Discerning Diamonds

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Cut, colour, clarity and carat are used to determine a great diamond. Though you don’t need to find the most expensive diamond to find the one whose beauty speaks to you.

Cut refers to the angles and proportions that a skilled craftsman creates to turn a rough stone into a polished diamond. It also refers to the shape of the diamond.

Diamonds are graded on a colour scale established by the Gemological Institute of America, ranging from D (colorless) to Z. Red is one of the rarest, and most desirable colours for diamonds.

Carat is a measure of weight, not size. One carat is 200 milligrams. The word carat comes from the word carob. Carob seeds, used by ancient civilizations for measurement, are extremely similar in weight and 1 carob used to equal 1 carat.

Clarity is possibly the most important of the factors affecting the quality and price of any diamond. Clarity literally means “clearness” and refers to the diamond’s ability to allow the free passage of light without obstruction or absorption. Any inclusions, cleavages, cracks, or other natural features inside or defects on the surface will stop light from passing through the stone.

De Beers advertising over the last century has established a “tradition” that a woman should receive a diamond ring as an engagement symbol. De Beers have extended the diamond engagement ring “tradition”, by brainwashing us to believe that a diamond eternity ring should also be a tradition on the first wedding anniversary, or the birth of a first child.

Whatever you decide to buy and for whatever the reason that you decide to buy it, a diamond can represent one of life’s deepest emotional investments. It may eventually be passed down to your children and your grandchildren, not because of what it originally cost but because of what it means.

Are you thinking of Buying a LCD TV? Then you should read th

The LCD television is great in small places

The LCD television will fit where larger TVs can not. The term LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Diode. If you want a flat panel TV, you can choose either a LCD TV or plasma TV. It is in the electronics that the LCD differs from the plasma TV.

How does the LCD make a picture?

LCD TVs are available in a few variations. The first is the conventional LCD panel, but isn’t only used in televisions. LCDs are used in many other electronic technologies like microwaves, digital clocks, calculators, and stereos. In the television, the LCD comes in the design called Twisted Nematic (TM). It is a naturally twisted crystalline structure that reacts to electric currents in predictable manners. The currents cause it to untwist to different degrees based on the voltage given. These TN crystals are stuck between panes of polarized glass and the untwisting allows different amounts of light to pass through.

Most agree that if you are purchasing a flat television panel smaller than 37”, you should buy a LCD TV. Larger LCD panels tend to not be as crisp. You will find that the plasma TV is better, if bigger. There are two exceptions if the room is very bright, the LCD is superior and LCD also is more resistant to burn in from sources like computers and TV video game consoles. LCD can burn out but occur much less than earlier models. Many models are now High Definition (HDTV) capable as well.

The life-span of the LCD is tremendous as well and outlasts your old CRT TV. This makes it a great investment and valuable in your house.

Baby Boomers - Do You Blog? Learn What Your Grandchildren Already Know!

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

It is a fact that baby boomers have grandchildren. Some of you may have lots of grandchildren. Now is the time to keep connected. A blog is an easy, low-tech way to stay in touch.

I am not going to define blogs, or give you a long history on blogging. It is a technology that has been available for years, but now it’s the hip thing to do.

If you have ever thought of having a travel journal or cooking lessons for your family, this is the way to go.

Doesn’t it seem that the grandkids are far more advanced in technology? They have a language of their own, and they rarely share. Often, you will find kids on a computer, cell phone or mp3 player. Catching their attention is difficult and you want to be able to communicate with them.

What can we do to keep up? If you use email to replace snail mail then you are on the right track. Have you heard of blogging?? Don’t be afraid, it is easy to start one.

What would be some reasons to get a blog?

  • The whole family can visit a blog, anytime. The pages never go away, so information is not lost.

  • Blogs are interactive. When you post to your blog, others can comment about that post.

  • Blogs allow photos. Say you want to write about–your tomato plants. You can talk about how they have grown, how many tomatoes you have this year and then snap a photo with your digital camera and post that also.

  • Blogs have voice recording capability. You can set up your blog to have short conversations recorded. What would it be like to read a book into the phone, and that recording would be posted for all the grandchildren.

You can’t do all that easily with email. It may sound too technical, but baby boomers will find it’s as easy as setting up a new email account.

Google has it all. You’ve heard of Google, it’s a household verb now. We don’t do a search on line anymore, we Google it.

Google has a service called Blogger. This page has all the information to get you started. http://www.blogger.com/start

Oh, and the best part… It’s all free!!

You could be the coolest Grandparents on the block.

Take the plunge boomers; it’s easy and painless.

Super Powers

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

It is fun to watch movies of those with super powers. It sparks the imagination to watch their feats of great strength, lightening speed and great leaping ability. We can escape for a while from our dull routines, perplexing problems, and humiliating weaknesses. It seems that they have every ability that we don’t.

Did it ever occur to you that you have super powers too? No one has supernatural powers of course, but we all have special abilities that the majority don’t. The trick is to find an occupation where we can use our strengths and not have to rely on our weaknesses.

Everyone is unique. The Creator gave each of us the exact amount of strengths and weaknesses to accomplish our purpose. Our abilities and disabilities help us determine where we belong and how to find our niche. The ones who make it big in life are not extra ordinary people, they have discovered where they fit in life and took advantage of it. The rest of us may search for a lifetime and never find our ultimate occupation. We often get stuck, making just enough that we can’t afford to start over at the bottom in something else.

You can’t leap over tall buildings with a single bound, but your mind has the capacity to bypass obstacles to your success or move them out of the way. Physical strength is great for health but you can accomplish more with an alert mind. Mankind cannot fly like a bird, but we have the ingenuity to build airplanes that can. We can’t run like a gazelle, but we can build vehicles that outperform them.

We can’t instantaneously teleport our bodies to another location but we can instantly envision places where we want to be. We have to see it in our mind before we can do it. Everyone can picture what they want to become. It is just a matter of setting goals, making plans to go from where we are, to where we want to be. Then we have to stick to the plans.

We don’t need supernatural physical powers. We have minds more powerful than any computer. We just need to develop them. They say in the computer business, “Garbage in garbage out.” The same goes for our minds. If we dwell on doubts and fears of failure, that’s what we will become. The Bible says that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. It is imperative that we focus
on being successful and refuse to think about failure.

If we fill our minds with cheap novels and stories about unsavory characters, we won’t go very far up the ladder. We become what we think about. Computers need to be programmed, so do our minds. We not only need a good formal education, we must keep up with the latest developments in our field, or we will soon be out of date. We are living in the age of information that bombards us
with knowledge. We can’t digest all of it, but we must filter out what applies to us. We can’t remember all of it, but we should file where we can find, what is important to us and make practical use of it.

Many suffer with stress. We have the power to get around that problem. One of my coworkers once said, “The boss thought he was chewing me out, but he wasn’t, because I didn’t take it that way.” Whether it is stress or not depends on how we take it.

How we look at life depends on our attitude. Our attitude determines our altitude. Whether we are bored, happy, miserable, or thrilled depends on how we perceive it. Happiness is not determined by wealth or circumstances. Millionaires sometimes are so dejected that they kill themselves. You decide to look at the bright side. You can learn not to permit negative things to dampen your spirit

I once worked as a telecommunications technician, checking out and repairing old equipment installed in new Police cars. I was stumped often and it sometimes seemed to take forever to get a car ready to go. It got to me at first, but I finally came to the conclusion that it was the out dated equipment that was having a bad day, not me. It wasn’t my fault that it was worn out. We shouldn’t take it personally that our work is difficult. It comes with the job.

It would be nice to have supernatural powers, but until we get new bodies in the next world, we will have to make do with well developed and fine-tuned minds. If we did have supernatural powers, we would have supernatural problems. We should be thankful that we have an easier life than those in the past who didn’t have the modern tools that we do.

Reality TV Bytes

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Remember when…we watched TV shows with real actors and real script in an attempt to escape reality. Nowadays, our TV listings are becoming more inundated with staged “reality-based” programs. Why has this type of programming reached such epidemic proportions? What are viewers getting out of them? Where are producers going with it and when will it end?

Actually, reality television is not really about reality. According to Dr. William Beard, professor of film and media studies, University of Alberta, “realism is the most misused word in the lexicon of film. Video realism is a store security camera, yet nobody wants to watch that.” He explains that, what ‘reality’ TV offers is an illusion of reality with the boring parts edited out. The production of a finished product such as Survivor, basically takes all the same equipment, apparatus and manpower to create a movie. One hour televised equals 100 hours of filming and editing to fit producers story line. This is NOT reality! The people you see are ‘real’ people, not actors.

Not only are these shows plentiful, but the record audiences are proof positive that this trend is unquestionable. Imagine 2.5 million viewers in Canada alone watching the recent episode of Survivor. Those numbers out-perform the NHL playoffs!

Most of us are familiar with one or more of the reality series, such as Canadian Idol, Big Brother, Bachelor/Bachelorette, Survivor, or Paradise Hotel. The latest ‘Apprentice’ received big reviews as Millionaire Donald Trump did his hiring and firing on national television. After hundreds of thousands of try outs, Mr. Trump did actually hire one person to be a vice-president of one of his companies with a yearly wage of $250,000.00. At least you see realism here.

On the other hand, there is a show presently airing called ‘The Swan’, where 17 self-described ugly ducklings chose to try and transform their wretched lives into fairy tales. These girls go through a complete makeover in a 3-month period, with plastic surgeons, dentists, personal trainers, and life coaches. All this takes place without a mirror and at the end of each episode a panel of judges’ chose which 2 move on to the final beauty pageant, where one will be crowned Ultimate Swan. Or, how about ‘Temptation Island’, where attractive singles are put on an exotic island with unmarried couples who are “leading their relationships into temptation”. It is interesting to note that the audience was rated third among children under 11!

A new and controversial episode ready to air is ‘Be my Baby’. Barbara Walters hosts this show, as a pregnant 16 year old will choose a couple to adopt her baby. Five couples will be interviewed on national television as they try to prove they would make the best parents to the child. How unreal is it to take something as sacred as adoption, mold it into a game, and then sell it for profit?

Are we becoming desensitized as the shock factor bar is raised with each new episode we see and moral boundaries are constantly being crossed? I believe that the next generations can byte into reality with proper guidance. They can be taught to watch these shows with a critical eye to see what is and is not normal (real). But also they need to know that what IS real is the fact that they/we are all created specially and that our purpose in life is to do what is right and good.

Separation Anxiety Disorder

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Between the ages of 8 months and 2 years, it’s normal for a
child to cry when its mother leaves the room or a stranger
enters it. Neither overprotection nor constant punishment will
change the situation. It’s a natural stage that usually passes
on its own. If, however, an older child continues to react to
potential separations with unreasonable fear, professional help
may be needed. If the problem isn’t resolved, it can damage the
child’s self image, leading to teenage and adult emotional
problems.

Causes

Separation anxiety disorder may run in families. It is most
likely to affect shy, nervous children. The disorder is often
triggered by a major change in the child’s life, such as a death
or hospitalization, the parents’ separation or divorce, a new
school, or a move.

Signs/Symptoms

Children with this disorder express their anxiety in a variety
of ways:

* Screaming or temper tantrums when left with others *
Insistence on sleeping with parents in their room * Difficulty
going to sleep * Fear of the dark * Nightmares * Fear of
sleeping away from home * Difficulty settling down * Fear of
meeting new people * Clinging to parents at home * Following
parents from room to room * Worrying about the family’s safety
in the home * Fear of going to school * Headaches, bellyaches,
or body aches when a separation approaches * Sadness * Quietness
* Lack of concentration

Care

This disorder poses the threat of a vicious circle in which the
child’s dependence and the parents’ protectiveness reinforce and
amplify each other. For that reason, both the parents and the
child may need to see a counselor. If the youngster refuses to
go to school, an immediate priority is to arrange a return as
quickly as possible. Risks

If this problem isn’t successfully resolved, it can lead to
greater emotional problems, such as depression, as the child
grows older. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

* Try to prepare the child for a change such as a divorce or a
move. Talk openly about such changes and encourage him to voice
his worries. Give reassurance that everyone will be safe.

* Discuss the problem with the child’s teachers. They may be
able to give you tips for dealing with this disorder both at
home and at school.

* Praise and reward the child for overcoming his fears. Call
Your Doctor If…

* The child can’t sleep. * You fear you will lose patience with
the child. ——————————————-
Conditions and Treatments: * AIDS/HIV * Allergies * Anxiety *
Arthritis * Asthma * Breast Cancer * Cardiac Disease * Cancer *
Cosmetic Surgery * Depression * Diabetes * Digestive Problems *
Headaches * Hepatitis * High Blood Pressure * High Cholesterol *
Impotence * Infections * Infertility * Kidney Disease * Liver
Disease * Migraines * Respiratory * Problems * Sexually
Transmitted Diseases * Urological Conditions * Separation
Anxiety Disorder

SYMPTOMS

Developmentally inappropriate and excessive anxiety concerning
separation from home or from those to whom the individual is
attached, as evidenced by three (or more) of the following: *
recurrent excessive distress when separation from home or major
attachment figures occurs or is anticipated * persistent and
excessive worry about losing, or about possible harm befalling,
major attachment figures * persistent and excessive worry that
an untoward event will lead to separation from a major
attachment figure (e.g., getting lost or being kidnapped)

* persistent reluctance or refusal to go to school or elsewhere
because of fear of separation

* persistently and excessively fearful or reluctant to be alone
or without major attachment figures at home or without
significant adults in other settings

* persistent reluctance or refusal to go to sleep without being
near a near a major attachment figure or to sleep away from home
* repeated nightmares involving the theme of separation *
repeated complaints of physical symptoms (such as headaches,
stomachaches, nausea, or vomiting) when separation from major
attachment figures occurs or is anticipated The duration of the
disturbance is at least 4 weeks. The onset is before age 18
years. The disturbance causes clinically significant distress or
impairment in social, academic (occupational), or other
important areas of functioning.

The disturbance does not occur exclusively during the course of
a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Schizophrenia, or other
Psychotic Disorder and, in adolescents and adults, is not better
accounted for by Panic Disorder With Agoraphobia.\

Fashion - Today`s Colour In Fashion Will It Suit Your Complexion

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Fashion - Why do women and beauty products work well together, the answer to that is quite simple, cosmetics make you look beautiful and women want to be beautiful so there you have it - a match made in heaven - the perfect duo
Today`s fashion and latest shades in lipstick is no guarantee to looking beautiful if you are not feeling good about yourself.

It`s a funny old world - the fashion world. Take those glamour models that grace the catwalk with the latest in fashion design - only to go and mess the entire look of the whole outfit with an expression of depression along with a ridiculous unbalanced walk like that of a woman who has just downed 10 pints of lager - now where is the beauty in that I ask you.

Remember never to imitate the pose of a model on a night out with friends because that friendship may just cease and heaven forbid if you are looking for a date with the opposite sex - then the chances of that happening are zilch. If you want to impress then it is all down to how you dress. You will always be at your best if you feel good. A smile radiates beauty so regardless of what the fashion it is you adorn - be sure to smile and that is half of the battle won in feeling good and looking beautiful

Why is it you wear the same colours when you go out? Why is it you feel that a certain colour is not ideally suited to your complexion even though it is in fashion? Well now is the time to change all that. Todays fashionable colours are just oozing to expel your beauty within. Positive results are guaranteed after you have boosted your confidence into looking beautiful with the latest in fashion styles and colours.

For example if you are not partial to the colour green or orange up next to the skin, well that is fine, but, at the time you decided this colour was not for you, did you ever give it a minutes thought that it was just that particular shade of green that you were not comfortable with. Remember there are 40 shades of green, now do you get my drift. Now as for orange - a colour that does need to be given much thought behind for a person`s skin tone - but if you like orange then dress it up with accessories to compliment the shade itself - this will work wonders.

Just by changing the shade of one particular colour and style of dress can be the start of finding the real beauty within. Your inner beauty may have lain static for far to long all because you took for granted that the first bright lime green luminous blouse you ever tried on was not for you, therefore leaving you resisting future fashion garments in green, But did you ever consider replacing that lime green blouse for pretty cowl neck musky jade shade.. Also a change of hairstyle can alter your whole image along with the colour that you banished from the wardrobe.

It is sad - but there are many women who are confused and believe that a certain colour does them no justice - when at the end of the day it may have been their choice in the shade.

Forex: Why Psychiatrists Make Better Traders Than Expert Economists?

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

It should be noted that millionaire traders, Elder, Williams and some others are in fact professional psychiatrists. And it is not accidental that not the economists are the leaders and most successful traders, but professional psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Think about it. You will become a successful trader when you understand why it happens with Forex. You will understand what your Forex mistakes are, and why you are making them. And when you correct these mistakes you will become a trader who has no psychological barriers and obstacles on his way to better earnings in the Forex market.

So, why do the psychiatrists make better traders than economists who, as one would think, have the Forex market at their finger tips?

The economists are confused by:

- the fact that exchange rates are not always related directly to the economic circumstances in the countries. Well, do you know any economist who would be bidding for low fx rates when the economic situation is getting better and better? Or the one who admits that technical analysis of currency pairs is more important for Forex trading than the fundamental one? Any economist is confident that this can never happen because he knows all the economic dogmas. But it happens in the Forex. After all, how can a trader lose with the currencies moving up and down by the economic rules? The currency will surely react to the economic changes in the country, but who knows when and how? Here is a tip: there is the Elliott fifth way to teach a lesson to the ones who believe that fundamental knowledge is enough (before the trend turns, the currency spurts absurdly by the old trend), to confuse and draw the newbies into the game, while the experts wait for the trend to turn back.

- the lack of psychological knowledge that helps to understand the behavior of the crowd. And that is self-evident.

Are there any methods to overcome this fear?

It seems that every Forex book, every article offers efficient solutions for psychological difficulties experienced by the traders.

IN FACT NEITHER OF THESE BOOKS CONTAINS METHODS TO OVERCOME THE FEAR EXPERIENCED BY A FOREX TRADER!

But what do these books offer instead?

Almost every book of this kind consists of two unequal parts:

- the bigger part of the book narrates about traders’ problem that interfere with their Forex work and make it unsuccessful (nervousness, doubts, worries, fear, sleep deprivation, etc.). As if the traders do not know their own problems.

- the considerably lesser part contains conclusions and recommendations to the traders who are to solve their problems and overcome their fears to become successful.

The conclusions are disappointing:

Many psychiatrists realize that the new field opens before their eyes – now they may treat traders whose number amounts to millions all over the world and is growing with every day. And since most traders have a dream to become as successful as George Soros and other famous traders, this new field promises to be rather lucrative.

One thing is bad though: the overwhelming majority of these new-sprung trader brain specialists do not even know what the Forex is all about.

Why Most People Pay Double for Laser Toner Cartridges

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

If you own a laser printer, you already know the most expensive part of ownership is purchasing laser toner cartridges. A normal laser printer has a life expectancy of five years. However, many laser printers will last longer than five years.

Did you know that over that five-year period, most people pay seven times as much for toner cartridges as they did for their printer? If your printer lasts longer than five years, you will pay even more.

Many major printer manufacturers use a marketing model similar to TiVo and Gillette razors. The basic idea is this… they sell you the printer at or near cost. Once you’ve purchased their printer, you will buy their printer supplies. Hence, the huge mark up on the price of the toner cartridges. In many cases, the cost of a brand name cartridge is more than twice what it should be.

The companies then spend a lot of money trying to convince you that you must buy their toner cartridges or you can expect to have real problems. This simply isn’t true.

I have exclusively used compatible toner cartridges for over fifteen years. Here’s what I have learned.

At first, I was very reluctant to try a compatible toner cartridge. I really didn’t understand much about them. A compatible toner cartridge is a new toner cartridge made to the specific OEM specifications of the printer manufacturer. They include the same parts and toner required for your laser printer. However, they do not have the “brand name” on the label.

These compatible toner cartridges are guaranteed to be as good as your original OEM cartridge. That means you will get the same quality of print. You will get the same quantity of print.

I have saved literally thousands of dollars in cost by using compatible toner cartridges. Over the years, I only had one instance where a compatible toner cartridge did not live up to my high expectations. I called the company and they sent me a new compatible toner cartridge the very next day… no questions, no hassle. Besides this one instance, I have always had outstanding print quality. I’ve never been shorted on the number of pages I’ve printed.

When you deal with a reputable online company, you save three ways. First, they stand behind their toner cartridges one hundred percent. How many companies have you dealt with that sent you a new replacement product the next day without a major hassle?

Second, these online toner companies do not have the cost of maintaining a storefront. They can pass the savings in overhead along to you.

Third, they are not trying to make up for minimal profit from the sale of a laser printer. If the major manufacturers made a reasonable profit on their printer sale, there would be no need for such a high mark up on their toner cartridges.

So, if you need a new laser toner cartridge and want to cut way back on your printer budget, try a compatible toner cartridge today.

Aha’s For Normalizing Combination Skin

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Often the biggest frustration for those with combination skin is
caring for it properly. Having both dry and oily skin areas on
your face can make skin care seem almost impossible. There are,
however, things that you can do to care for and keep your
combination skin healthy and feeling good.

For one thing, some areas of your face may feel tight after you
wash. This will typically be on the parts of your face not
included in the T-zone area. These areas will likely also look
flaky and dull and may feel rough.

First of all, make sure you are cleansing every day. Use a mild
cleanser on your entire face. Use the cleanser twice a day,
preferably before bed at night and after get up in the morning.
These are the times your face most needs to be cleansed anyway,
but if you have combination skin it is imperative.

Get a good moisturizer. Once you have identified which parts of
your face are the dry parts, most likely these areas are not in
the T-zone and this is the area you will treat. Use the
moisturizer on those dry areas only. Using it in your oily
T-zone will only make that area worse.

The goal when you have combination skin is to normalize it.
Normalizing is trying to gain a balance between the oily and dry
areas so that all your skin looks and feels the same. In order
to accomplish this feat, you want to look for products that are
made for such normalization. For instance, ones that contain
alpha hydroxyl acids (fruit acids or AHA’s) or retinols will
work best. Retinols are a vitamin A derivative. Such products
should help you to gain more normal and even looking skin.

The reason AHA creams are so beneficial to your skin is that
they area catalyst for skin cell regeneration. By burning off or
removing the top layer of skin cells (or the too oily and too
dry ones) they expose the healthier skin cells beneath them.
These cells are more likely to absorb moisturizers. They also
help improve skin elasticity through their water-binding
properties. This can help with that “tight” feeling you may get
in the dry areas with your combination skin. The only thing
about which you need to be aware is that once you are using
AHA’s, you need to continue using them. Once you stop, your
cells will not regenerate at the rate they were with the AHA and
will return to their original state very soon.
