so important to many people that they spend an enormous amount of time educating themselves online so they can stay informed. Many view this form of continuous education as a competitive advantage they have over their peers, and feel that without it, their careers would suffer.

Here’s an example: A CEO schedules a meeting with his technical staff to talk about installing a Voice over IP (VoIP) system in the office. Because he likes to do his homework, the CEO spends an hour or so preparing for the meeting by doing some quick research on the Internet. He searches for “VoIP” on Google, and finds a ton of information about the different types of technologies. With this information he can develop a game plan for his meeting.

The company (and website) that does the best job of educating him about VoIP stands a very good chance of getting an opportunity to bid on the project when it gets approved.

In this case, the website doesn’t just create a lead for the VoIP company. It actually does something more important – it teaches the prospect to value the unique selling points of the company that provided the educational material. And in the case above, it actually influenced how the project was going to be presented to the prospect’s management team.

Later that week, when a competing company calls on the prospect to try to get an appointment, the CEO will be prejudiced against their solution because it does not possess the qualities he has learned to value from the first company.

Understanding this dynamic is crucial to building your opt-in list, and it should go a long way in determining your overall online strategy.

Effective Methods to Teach Online
Depending on your industry, there are a number of ways you can effectively teach online. Following are a few rapid-fire methods we have used in the past that brought great results.

White Papers – Inexpensive to produce and with an established distribution system on the Internet, white papers are a great way to get the word out about your organization’s products. These types of publications are primarily used in more technical industries such as software, hardware, medical, and engineering. A couple of distribution channels are: www.bitpipe.com and www.knowledgestorm.com, but you can also distribute them on your website.

Video Tutorials – An emerging method of teaching, video streaming allows organizations to not only teach a prospect about the industry, but also to demonstrate their products. Currently, video tutorials are a favorite among computer software and hardware manufacturers, but their use is rapidly spreading to other areas such as marketing and healthcare. Video tutorials can be marketed through Pay Per Click (PPC) campaigns on search engines as well as a number of new online video search services (Google has recently released a service here: http://video.google.com/).

EBooks – Because they are relatively inexpensive to produce, eBooks are a favorite form of lead generation for those website owners who have the talent or resources to write long-form text. Ebooks are generally viewed as more educational than white papers, and so may be viewed as a more valuable resource to some people. Ebooks do not need to be hundreds of pages long. In fact, most eBooks are between 50 and 100 pages, and can be promoted through dozens of online directories and distribution portals.

Web-based Tutorials – The most flexible method of delivering online content is on your website itself. Using this method, you create password-protected areas that require surfers to register in order to access your information product. The primary benefit of web-based content delivery is that the content can be easily updated at any time. Web-based tutorials are ideal for industries and topics that change often, or where the product itself is delivered via the website. Web-based tutorials can be promoted on your website, through PPC ads, and via your corporate newsletter.

If you are in the business of selling products or services online, then it could actually be said that you are also in the business of educating your market. When it comes to your industry, you are the expert. Your prospects are the students, and they have a vested interest in understanding as much as they can about how they can use your products and services to improve their businesses.

The companies that build their opt-in lists fastest are usually the ones that do the best job of educating their prospects about their industry. By following this method, you gain a valuable database of leads, and the prospect base learns everything they need to know to be able to purchase your products confidently.

Movie Downloads

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

A feature movie affords a venue to relax by transporting an individual from the bitter world of reality to a realm of fantasy where anxieties and worries take a back seat.

Movies have gained popularity worldwide and have become a mega business. Hollywood - the hub of the US film industry - has churned out some of the most memorable movies of all time and is still producing films that catch the imagination of a global community. A movie can be viewed in a traditional theater, on television or by renting a DVD.

These days, computers have increased options for movie lovers. Hundreds of movies produced in Hollywood and in major film industries are available on the internet. To access these films online, simple procedures have to be followed. They involve a process that in technical terms is referred to as “”movie downloading.”"

Downloading films from a computer is possible with the help of software programs that are specifically created for this purpose. More and more people are using the option of downloading films from the internet onto their computers.

One thing to remember when looking for “movie” downloads” is that, on the Internet, the word “movie” refers to not just to a feature movie, but any moving or animated computer file. It can refer to a short Internet television piece, a news report, even a commercial or just a whimsical cartoon for a quick laugh. So if you are looking for a feature movie, be sure to specify the word “feature” or at least the title of the film you are looking for.

Curing Floating Scale Problems In Your Hot Tub

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Scale floating in your hot tub can be a frustrating problem to solve. Scale builds in the pipes and then slowly breaks apart and comes out your jets. Symptoms are typically small and large chunks of square beige colored particles floating in your hot tub. Hot tub filters catch some of the scale but because much of it is large it doesn’t make it in the filters. The larger scale pieces sink back into the jets only to return when you next run the hot tub jets. Scale buildup is usually due to periods of high PH levels in your hot tub. Scale can also appear if you miss the once per week application of a scale defense spa chemical. Draining your hot tub may reduce the scale but usually hot tub owners are disappointed when the scale returns after they refill the hot tub.

How to get rid of scale floating in your hot tub?

The key to reducing the floating scale in your hot tub is to stop relying on the hot tub to filter the scale. It is also necessary to begin a regular application of a spa chemical scale protector or scale defense. This will prevent additional buildup of new scale while you get rid of the old scale floating in your hot tub. Now remember I said the scale sinks down to the floor and comes back out when you run the jets. This is to your advantage because you can make the scale come up to the top, and filter it out with a swimming pool net. Spend 30 minutes a week running the jets on high for 15 seconds. Then kill the jets and run the net across the top of the hot tub water. Shake out your net with each sweep. Then after a few passes run the jets and re sweep the scale out of your hot tub. You’ll notice an immediate improvement in the level of scale floating in the hot tub. The key here is to do this many times to catch the scale before it can fall back into your jets. Rinse out your filters more often as well so you can get the smaller scale particles out of your hot tub.

There is a spa chemical called System Flush that you use just before training your tub. I imagine it is a fairly harsh spa chemical that breaks scale from the inside of the spa jets. You then must flush out the chemical. This may take a few time draining and filling with rescreening in between. The key as well is to keep PH in the proper range so scale doesn’t continue to build.

The ins and outs of banner networking

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Banner networking is merely an exchange of links on
participating sites. You post a banner on your site whilst
others post yours on theirs. The agency will provide you with a
banner ad together with the accompanying html for display on
your site in exchange for reciprocal treatment or commission.

Banner networking is of interest to websites, especially in
their website promotion efforts as it helps to expose their
products and services to a varied audience with minimal effort.

As a website there are two ways to get involved in a banner
network - by exchanging with other partners or by submitting
your banners to a network by display by affiliates on their
sites.

You can join a banner network with great ease. You only have to
go to network and then apply to be a member. You supply the
banners and then the accompanying text together with a fee and
then you are through. From this point, affiliates who have
subscription to that program will go for your banners and then
display them on their sites where visitors will click on them to
reach your site.

Banner exchanges worth looking into include:

123Banners - http://www.123banners.com 1800Banners -
http://www.1800banners.com BannerSwap.com -
http://www.bannerswap.com Bpath - http://www.bpath.com
Click4Click - http://www.click4click.com Free-Banners.com -
http://www.free-banners.com/ Link Buddies -
http://www.linkbuddies.com NEObanners -
http://www.neobanners.com/ Relmax Flash Banner Exchange -
http://www.rfbe.com/ That’sMySite.com -
http://www.thatsmysite.com/ etc.

The biggest advantage of this kind of network is the high
exposure your site gains. Since most of these affiliates are
small websites without heavy budgets in search engine placement,
they tend to invest their promotion in other non traditional
ways that big websites don’t. As such you are able to reach
areas where you would not normally go as a big site with
considerable budget.

There is however a down side. You lose control over who should
place your banner and where it will de displayed. If your banner
is placed at objectionable sites with bad content, your website
reputation suffers and thus, you can lose credibility. This
situation can come about if either the exchange programs places
the banner arbitrarily on the members sites or the members
themselves chose where to place them.

Another disadvantage is the annoyance that can result from the
display of your banner. If the website displaying your ad is not
complementing your website theme, then the banner will not be
wanted on the page and thus pose some nuisance which can affect
the popularity of your site.

For the above reasons, it is a good thing to carefully assess a
network before you join. You can look for one that allows you to
approve your network partners manually so that you can be able
to asses the quality and relevance of their websites before you
allow them to place your banners on their websites.

Banner networking boosts traffic by exposing your site to a wide
range of website’s audience. It must however be tackled with
great care so that your banner does not end up at a site with a
bad reputation.

Good luck with your website, Reginald
