Stylish Comfort: Modern Sofa Trends

Filed under: Home Improvement Center — admin @ 9:25 pm

The modern sofa has two things in mind: the ultimate in style,
and the ultimate in comfort. Gone are the rock-hard sofas of
yesteryear: good looking, but torture to sit on. Today, modern
sofa trends present a new and evolved sofa. A sofa design that
seeks the best in terms of upholstery material, color, and
design, but is also so comfortable to sit on, it doubles as a
bed!

Modern sofa trends today produce sofas that are bulky and comfy.
The color range is essentially neutral. Neutral colors are the
essence of a modern home, which aims to be simple, sleek, and
stylish. Bold and bright color is introduced with throw
cushions. Never commit yourself to a particular sofa color,
unless you can afford to have your sofa upholstered or replaced
every couple of years. Color in home design is fickle. If you
want to sustain a contemporary look, you’d be better off
choosing a neutral color sofa in cream, taupe, coffee, camel,
white or black.

In choosing your modern sofa, remember that modern day design is
about global influences and the mixing and matching of fabrics.
You may like to consider a sofa that combines a leather and
fabric upholstery design. If you choose all leather or all
fabric then you can be as creative as you like with color
accessories. Choose throw cushions and throw rugs to match your
window dressing. Add fresh flowers your coffee table to match
the color of your cushions.

Do keep in mind that contemporary trends keep changing, and
while changes are not dramatic, it is always best to start with
a neutral piece of furniture and accessorize according to your
mood and global trends. Contemporary sofa trends today tell us
to choose a neutral and comfortable sofa and splash it with
color.

Bucks: A Beaten Team Even Before Last Night

Filed under: School of Sports — admin @ 8:50 pm

It seems the Milwaukee Bucks were in complete disaray even before taking the court lst night in Detroit and getting run out of the arens. Lot’s of unhappy Bucks, namely Jamaal Magloire and rookie Andrew Bogut. Neither was too happy with their role this year

“My biggest disappointment is I wish I was out there contributing and helping this team win,” said Magloire, who had eight points and four rebounds in 23 minutes on Wednesday. “Coach is going to make the decisions, and I’m just going to do what he asks of me.

As expected, Magloire will be the one leaving town, and quite a few teams should be quite interested even though he is due over $8 next year. The Canadian nataive hopes to land in his hometown, Toronto, as a Raptor for the 2006-07 campaign.

Magloire was acquired from New Orleans to help Bogut from being pushed around inside and started all 82 games for the Bucks. Bogut was moved to power forward while Magloire played the center position.

Bogut, the #1 overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, was also not pleased by his reduced role this season. He wanted to be involved more in the offense, rather than just setting screens for the Bucks shooters, Michael Redd and Bobby Simmons and getting garbage points on the inside off rebounds.

Many observers expect the Bucks to build the team around him and the youngster will have to show some patience ask LeBron James, atleast Bogut’s team got to the post-season in his rookie year, King James just now got there in his 3rd year in the league.

But, all was not a wash for Bogut, as he was named to the All-NBA rookie team as he led all rookies in rebounds (7.0), field goal percentage (.533) and blocks (.83), while adding 9.4 points and 2.3 assists in 28.6 minutes per game. Bogut finished 5th in the entire NBA in field goal percentage, connecting on 323 of 606 attempts.

It is also not a certaintly that coach Terry Stotts will return in 2006-07, as the Bucks may be looking for a coach that is more willing to run the offense through their young superstar in the making.

6 Simple Ways Writing Articles Will Improve Your Link Popularity and Increase Visitors to Your Web S

Filed under: Popular Links — admin @ 8:49 pm

Article writing and distribution creates free one way incoming
links back to your web site. Link building in this manner
increases your web sites exposure, visitors and you overall
search engine rankings. By using the following techniques you
can dramatically improve your web site traffic in a very short
period of time.

1. Create Viral Content For Your Web Site - Add your own
resource box/byline to your articles and post them on your web
site. You could allow your visitors to publish the articles on
their web site if they also include your resource box and keep
your hyperlink active. This will spread your link around the
internet like a virus and increase your link popularity fast.

2. Submit your articles to free content web sites for other
webmasters to reprint for publishing. When you include your
resource box at the end of the article with your website URL you
will not only get free advertising but you will get a link back
to your site. This will increase your link popularity and cause
your site to rank higher in the search engines.

3. Combine your articles into a free e-book. You can place your
business ad and hyperlinks back to your site in the e-book.
E-book creating software is inexpensive and easy to use. By
giving your e-book away to visitors and allowing them to link to
your site to give it away to their visitors will multiply your
web site traffic, exposure and link popularity.

4. Create an article directory on your web site. People will
visit your web site to get the free information. By allowing
them to reprint your articles with the stipulation that they
keep the resource box and hyperlink active you will increase
your link popularity. Also allow your visitors to place a link
on their web site that links back to your article directory. By
providing your free “instant article directory” to their
visitors you will increase your web site’s exposure and receive
a percentage of their visitors as well.

5. Offer other web sites, that are relevant to your own, free
content articles about your area of expertise to post on their
web site. Include your link on all of your content. Your article
should be related to your web site because it will bring you
visitors that are interested in your product or service.

6. Use an article distribution service that distributes
articles to thousands of web sites, newsletters and ezines at
one time. Your article will be published on dozens of web sites
almost immediately. I used this technique with an article
distribution service called thephantomwriters.com and got
literally thousands of links from only four articles. Distribute
your articles several times and you will increase your exposure.
Change your article’s title and redistribute it several times
more to maximize your article’s potential.

As you can clearly see, writing and distributing articles can
have a profound affect on your web site’s exposure. There is
absolutely no better or faster way to increase your web site’s
exposure, link popularity and search engine rankings.

10 Unique Gift Ideas for Your Bridesmaids

Filed under: Hall Of Relationships — admin @ 6:28 pm

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about bridesmaids
gifts, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative
article takes a closer look at things you need to know about
bridesmaids gifts.

It is customary to honor your bridesmaids for their
participation in your wedding with a gift of appreciation.
Traditional gifts include a piece of jewelry such as earrings or
a necklace that complements their bridesmaids dress and can be
worn on the wedding day but many bridesmaids will truly
appreciate a more unique gift idea. With careful consideration
you may be able to give your bridesmaids gifts that show your
appreciation for their assistance and also demonstrate that you
understand their personality as well.

One unique gift ideas for your bridesmaids is an evening bag to
be used as an accessory on the wedding day. This gift can be a
lovely gesture and will serve the purpose of keeping the
accessories of the bridesmaids uniform and will free your
bridesmaid from the burden of searching for an evening bag that
matches the dress. In this case you may choose to give the
bridesmaids their gifts early in the wedding planning so that
they don’t purchase a bag specifically for the occasion of your
wedding.

A photo album complete with a picture of you and the bridesmaid
or the entire wedding party can be another unique gift idea for
the bridesmaids. You could purchase photo albums with the date
of your wedding engraved on the front cover and start the photo
album with a picture of you and the bridesmaid. This is a
wonderful gift idea because the bridesmaid can place her photos
from the wedding day in the album and will always have a
precious souvenir from your wedding day.

Gift certificates to a spa or a salon also make unique gift
ideas for your bridesmaids. Your bridesmaids most likely spent a
great deal of time and energy in helping you to plan your
wedding. The week prior to your wedding was also probably
especially hectic with a great deal of last minute details to
attend to and errands to run. While you will have your honeymoon
to relax and renew your energy your bridesmaids do not have this
luxury so by honoring them by presenting them with a gift
certificate to a spa or salon you are giving them the gift or
being pampered and the gift of relaxation.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point,
don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time
you finish.

A few more unique gift ideas for your bridesmaids’ gifts include
handcrafted or homemade gifts. For example you could put
together a CD of some of your bridesmaids’ favorite songs. You
could make the CDs different for each bridesmaid and include a
photo of the two of you on the cover and include a heartfelt
poem on the inside of the CD cover. You could also create a
scrapbook for each of your bridesmaids. You could either make
the scrapbook a memory of your entire friendship together and
include photos and other items from your various adventures
throughout the years or if you plan ahead and take many photos
documenting your wedding preparations, you could create
scrapbooks as a remembrance of the wedding planning that you
shared.

Personalized cosmetics bags can also be used as unique
bridesmaids gifts. You could purchase attractive cosmetic bags
and have them embroidered with your bridesmaids’ initials and
the date of your wedding. Another nice touch with this gift is
to include a few items such as lipstick or nail polish that
complement each of your bridesmaids’ style and complexion.

Another unique gift idea for a bride to give to her bridesmaids
is a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Assisting in your
wedding preparations was probably extremely stressful and time
consuming for the bridesmaids and they certainly deserve a night
on the town and the opportunity to not have to cook for a night.
This simple gift lets your bridesmaids know that you appreciate
their efforts and that you want to thank them for all that they
have done to support you.

Unique gift ideas for the bridesmaids can also stem from the
wedding theme. For example if you are having a beach themed
wedding you might want to give your bridesmaids a gift of a tote
bag, a beach towel and a novel to enjoy on the beach. This
unique gift idea ensures that your bridesmaids will remember
your wedding fondly the next time they are at the beach.

Traditional bridesmaid’s gifts such as jewelry and jewelry boxes
are always welcomed but if you have a large group of friends and
most of them will be bridesmaids several more times as more of
your friends get married it might be nice to give your
bridesmaids a gift that is unique. Unique gift ideas convey your
message of appreciation but also let the bridesmaids know that
you put a great deal of effort into choosing their gift.

Those who only know one or two facts about bridesmaids gifts can
be confused by misleading information. The best way to help
those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths
you’re learning here.

Designer Handbags - SHould We Trust The Sales Assistants?

Filed under: Gender Issues Info — admin @ 5:44 pm

Readers of one of my previoius articles might well think that
the answer to this question will be a categorical NO, based on
my “Designer Handbags — Can Men Buy Them” article.

In it I described the experience I recently had in an LV store
where the staff were not exacxtly falling over themselves to
serve me, a mere male in a handbag store.

But my answer would have to be a carefully restrained — Maybe!

Now the direct, and indirect, knowledge that I use for the
answer to this question is pulled purely from experiences and
tales recounted by others involving Louis Vuitton stores. I
cannot say for certain whether or not it applies to other
designer labels — although I strongly suspect it will do!

Now at one time, store managers and assistants were held in the
same revered light that doctors enjoyed. What they said or
reported was seen as gospel, never to be questioned, let alone
doubted.

But doctors are only human, bless ‘em. They, like us, make
mistakes and errors in judgement. (With the hours some of them
have to work I’m not in the least little bit surprised!)

In the olden days, when a doctor advised that little Johny was
suffering nothing more than a slight fever and should be fed
aspirin every fours hours until he perked up, no thought of
questioning the diagnosis would occur to mom and dad — even
though they could see little Johny’s leg was bent forwards 90
degrees at the knee and he kept fainting every time someone
coughed near it!

It used to be like that in the stores as well.

“Good Morning Modom, may I help you?”

“Yes please, may I see the new Hyanuki Messenger Bag please?”

“Oh, I’m so sorry Modom, that bag hasn’t been released yet!
Well, it certainly wasn’t before I went on my holiday, anyway.”

“Erm, isn’t it the one on the shelves over there? The stack of
three of them with the sign on the front saying ‘Hyanuki
Messnger Bag’?”

“No Modom, certainly not! It can’t be or else I would have been
told about it!”

Now, staff in the LV stores are never allowed to give out
written authenticity statements for any bags! Any at all.

If you like — test me on this!

Go into one of their stores and buy a bag there and then. As
soon as you’ve been handed your receipt, try asking for a note
from the sales assistant or manager, affirming the fact that
this bag is an authentic item!

They’ll politely decline! (They’ll also probably look at you as
though you’re totally bonkers, but don’t worry about that, there
are plenty more stores to go and buy from!)

Not because they don’t doubt the authenticty — but because they
aren’t allowed to by company rules.

I used to think that this was because they would never be sure
that the letter or note of authenticity wouldn’t then be copied
or used to give a fake bag an incorrect “value”, make it appear
genuine and authentic.

Now, I’m sure that a large element of that reason still remains.
However, I think it is also tempered by another reason, one
which should concern anyone seeking an accurrate assesment of
their bags.

I believe that they refuse to allow this valuation to be
recorded in any form in case it is wrong. Because they expect it
to be wrong on occassion.

Too tall an idea to be believeable?

Well, how about if I told you about a lady I know who had a
hilarious experience in an LV store.

She was the lucky owner of a Gold Suhali bag. Now, these are
rare, seriously rare. It’s the type of bag that only the celebs
get to own because of A) Price and B) Exclusivity! I cannot
remember where she had got hers from — but I do know it was
without a doubt authentic!

She went into an LV store and proceeded to look around. She did
notice what seemed to be a frosty reception from the sales
assistants but assumed it was directed somewhere else. Imagine
her surprise when she discovered it was aimed at her. Both of
the sales assistants in the store thought she was a fugly lover
– because they believed the Gold Suhali was a fake! Not only
didn’t they know that one had been released, they didn’t even
know they’d be made in the first place!

And before you leap from your seat in defence of the beleagured
sales assistants with a shout of “Well, that ’s not strange if
the bag is so rare!” let me temper this by saying that the bag
was rare in the same way as the Mona Lisa is rare. Rare — but
everyone knows about it!

With the increase in the number of bags in a range and the
number of ranges as well, it will always be an ever expanding
job for LV and other designer labels to ensure all their staff
are up to speed on all the bags available and their particular
differences.

However much training they receive - they’ll always be behind
the times on one or two ranges or items at least. No amount of
store training will be able to overcome the simple dynamics of
time available for training v number of staff requiring training
v people available to do training divided by time available
across all the people required to be involved in the training.

Sadly, no one knows all the answers.

Now, if you’re lucky enough to find a store assistant with whom
you can strike up a “rapport” then you should be able to trust
their answers more than most. If they don’t know the real
answer, it’s in their best interests to find out for you.

But should you trust an SA without question?

No, I don’t think so. You should temper their answer with
information that you glean from other sources as well, such as
forums, chat groups of like minded designer lovers and from
press and magazine articles.

Balance these sources of answers together — and you’ll always
have the best answer possible — and not a potential bad guess!

Entrepreneur and Mom

Filed under: New Age Tips + More — admin @ 3:43 pm

When I was 12 years old, I had surgery with complications. I was told there was a chance I would not be able to have children. Growing up I could not imagine my life without children and worried about it often. When I got married close to my 21st birthday, my husband and I hoped that we would be lucky enough to have children. Luckily, I found out I was pregnant almost a year later. However, soon after the great news, I got very sick. I was working full time at a corporate travel agency and I could not work. My doctor told me that I had to take care of myself or I would be at risk to lose my baby. My employer got very nasty with me and was not compassionate about my sickness. I almost lost my job, but my doctor was able to get me medical leave from the family leave act. The experience was horrible. I vowed to never have to choose between my career and the health of my baby. I began to look for ways to work from home. I tried Mary Kay Cosmetics but I was terrible at it. It didn’t feel comfortable and I really had nothing to make me want to be successful.

When my son Dillon was born in February 1997, it was one of the best days of my life. I quit my job and tried to stay home full time. I was able to stay home until Dillon was three months old. Then I went back part time at a travel agency. I hated leaving him even for the few hours I had to. So I decided to start my own travel agency from my home. I knew the travel business well enough to be on my own, but I did not know very much about being a home business owner. For the next two years, I had to learn so much about running a home business. I got help from other work at home moms. I met them online and it was so helpful.

I created a website and began actively advertising for business. I read anything I could on having a home business. I learned as much as I could about the internet. I began brainstorming on how I could expand my business. I decided to specialize in family vacations since I had a growing family. My second child, Travis was born January 1999. I began to learn how to balance having a family and a business. I worked whenever I could. Many nights I work late at night when my children are sleeping. My husband is very supportive.

I finally started becoming successful and was gaining more customers each day. I started taking on independent agents and helping them start their own agencies. I let them work with my agency because I had already paid what it took to start the agency. I trained them and began building my business by helping others get into the industry. I took a small percentage of their commissions for running the agency. It slowly turned into a full fledge training program with a handbook and a website dedicated to my agents. I also created a website for people who wanted to join the agency. I marketed to find those who would be interested. The agency has continued to grow as the word has spread. What I offer people interested in the travel industry is unique since I accept those without prior experience and train them for free.

I have been interviewed by several magazines and featured in books on home businesses. Currently I have over 200 independent agents working with my agency. Our sales have skyrocketed. In 2002, we did $20,000 in sales for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. In 2003, we did $147,000 in sales. We are growing in so many ways. I am still very active in the agency. I still answer my emails myself and strive to personally know all my agents. I do not have anyone helping me at my home office. I do have my very first agent as well as many who have been with me for years helping out. I handle all the bookkeeping, shipping, daily business issues, advertising, website maintenance, and many other of the important operations needed to run this business. It has become a part of me.

My goal is to have 300 agents by the time I am 30. I hope to be able to get some help handling day-to-day operations. I would also like to continue to grow to become more recognized in the travel industry. I want to help as many people as I can who want to start their own home based travel agency. I want to continue building my business and each year find something new that I can do to be more successful at this business.

I wrote my own ebook on starting a home travel agency. This offered information to those interested and helped spread the word about my agency’s program. Each year we grow more and more. I have written two other ebooks since my first one. One is on juggling a home business and family. The other is on marketing a home business on a small amount of funds. I am just now beginning to have more money available for advertising. What I have done to date has been still on a limited budget. I am just now beginning to spend more money on advertising.

My family has been very supportive. My boys are now 5 and 7 years old and they try to help me out as much as possible. We go on family vacations and I can use it to help my business. I have been able to save on childcare from not having to work outside the home. I was able to be with my children as they have been growing up. I didn’t miss their first words or steps. I also have been teaching them that anything is possible. I want them to know that if they have the drive to do something, they can do it. Every day that I got discouraged, I would think of the fact that if I did not succeed, I would have to go back to work full time and put my children into daycare.

My 5 year old was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last May. This was a hard adjustment for our family. He needed me more than ever. I was able to be there and everyone involved in my agency understood. I was able to take the time I needed to stay with him in the hospital and learn how to handle his diabetes. My agents pulled together and helped me out. I can’t imagine how things would have been if I had a full time job outside the home. I was able to take care of my child without worry.

I feel very fortunate. I had a dream and I was able to make it come true. I also have something I can call my own. I love being a mom. I also love being an entrepreneur. It is very satisfying looking at what I have accomplished in 6 years. I know the possibilities are endless. I know as long as I continue to work hard and be creative in growing my business, I will continue to be successful. I am now able to help others who want to start a home business. I wrote three e-books and I get to write articles to help others. 6 years ago I would have never imagined this would be my life. It just proves that anything is possible if you really want it bad enough.

Reading in a Tree

Filed under: Publishing — admin @ 1:03 pm

Today is like many of the summer days I spent at my
grandparents’ house in Indiana–except I am writing, instead of
reading and I am sitting in a chair on my deck, instead of on a
branch in a tree growing in front of my grandparents’ house. But
the wind is blowing gently under the umbrella, just like it blew
through the leaves so many years ago.

I don’t remember how many hours I spent in that tree.

It has been a long time since I felt the wind blow through its
leaves. My grandparents sold the house and moved off of the farm
the year that I started college. I probably did not climb the
tree for the last few years that my grandparents lived there.

I was not a tomboy. In fact, that tree is the only one that I
have ever climbed (unless you count the one I tried to climb and
got stuck in). It was the perfect tree for a girlie girl to
climb. There was one branch that grew straight out from the
tree. If I reached up high above my head, I could grasp the
branch with both hands and hoist myself up to a much thicker
extension of the trunk that grew at about shoulder height.
Holding the branch, I “walked” up the trunk until I could swing
around and sit in the saddle created by the trunk and the
branch. I reached for another branch above my head to pull
myself to my feet. An even higher branch allowed me to pull
myself to a sitting position on the branch that I had first used
to pull myself into the tree. The tree had so many perfectly
positioned branches that I could climb a little bit higher in
the same fashion, but I usually didn’t.

I was not actually interested in climbing the tree. I did not
climb for the sake of climbing, but because I wanted to sit on
the one branch that was thick enough to be comfortable, lean
against the smooth bark of the trunk, and feel the gentle breeze
blow through the leaves and through my hair. I usually had a
book in hand, too, so climbing higher than my branch was
impractical.

I am not sure why, but I never seemed to go to my grandparents’
house prepared. I always seemed to be searching for something to
read. My grandmother loved decorating. She filled scrapbooks
with magazine clippings archiving the year’s worth of current
home fashions. Had she belonged to my generation, she would
probably be a marketing expert. The tools of her passion,
women’s magazines, fueled my passion. She saved years of back
issues of magazines and many of them published one or two
fictional pieces per issue.

I remember one about a girl who climbed trees and another about
a girl names Lissa (spelled with 2 Ss). Actually, that may have
been the same short story. They were all cheesy romances, but
the summer breeze blowing through my tree seemed to set the mood
and allowed me to slip into fiction-induced trances that the
words alone could not have done.

It was a time when things seemed to stand still. By the time I
reached high school, I had other things to do than spend weeks
at a time with my grandparents reading in a tree. By the time I
started college, my grandparents sold the house, but when I was
an all-too-shy-pre-adolescent, that tree filled a real need.
Ironically, my memory of that tree and the time I spent sitting
amongst its leaves is clearer than any single memory from high
school or college.

I felt like I belonged. I felt free to be myself–even though I
didn’t know who that was. At home, I was reminded — especially
during the long days of summer–that I did not have many
friends. I was painfully shy and somehow, I always felt inferior
to other kids my age. That time before high school was also the
only time in my life that I was free to read voraciously. The
summer before I started 8th grade, I read titles including
Wuthering Heights, The Black Rose, and Gone with the Wind, among
others. Everything changed after I started high school. First,
higher education took over and dictated my reading (probably for
the better), then marriage and family decimated the time I could
spend reading.

I’ve never lost the ability to slide into a trance-like state.
This is perhaps the biggest reason that I cannot be the sort who
leaves a book on the bedside table and reads for an hour before
bed. If a book captivates my attention, I read cover to cover,
stopping only to eat (sometimes) and sleep (if I can no longer
keep my eyes open). For a long time, it meant that I only read
when we went on vacation.

We left on one family vacation the day after the fifth Harry
Potter book was released. I’ve read each and every book in the
series to my sons more than once. Since we were on vacation, we
could only read in short bursts. We finally reached the point in
the book where I couldn’t disengage myself. I kept reading after
I tucked my boys into bed. At 1:00 a.m., my husband finally
insisted that I turn the light off. The only place I could turn
on a light without disturbing anyone was in the bathroom, so I
sat on the cold bathroom floor until 3:00 in the morning so that
I could finish the book.

* * *

I drove past my grandparents’ old house recently. The tree is
still there, but my branch has been cut off. At first I was sad.
That branch was there for me when I needed it. But nothing stays
the same. The branch was only an extension of the trunk.

I have been able to recapture the essence of those moments spent
in my tree in very different places and times. Most recently,
our trips to Florida beaches have rekindled memories. I sit
under a beach umbrella — often with a book — with the Gulf
breeze blowing a bit of nostalgia in off of the water. I watch
my sons play with an abandon that only belongs to childhood, and
I think about the girl who used to read in a tree.
