Kendo Dojos

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

http://www.international-kendo.com

Kendo, like most other martial arts, can only be learned with
the help of a qualified sensei (teacher). There are many
companies that sell kendo videos and kendo pictures, saying that
it will teach a person how to be a samurai. This is completely
false, a sensei will point out what is wrong with your technique
and kata.

In order to learn kendo properly, you need to go to a kendo dojo
(kendo school) where you can have lessons with someone who has
been doing kendo for many years. Sensei aren’t the only people
who can help you learn, most classes have many other students
who can also help point out what you are doing wrong.

Why would a company blatently lie to you? A simple answer: they
want money. Most of those companies that make the kendo videos
don’t really care about you or kendo. However, dojo are only
payed enough to keep running and the sensei are normally
volunteers. Why would a sensei be a volunteer? Because he loves
kendo; that is how you know you will be learning: if a teacher
loves his subject, that love will pass on to his student.

Before join a dojo make sure you like it. Do not base your
choice on things like distance from your house or price of
membership. If you do not like your dojo, it will show in your
kendo. Go visit five or ten kendo dojo and pick one that meets
your needs the best. Some things to consider are the physical
dojo, the sensei, the other students, the teaching style, and
the ambience.

Site drainage problems

Site drainage problems

Inspect the grounds of your old house for drainage problems

Observe the drainage pattern of the entire property, as well as that of the properties next door.

The ground should slope away from all sides of the building. Downspouts, drains and gutters, should re-direct water away from the foundation. Check the planting beds next to the foundations.

Planting beds are often mounded in a way that traps water and edging around planting beds acts like a dam to trap water. Most problems with moisture in basements are caused by poor site drainage. The ground also should slope away from window wells, outside basement stairs, and other areaways.

The bottom of each of these should be sloped to a drain. Each drain should have piping that connects it to a storm water drainage system, if there is one, or that drains to either a discharge at a lower grade or into a sump pit that collects and disperses water away from the building. Drains and piping should be open and clear of leaves, earth, and debris. A garden hose can be used to test water flow, although its discharge cannot approximate storm conditions.

Where a building is situated on a hillside, it is more difficult to slope the ground away from the building on all sides. On the high ground side of the building, the slope of the ground toward the building should be interrupted by a surface drainage system that collects and disposes of rainwater runoff.

There are two general types of surface drainage systems:
·an open system consisting of a swale (often referred to as a ditch), sometimes with a culvert at its end to collect and channel water away,
·and a closed system consisting of gutters with catch basins.

Combinations of the two are often used. The locations and layout of culverts, gutters, drains, and catch basins should be such that if they became blocked and overflowed no significant damage will occur and that any resultant ice conditions will not pose a danger to pedestrians or vehicles.

The design of surface drainage systems is based on the intensity and duration of rainstorms and on allowable runoff. These conditions are usually regulated by the local building code, which can be used to check the adequacy of an existing surface drainage system.
In some locations, especially where slopes lack vegetation to slow water flow, it may be possible to reduce rehabilitation costs by diverting rainwater into a swale at or near the top of the slope and thereby reduce the amount of rainwater runoff handled by a surface drainage system.

This swale, of course, must be within the property on which the building is located. The ground beneath porches and other parts of a building that are supported on piers should be examined carefully. It should have no low areas and be sloped so that water will not collect there.

Water from the roof reaches the ground through gutters and downspouts or by flowing directly off roof edges. Because downspouts create concentrated sources of water in the landscape, where they discharge is important. Downspouts should not discharge where water will flow directly on or over a walk, drive, or stairs. The downspouts on a hillside building should discharge on the downhill side of the building. The force of water leaving a downspout is sometimes great enough to damage the adjacent ground, so some protection at grade such as a splash pan or a paved drainage chute is needed.

In urban areas, it is better to drain downspouts to an underground storm water drainage system, if there is one, or underground to discharge at a lower grade away from buildings. Water that flows directly off a roof lacking gutters and downspouts can cause damage below.

Accordingly, some provision in the landscaping may be needed, such as a gravel bed or paved drainage way.
When a sump pump is used to keep a building interior dry, the discharge onto the site should be located so that the discharge drains away from the building and does not add to the subsurface water condition the sump pump is meant to control.

The site should be examined overall for the presence of springs, standing water, saturated or boggy ground, a high water table, and dry creeks or other seasonal drainage ways, all of which may affect surface drainage. It is especially important to inspect the ground at and around a septic system seepage bed, seepage pit, or absorption trenches.

Want An Online Credit Card Merchant Account?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

An online credit card merchant account can help your business in ways you might not have imagined. While it may seem as though only high-ranking company executives or big-name corporations might be interested in a merchant account, there are many reasons why a small-scale entrepreneur or even a home business owner might want to learn more about this unique marketing and credit card payment tool.

One reason to consider an online credit card merchant account is because you can apply directly through your company’s bank, if you have been doing business with a local financial institution. Chances are the bank can offer a merchant account to business owners like you, but it is important to check the terms and fees, since you may be able to get a better deal elsewhere. Banks don’t always have the lowest prices on accounts like this. You can browse the Internet or ask around the business community to find out who has the lowest merchant services account fees. The costs may include any combination of the following: application fee, setup fee, gateway, maintenance and service, annual membership, and others. However, some account underwriters can waive some or all of these fees for the right customer. Find out if your company is eligible for these waivers or some type of discount before you apply.

Another reason to think about applying for an online credit card merchant account is to upgrade your professional status and enhance the way you do business. You don’t have to operate in the mom-and-pop stage of development forever. Instead, you can get the merchant account and start processing business dealings faster and more efficiently than ever. Your customers will admire and appreciate your efforts to make things work better for them, and your employees will appreciate the time saving steps that can be implemented with a merchant account.

When approved, your online credit card merchant account will help you create a Website to represent your business on the World Wide Web. Some underwriters provide free software and setup while others charge for these services. Be sure that your site offers an up-to-date image with plentiful information to catch the browser’s eye and keep customers interested long enough to make a sale. When they do decide to purchase something, your merchant account setup will let them pay right away with a credit card instead of waiting for a check to be posted. The money will be funneled by the underwriter through a gateway for deposit in your checking account.

With an online credit card merchant account, your Website can soon become fully functional, alleviating much of the sales and cashier work that your company may presently be handling. Your time will be freed to deal with other aspects of the business, perhaps the more creative venues. In the meantime the Website will be automated enough to process payments without the help of customer service, except for the occasional question or problem, so keep someone available at least part-time for this purpose.

Don’t wait for your competitors to jump at the chance to get ahead of you. Find out now how you can apply for an affordable online credit card merchant account.

King + Queen = Royal Success

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Ever wonder how or why your competitor gets better search engine rankings than you do? Does he know something you don’t? Well, maybe he actually does…And that’s where I come in. I’m here to unveil the secret tricks of the trade that may be giving your competitor that much-needed edge in search engine rankings and to show you how you can reclaim your position without skipping a beat. Quite simply, I am going to give you the key to unlocking the secret chest of information that your competition is using to get better rankings.

It is not that difficult. There are two main criteria to getting good rankings:

  1. Content (which is king)

  2. Linking (which is queen)

Content is King

Content is easily viewable and just as easy to measure. It basically includes what you see on the site: the text. If your competition has more text than you, consider increasing yours; if he has more keywords, consider increasing yours; if he has bigger headers, consider increasing yours. By all means, I am not saying to make a carbon copy of his site, but do look at the “on the site” factors that you are lacking and evaluate whether to increase them on your site. A note of caution - make sure that any changes you make actually improves the site and increases its value for your customers. In other words, don’t sacrifice quality for quantity unless you believe that the added text actually serves to better the overall look, feel and quality of your site.

Some ideas to increase quality/quantity of content:

  • Write a monthly article about your topic

  • Write a page about your keyphrase/product/service

  • If your headers don’t have your keyphrase in them, then be sure to add it

  • Make sure the titles on all your pages relate to the content of the page

  • Write, write, write (and then write some more!).

Linking is Queen

Linking requires more research. Look up your competitions site on Google by typing in: link: http://www.competitorsdomain.com/ into the search box (replace competitorsdomain with the URL of your competitor). Now the search results you will be looking at is a list of all the sites that are linking to your competitor. Go through that list, and for each site, figure out how he got that link. Some links might be paid for, some might be link exchanges, some might be directories like dmoz.org or Yahoo, and others might be references or testimonials. Make a spreadsheet with each site linking to your competition, and jot down how he got the link. Then, for each site that is appropriate, get it to link to you. Remember to stay away from link farms and low quality links. Link farms are sites that have nothing but links. Low quality links are sites with little to no content. These sites will often try to exchange links with you: Don’t do it! Only link to a site if it will enhance the user experience of your clients.

For more about linking, see my article entitled Linking is Queen:

Royal Success

Getting links takes time and patience, and writing is not usually done overnight. To top it off, once these projects are done, you then have to wait for the search engines to discover and re-evaluate your site. Both the link campaign and the writing projects should be something done on a regular basis, not as a one-shot injection. Try to create new pages every month, and to get some links every month. That way your site will make the gradual climb to the top. And who doesn’t want that?

How To Choose Wisely A FOREX Broker

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Most traders use a FOREX broker to handle their transactions. What exactly are brokers? Strictly speaking, brokers are individuals or companies that buy and sell orders according the investor’s decisions. Brokers earn money by charging a commission or a fee for their services.

FOREX brokers need to be associated with a large financial institution such as a bank in order to provide the funds necessary for margin trading. In the United States a broker should be registered as a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as protection against fraud and abusive trade practices.

Before trading FOREX you need to set up an account with a FOREX broker. You may feel overwhelmed by the number of brokers who offer their services online. Deciding on a broker requires a little bit of research on your part, but the time spent will give you insight into the services that are available and fees charged by various brokers.

The best advertising is word-of-mouth advertising, and this is just as valid in FOREX trading as it is for any other type of business. Talk to friends and associates to see who they are dealing with and find if they have any complaints or difficulties in dealing with a particular broker.

You could try selecting a few online brokers and contact their Internet help desks to see how quickly they respond to enquiries and whether or not they answer questions to your satisfaction. Keep in mind, however, that pre-sales service may be better than after sales service. This can be true for any online business, not just FOREX brokers.

Customer satisfaction and safety are just part of the story. You want to find a broker who executes orders quickly and with minimum slippage. All online brokers should offer automatic execution and have clear policies regarding slippage. They should be able to tell you how much slippage can be expected in both normal and fast-moving markets.

Next you want to know the fees involved. What is the spread? Is spread fixed or variable according to the type of account? Are mini accounts subject to wider spreads? Are there any other charges? Smaller spreads mean more profit for the trader, but there may be a trade-off between spread and service. Look at the overall picture before deciding to go with a particular broker.

Margin accounts are the lifeblood of FOREX trading, so be sure you understand the broker’s margin terms before setting up an account. You need to know the margin requirements and how margin is calculated. Does margin change according to the currency traded? Is it the same every day of the week? Some brokers may offer different margins for mini and standard accounts.

Trading software is very important for the online FOREX trader. Get a feel for the options that are available by trying out a demo account at a few online brokers. Above all, you are looking for reliability and the ability to perform well in fast-moving markets. The software should offer automatic trading and may have special features such as trailing stops and trading from the chart. Some features may only be available at an extra cost, so be sure you understand what your trading needs are and how much the broker charges to provide them.

Other information to find out about includes the broker’s policy regarding minimum account balances, interest payments on account balances, which currencies can be traded and whether or not non-standard sized lots can be traded. You should also find out whether clients’ funds are insured and the extent of that insurance.

New to FOREX trading? Don’t panic! Abc-of-forex.com gives you all the basic information you need to get started in currency trading. For more info visit this FOREX trading website.

It’s 12 Noon, Do You Know Who’s Using Your Network?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

The idea of reading email while lounging by the pool, text or instant messaging while doing the laundry, or lounging in the Jacuzzi listening to your MP3 collection is appealing to us all.

Unfortunately, many, or even most, wireless units don’t come with security features already functioning. This may not seem like a big issue to someone who is simply setting up a home network, but there are a number of potential problems you should consider.

The most serious problem is the increase in identity theft. If your network is unsecured, the personal data on your wireless electronic equipment is also unsecured. The order you just placed for a book at Amazon may have given your contact and payment information to an unscrupulous hacker!

Nearly every town in which “WiFi” is common will have “War Drivers” and “War Chalkers” at work. These are people who walk or drive around town with wireless equipment, searching for unsecured networks. The “Chalkers” then live up their name, marking curbs and other public items with chalk so that others can more easily find and exploit your network.

Not all “War Drivers” are hackers, of course. Many just want to use your network for free, but the risk is high if you don’t learn how to protect yourself. You can usually find quite a bit of free information as to how to secure your network at the website of your router’s manufacturer, or by doing a search in a search engine for a phrase like “secure home wireless.”

Beyond the truly malicious, there are also your neighbors who may find your network by accident and enjoy nosing into your activities and using your Internet access at will, slowing down your network speed in the process.

Even many businesses use cheap, home-use quality equipment for their company networks. With the poor security often found on small business networks, anyone with a basic knowledge of wireless can access sensitive company and customer data.

If you are unable to secure your network yourself, there are many service companies who will do it for you. A search of your local yellow pages or an inquiry at your neighborhood computer store should yield professional help and get your private data private again

New forms of malicious Spyware and Adware are constantly created and in order to protect your computer from infestations you must choose a high-quality program and keep it updated. Supportcave.com offer a selected number of the very best really free adware removal programs available for immediate online download

Why Macy’s Cleans Their Floors At Odd Hours

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I was at Macy’s the other day checking out pots and pans. The salesman came
up to me and told me about a set on sale for $99. marked down from $300. It
was EXACTLY what I had been looking for to replace our teflon bare pans! I said
let me go call my husband. A hundred bucks is still a hundred bucks, right?

So
Denny and I decided to get them. I went back and grabbed a box with a small
saute pan to add to the boxed set on sale. I stood before the display and
grabbed the larger box underneath. At one point I noticed that the display was
shifting a tad. All the pots and pans were displayed along with glass (glass
being the operative word here) jars filled with gourmet mustards and sauces.
Other ‘glass’ jars were filled with rice and pasta … well rice for sure… and I
think the other was pasta…..
As I said… I noticed the display began to shift… in s-l-o-w m-o-t-i-o-n…. you
know how that is? You have time to envision the inevitable end? The disaster at
hand?

The crash was awesome! Rice and gourmet sauces…EVERYWHERE. It was hard
to decipher which was louder… the SCREAM of the salesgirl nearby… or the
actual crash!
Sheesh a ma neesh I thought… even in the midst of this… CALM DOWN! As we
all know… I am not exactly a low keyed person once prompted in the direction
of excitement. Yet… I still felt the salesgirl was a bit premature. I mean, the
items had not fully landed!

‘DON’T MOVE!!’ exclaimed the salesgirl as she surveyed the final damage.
Meanwhile the clerk who had first talked me into getting the pots and pans had
arrived at the scene.

“Why didn’t you ask me to get them for you?” he said with mournful regret.

Keep in mind… I am still standing there… remembering the salesgirls cry of
‘DON’T MOVE!’, holding the boxes in place against the display. I am sort of
wondering how long I must stand in this position.

The salesgirl begins yelling at all wanna be passers by…”DON’T COME THIS
WAY!! GO AROUND… THERE IS RICE ALL OVER THE FLOOR… IT IS ‘VERY’
DANGEROUS!!!”
Naturally… EVERYONE… from far and wide in the whole store was curious at
this point.
I had to move… ya know? Just how long was I to stand in that weird
position?….I did… and the final jar of mustard… flew to the ground, splattering
everywhere the sauces and rice and what not, had missed.

“NOOOO000000ooooo!’ I heard the salesgirl exclaim… adding to the drama.
“DON’T WALK ON THE FLOOR… THERE IS RICE ‘EVERYWHERE … AND ‘GLASS!”
“STAY THERE!” she redirected her attention back to me.

Hummm I thought after another 3-4 minutes… am I to stay in this spot
‘forever’? I decided to break another one of her newly set rules and tip toed
ever so carefully onto the carpet.
Her LOOK…WOULD KILL!
“OK then”, I said, “Well I would still like the pots and pans”
“Come this way”, said the salesman, who had first helped me, as he quite
gingerly picked up the boxes from still another display. (I think they must get a
commission)
I was glad to get out of there needless to say.

As I left I could still hear the salesgirl directing potential traffic… “STOP!…
DON’T COME DOWN THIS WAY… GO A-R-O-U-N-D!!”
When I went home I went through my cupboards, gathered up all the worn pots
and pans in question and replaced them with my shiny new set! Awesome! I
made a couple eggs for Denny and they were fabulous!

What can I say… I have never been graceful and never been a dancer… I am
exercising though and I think I heard or read somewhere that makes one more
sure on their feet and clears ones head!
