New Book Helps Worried Owners Of A Pregnant Cat

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

‘Help, my cat is pregnant and I don’t know what to do!’ Not a day goes by without someone posting this message to an Internet forum.

Worried cat owners will know what to do if they read How To Take Care Of Your Pregnant Cat. This new publication is one of the first English-language books in many years exclusively on cat pregnancy.

The author, journalist and long-time cat lover Marc de Jong, is the owner of www.cat-pregnancy-report.com. This web site started in August 2004 and quickly established itself as a very popular site.

“Before I started my site, it was quite difficult to find a comprehensive guide on the Net about pregnancy in cats”, says de Jong. “Many cat sites and forums tell owners only to spay their cat and almost flame people to death if they say their cat got pregnant. Of course they are right when they say there’s an overpopulation of cats. However, it’s also a fact that millions of cats do get pregnant unplanned. If you don’t tell their owners what to do and what to expect, you can endanger the life of these cats.”

Marc de Jong received dozens of e-mails from worried cat owners since he started his site. “Questions were often so detailed that I had to do a lot of research to answer them. The information I gathered was so valuable that I wanted to share it with all cat lovers.”

Instead of adding it to his already very informative web site, he decided to publish a book. “Web sites have limitations”, de Jong says. “People tend to scan pages and miss half of the text. They are constantly persuaded to click through to another site. Also, printing a page isn’t always easy. And if you have a dial-up account, then the more you read, the more money you pay.”

To give cat owners immediate access to his book he turned How To Take Care Of Your Pregnant Cat into an e-book, a digital publication downloadable from his web site. He added extra value by interviewing award-winning breeders and veterinarians specialized in cats. Their insider tips are all in the book.

How To Take Care Of Your Pregnant Cat covers almost every subject related to pregnancy in cats. Heat cycles, mating, signs of cat pregnancy, food, care, birth, raising kittens … it’s all there.

“The first response from readers is very good”, says the author. “There’s no doubt the book is a great help for owners of a pregnant cat.”

Passing The Test

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

It has been said that, there is a purpose for our life here on earth. Does it comes to mind that it maybe a test? If so what kind of test and how does one pass this test? The dictionary explains test a meaning (analysis, trial, tryout, exam, final, put to the proof.) Let’s see what the Bible says about test. First look at Romans 12:2 it says; Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’ will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

Now look at 1Corinthians 3:12 it says; If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

Look at Proverbs 17:3 it says; The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

Now look at 1Thessalonians 2:3 it says; For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God, is our witness. We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else.

Look at Hebrews 4:12 it says; For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Now look at 1John 4:1 it says; Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see weather they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God; Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but who ever is not from God does not listen to us. This how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Now look at 2Peter 2:1 it says; But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bring swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute (dishonorable, disgraceful.) In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

Look at 1John 2:18 it says; Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

Now look at 1John 3:7 it says; Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Look at 1Chronicles 29:17 it says; I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. O Lord, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

Now look at Psalm 26:2 it says; Test me, O Lord, and try me, examine my heart and mind; for your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.

Look at Jeremiah 17:10 it says; I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.

In closing look at Psalm 139:23 it says; Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Exchange Traded Funds Primer

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are a group of passive index funds that trade on an exchange like an individual stock. At the time of writing there are 162 ETFs with $220 billion in assets under management trading on U.S. exchanges.

ETFs hold a basket of securities that mimic the results of various indices including broad stock and bond market, industry sectors, and international securities. New niche funds are being created regularly. Recent introductions include gold and China funds, and there are rumors that a silver ETF will soon be available.

The most popular ETF is the NASDAQ 100 Tracking Stock (QQQQ) trading 50 million shares a day on the NASDAQ Stock Market. The volume leaders on the American Stock Exchange are the SPDRS (SPY) tracking the S&P 500 trading 25 million shares per day, the Energy SPDR (XLE), Japan iShares (EWJ), Russell 2000 iShares (IWM), and the Financial SPDR (XLF).

ETFs are widely used by institutional and individual investors as a tool for diversification, risk reduction, hedging, and an efficient way to acquire a basket of securities providing partial ownership in all holdings with only a single commission and small administration fees. ETFs are also transparent, meaning that investors know at all times what securities they are invested in.

There are now also options and futures contracts trading on of ETFs. The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) lists 43 options on ETFs, while the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) offers futures contracts on the S&P 500 Depository Receipts, NASDAQ 100 Tracking Stock, and Russell 2000 Index Fund. And One Chicago, a joint venture between the CBOE, CME, and Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), offers an electronically traded futures contract on the DIAMONDS Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF.

There are also a number of web sites offering information on Exchange Traded Funds. Check out Amex.com, Yahoo! Finance’s ETF Center, ETFConnect, or ETFera.com. Meanwhile, investment research firm Morningstar compares the fair value estimates to market prices of exchange traded funds holdings to determine whether a fund is over or undervalued.

Exchange Traded Fund’s low costs, liquidity, and diversification make them an excellent alternative to mutual funds, broad based index investments, and individual stocks in niche sectors.

Tips for a User-Friendly Website

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

The last thing you want to do after writing, developing, and
creating your website is to find out that your website isn’t
drawing people in like you thought it would. You think it looks
great, so why aren’t people staying and checking things out ? It
may be that people take one look and head straight for the back
button. Or it could be that they just get turned off by how much
they have to do to even get the value from your site. There are
a few ways you can make sure your site is user-friendly and
appealing to your potential customers. You only get one chance
for a first impression and you want it to be a good one.

Put your self in your customers shoes. What do you think they
want to see on your site ? Make sure your font colors aren’t too
bright and can easily be read. White backgrounds are best and
offer a clean look thats easy to read against any color font. If
you use any images for your background, make sure they are
simple and don’t make the font disappear and look tacky. This
will make your website hard to read and look too “busy”.

Also take it easy on images and fancy graphics and gadgets on
your site, this could make for a longer load time and may turn
your customers off before the page even loads!

Make sure you have links at the bottom of every page to navigate
around your website, and to get back to your home page so people
don’t feel lost when browsing around. You’ll want to make sure
to have an “about us” page to tell about yourself or company so
your customer feels more comfortable with you.

If you have a lot of text on your home page, or a sales letter,
make sure some of the text stands out with bold or different
colors, ect.. This creates points of interest so there is some
excitement on the page that way the customer doesn’t get turned
off by the amount of text.

Last but not least, just make sure all your links work, your
pages are easily navigated, make sure everything is neat and
accessible, and you should have some happy (and hopefully
buying) customers on your hands!

Best Wishes,

Maranda Mann

Best of British: Gizmondo Doomed To Fail?

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

The Gizmondo combined media player, phone and gaming gadget went on sale in the last month for £229. The device sports an impressive spec: - It can be used to play games, music tracks and movies, it can take and store digital photos and can send SMS, MMS and emails, GPS, GPRS and Bluetooth for multi-player gaming.

From April 22nd you’ll be able to buy a Gizmondo for £100 less - a cool 44% saving. In return, for this discount, Gizmondo users will have to watch three “Smart Adds” per day.

The Smart Adds will mainly consist of video clips and small games that come with redemption codes or barcodes that are wirelessly delivered to your Gizmondo over its GPRS connection.

I’m not so sure that this option is cheaper….Ok, 44% less but who pays the data cost for downloading the ad? Even if each ad is only 100Kb (I’m guessing they’ll be more but I’m being generous) then on my network (Vodafone) at £2.35/Mb these ads would cost me £257!!!

Other reasons why I think the Gizmondo is destined for failure are:

- It costs £229. Nintendo’s DS handheld costs £99, and a PSP is expected to cost £129 - far less than the cost of a Gizmondo

- The DS already has a pool of fans of earlier Nintendo handhelds to draw on (87,000 DS handhelds were sold in the first two days in Europe) and the PSP is also likely to have a strong following

- Most importantly, it doesn’t have a killer game for launch

I’d love to be able to ‘Buy British’ but I think the Gizmondo will go the way of the C5, Sedgeway etc. May be worth buying one as I bet it will be worth a bit in 10 years!

Maybe in a year I’ll be proven wrong.

I LOVE Howard Dean

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

While Howard Dean is out there talking about how much “hate” he has for Republicans and about how evil, dishonest and nasty we are I am here to stand up and say something very important. I LOVE you Mr. Dean! I mean that from the bottom of my dark, conservative, white, Christian heart. I really do love you man.

And I love you more and more every day because you are out there showing everyone what you and the base of the Democratic Party believes. I love how you are out there each and every day spewing vitriol and hate to cheering crowds of party supporters. I love how you are out there telling everyone that I and my “Republican” friends have never made an honest living in their lives while I work at my regular job 10 or 11 hours a day and still find the time to run my own business to help provide a higher standard of living for my family. I love how you talk about how bigoted I am simply because I don’t look first at the color of one’s skin when judging their qualifications but rather the content of their character. I love how you are running around from Kool-Aid party to Kool-Aid party talking about how I am evil and uncaring because I don’t think that it is government’s right to take money from the paychecks of the American workers to give to other people who did not earn it.

Further, I love how you are truly passionate about attacking myself, my family and my friends. No, I really mean it! I mean it because each and every day you solidify in our minds just how right we really are and just how out of the mainstream you and the base of the Democratic Party is.

As your base cheers your words I love to see true Democrats scratching their head and trying to justify what you say to them. And eventually they give up and realize that they don’t have that much in common with the “base” of the party that is driving your words and the party policy.

I love that about you Howard Dean. I love how you are making honest people realize just how insane the base of the Democratic Party is. And I love how you are working with a fervor to rip the party apart into the true Democratic Party of old and the American Marxist Party of the base. By God Howard! Good show! Bloody good show!

Keep it up, and if you need any help, let me know. I will be more than happy to do whatever I can to help you get your message out there for all of America to see and hear. After all, I don’t want you to be able to complain that you can’t get your message out there and that the American people don’t understand where you are on the issues.

How to eat well on a tight budget

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Just about everyone wants to eat better, but budgetary
constraints sometimes make healthy eating a difficult goal. It
is important, however, to buy the healthiest food you can
afford, whether you are cooking only for yourself or for a
growing family.

One fun and easy way to cook healthy food while still saving
money is to grow your own herbs and spices. Unlike a vegetable
garden, that can take up lots of space and involve a lot of
work, a simple herb garden can be easily grown in a windowsill
or similar small space. There are kits available for just a few
dollars that contain the seeds, pots and other items needed to
start an herb garden, or you can save even more money by buying
the seeds and planters yourself.

Cooking with herbs and spices is a great way to enjoy healthy
cooking on a budget. Spices and herbs are a great way to flavor
dishes without the need for heavy sauces, butter or other high
fat preparations. Growing your own herbs give the grower a great
deal of control over those herbs. This is important, since many
prepared herbs and spices contain large amounts of sodium.

Another excellent way to save money while still eating a healthy
diet is to buy fresh fruits and vegetables when they are in
season in your local area. Buying locally grown produce is often
the best way to guarantee freshness and quality, and in season
produce is generally less expensive since it does not need to be
shipped hundreds or even thousands of miles.

Watching the sales at the local grocery stores is important to
everyone, but it is particularly important to those who are
trying to eat right on a limited budget. Using grocery store
sales to stock up on such important staples as whole grain
cereals, breads and whole wheat flour is a great way to make
even the most limited food budget stretch a bit further.

Using coupons is another great way to make a food budget
stretch. Cutting coupons is a great way to save money on
products you already buy, as is signing up for various frequent
buyer programs and other money savings opportunities.

In addition to manufacturers coupons, many grocery store chains
offer customer loyalty cards which allow their customers to save
money on products they buy regularly. These grocery store
loyalty programs often print coupons for products customers have
bought in the past, and they can be great ways to save
significant amounts of money. Since most of these programs are
free, there is really no downside to their use.

Stocking up on meats, seafood and poultry during store sales is
another great way to save significant amounts of money. Buying a
second hand chest freezer may be a good investment, particularly
for those people with large families to feed. Having a large
freezer space allows customers to take advantage of grocery
store sales and stock up on chicken, beef, lamb, fish and pork
when they are on sale.

Careful meal planning is another great way to save money while
still providing healthy meals for yourself and your family.
Planning meals well ahead of time allows you to take advantage
of what is already in your freezer in order to create delicious,
nutritious meals without spending any additional money.

One great thing about most fruits, vegetables and beans is their
low cost. Another great feature of these staples is their high
nutritional value. Combining these two important features is a
great way to make your budget stretch while providing your
family with nutritious, healthy foods.

For instance, why not make that expensive skirt steak go further
by interspersing chunks of expensive beef with chunks of
inexpensive pineapples or green peppers. Not only will you get
twice as much food for your money, but you will enjoy a
healthier meal as well.

No matter what strategies you choose to make your food budget
stretch when cooking healthy meals, we think you will find that
cooking healthy is worth any sacrifice it may require. Healthy
cooking will pay big dividends in increased health and fitness,
as well as increased energy levels.

Interesting facts about Mount Snowdon, Wales

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

If you plan to visit Snowdon in Wales this summer, here is some interesting information about the mountain that you might like to know.

Snowdon, in Welsh, is Yr Wyddfa, which means tomb or monument. Legend has it that it is the tomb of Rhita Gawr, an ogre who would kill kings and make cloaks out of their beards. He supposedly met his end when King Arthur climbed to the top of Mount Snowdon and killed him.

No one knows who first conquered Snowdon, but ascents of the mountain became popular when Thomas Pennant published ‘Tours’ in 1781 and included his visit to the summit.

Snowdon, as indeed the surrounding area, has been mined since the Bronze Age, and evidence of copper mining can be seen all over the mountain, from old mine buildings, to old tramways. Care should be taken around these old buildings.

Facts and Figures of Snowdon

Snowdon stands 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) high. Each year 350,000 people reach the summit, some on foot and some by train. The summit has 200 inches(508 cm) of rain per year, and can reach temperatures of 30 centigrade in high summer, and plummet to - 20 centigrade in the winter. Add to this winds of up to 150 mph and the temperature can feel more like - 50. The summit buildings at the top can by covered by ice and snow between November and April.

Snowdon Mountain Railway

Before the railway, ponies used to take tourists to the summit of Snowdon. Sir Richard Moon and Mr George Assheton Smith were responsible for the idea of the Snowdon Railway - Sir Moon as a way of boosting tourists using his standard gauge lines, and Mr Smith as he realised that tourist cash may compensate him from the loss of income from his declining mines.

They imported a fully working 800mm gauge mountain railway from Switzerland. The railway remains the only rack and pinion railway in the UK. It has tooted racks in the centre of the track that engage with cogs under the carriages.

The only accident on the railway occurred on the day it opened to the public in 1896. Engine #1, Ladas, derailed and plummeted down a slope. The crew jumped from the engine and survived, and the guard applied the hand brake to the carriages and brought them to a halt. Unfortunately, one of the passengers panicked and jumped from the carriage, falling onto the tracks and under the wheels. He later died from his injuries. The saga wasn’t quite over, as just as the carriages stopped, the engine following behind (Enid - still operating today) hit them from behind!

The railway was closed. Since it reopened the following year there have been no further accidents! And since that date there has never been another Engine #1 on the Snowdon Railway!

The cost of the train trip is not cheap (apart from being a good walk in itself, another reason for trying to make the summit on foot!), but is a great way for those who cannot make the climb to travel to the top. However, good weather cannot be guaranteed, and you may start the trip on a clear day, only to find yourself in cloud as you reach the top.

If you choose to take the train up Mount Snowdon, you can walk back down via the Llanberis Path. You can get some wonderful views of the trains puffing their way up and down from the path. Not all trains are steam - there are also diesel engines.

If you plan to take the train up to the top of Snowdon beware that the trains get very crowded in the summer, and it is best to arrive early or even more advisable to book in advance by ringing 0870 458 0033 at least the day before. If you don’t you may have a long wait. A board by the ticket office will tell you which is the next train with available seats. You can buy a return, or a single to the top. Single tickets for the journey down are sold on standby basis only.

Weather permitting the trains run from mid May to the end of October right to the summit, but from mid March, and a little way into November, stop at Clogwyn. Trains start running at 9am and continue until late afternoon.

Buildings on Snowdon Summit

In 1820 the first stone shelter was built at the summit by a guide named Lloyd. A copper miner, William Morris, had the idea of selling refreshments from the shelter - an idea which continues to the present day. Having walked up the mountain it is probably as welcome today, as it was to the earlier tourist, to be able to have something to eat and drink before tackling the descent.

Two hotels were opened on the summit, one called Roberts Hotel, the other the Cold Club. Both were in fierce competition with each other. There were often more visitors then beds though, and conditions were not the best. By 1898 the Snowdon Mountain Railway and Hotels Company had taken over the hotels, and started to rebuild them - the fierce conditions on the top of Mount Snowdon means that any building had a limited live. By the 1930s it was decided to replace the summit buildings with a multipurpose hotel, cafe and station. With little regard to conservation, the builders simply pushed the derelict old huts over the side of the mountain to make way for the new build (imagine the uproar today!). Sir Clough William-Ellis, the architect and designer of nearby Portmerion, designed the new building, complete with huge picture windows so visitors could best enjoy the panoramic views. Unfortunately the windows lasted only six months before they were blown in and had to be replaced with much smaller ones.

During the war years the summit buildings were used by the Ministry of Supply for experimental radio work, and subsequently by Air Ministry, Admiralty and Armed forces, and the mountain top was closed to tourists. The hotel did not reopen to tourists after the war.

In 2004 it was agreed that the summit buildings would undergo a total refurbishment. Demolition is due to start in the autumn of 2006, with the new centre being ready in 2007. There has been much debate about the form of the new buildings, but one thing is certain - whatever the new buildings look like, they will always be a welcome sight to walkers who have struggled their way to the top of the mountain!

Pat Ransom has walked both Snowden and Ben Nevis and encourages others to do the same on the website http://www.mountainwalk.co.uk. Being a keen photographer the site is full of photos of both mountains and the surrounding areas.
