How to Decorate Your Home and Yard for Thanksgiving

Filed under: Safaris + Travel — admin @ 8:44 pm

Although Thanksgiving usually doesn’t call for as much effort as Christmas in the decorating department, you can still spruce things up a bit for the holiday.

Yard Decor for Thanksgiving

Some of the most beautiful yard decorations are simple, while also natural in color and design. The best way to save time and effort is to blend your decor where it can accomplish the fall and Thanksgiving look and feel all at once. You probably wouldn’t want to decorate several times per year. There are many ways to decorate so that the theme of Thanksgiving is not profound, but is “understood”. The decorations can be meant for either fall or Thanksgiving, so you can decorate a little earlier and still not be too ahead of the game.

Simple and Affordable Yard Decor Ideas

To keep it simple, you can get most of the materials needed for your yard decorations by taking a walk through the woods. Gather pine combs, leaves, vines, acorns, tree limbs. Combining these items and adding a few store bought items can produce beautiful home-made decor that’s inexpensive. Some add-ins may include a bale of hay, pumpkins (large or miniature), ears of corn, squash or other colorful ornaments.

Enhance your porch or patio with some hanging decorations with fall-like scenery on them, a wind chime with colorful leaves or even a wreath with fall colors.

If you have a path leading to your door or through your yard, add some pumpkins on a stake (or turkeys) to line the pathway.

Home Decor Ideas

Create a certain mood in your home with fall or Thanksgiving aromas such as pine or pumpkin. You can use potpourri in liquid form or scented candles (in fall colors). Of course, on Thanksgiving Day, the aroma of all the cooking will probably be enough!

For the dining area, create a seasonal atmosphere with a decorative table cloth, or placemats with matching napkins.

For table decorations in each room, centerpieces with flowers or leaves are always a winner. You can often find centerpieces with very pretty fall colors in many different sizes and shapes.

If you really want to go all out in decorating, buy some welcome mats and/or runner carpets (that match your current flooring, of course) and use these only during the fall season. This is something that can quickly and easily be replaced when the Christmas season begins.

Fruit baskets are also popular for decorating, although they won’t last very long. If your family enjoys eating fruit, you can eat the fruit from the baskets throughout the week, and replace it at the end of each week with fresh fruit.

For an extra bonus, add some large walnuts or pecans to the mix.

Creating a Thanksgiving or fall theme in your home really sets the mood for the season for your family and guests. It’s a great way to bring in the Christmas season as well.

Use these tips to have fun decorating while spending less, and you’ll be able to enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.

Co-Parenting through Chaos

Filed under: Hall Of Relationships — admin @ 7:05 pm

Divorce isn’t merely an end. It’s also a beginning. It’s an opportunity to move beyond the dark place you’ve lived since your separation and into the joyful light of a new life for yourself! Now you can build a strong, supportive environment for yourself and your children - a life that encourages and uplifts all of you. You can do it on your own terms, as a free agent.

You’re on your own and the possibilities are endless. Moving? Possibly. Changing jobs? Why not? Creating an amazing opportunity for your children to travel with you? It’s like a dream come true!

But wait. Your ex says, No!, slamming the door on your plans. There’s the cold splash of reality - your ex may be gone from your marriage…but is far from out of your life. Joint custody and shared custody mean you are still making decisions together. Like it or not.

It’s not easy to work with an uncooperative ex. If your ex is uncaring of your needs, disrespectful to you (especially in front of your children), disregards the rules and values that provide standards and boundaries to your children, or continually tries to manipulate your children into doing things his/her way instead of your way…well, let’s face it, you have a recipe for co-parenting chaos.

Raising an emotionally healthy and happy child is one of our most significant and challenging missions. Even under the most perfect of circumstances with both bio-parents fully present in a loving relationship, there are difficulties that can be ‘testing’. Throw in a divorce and an uncooperative ex-spouse, and you’ve got turmoil. Minor hiccups transform into immovable obstacles.

Remember, the two of you divorced for a reason. It isn’t really realistic to expect an idyllic co-parenting relationship if you couldn’t manage it when you were married. Co-parenting isn’t easy. But, it is possible.

There are techniques you can use to change the dynamic between you and your ex. Once the habitual dynamic is altered, you’ll be able to transform disrespect and bickering into tolerance and negotiation. These seven steps will make it possible for you to build a co-parenting relationship that allows both you and your children to grow in the after-math of your divorce:

  • Acknowledge What Is: Accepting the reality of your situation is the key to moving forward.
  • Let it go: Do yourself the biggest favour you can ever imagine. Forgive your ex. Yes, that’s right. Forgive the %*&$.
  • Step into Your Power: Believe in yourself and the value you bring to the world.
  • Build a new relationship with your “ex”: It’s time to lay down your sword, and declare a truce.
  • Set Your Standards: You are not responsible for your ex’s problems – nor is s/he responsible for yours.
  • Help Your Child(ren) Step into Their Power: How can you help your children make it through these challenging circumstances with their self-esteem and positive attitude intact?
  • Build Rituals: When you develop family rituals, you give your children (and yourself) a sense of continuity.

There’s no doubt about it. It’s not easy to co-parent with someone you’ve divorced. Old baggage is guaranteed to rear its ugly head periodically and when that happens, you just have to deal with it. Building a constructive co-parenting relationship is worth the time and effort. Remember, while you see your ex as “uncooperative”, the other side of the coin may look very similar with you in the “uncooperative” role. That’s ‘what is’. Each of us has a different perspective of the ‘truth’. You can build a positive and cooperative co-parenting relationship if that’s what you want. It takes work, energy and patience. But it can be done. You can’t change ‘what is’ now, but you can work towards building the best possible future for yourself and your children. Divorce isn’t merely an end. It’s also a beginning. Make it a good beginning.

Landscape Plans Resolved

Landscape Plans Created in a New Way

Resolve LLC has created an exciting new way to produce a customized landscape plan for homeowners.
The Old Way
When a homeowner is in need of a landscape plan he usually calls a landscape designer to come to his home for a consultation. Finding a convenient time for both the designer and the homeowner can be hard to do. If both parties can attend the proposed appointment the designer will ask the homeowner what they are looking for in their landscape and the homeowner will try to describe what he’s looking for.
The designer will take notes and measurements of the landscape and then return to his office. He will then proceed to recall the details from the consultation to generate a landscape plan for his client. After he is done he will contact the homeowner again and make an appointment to present his work. When it’s convenient, both parties will meet and the landscape plan is exchanged.
This process takes a week at the least and often takes several weeks because the designer is busy driving all around the region visiting homeowners to attend these consultations and delivering plans.
The Resolve LLC Way
At Resolve LLC the demand for plan has grown so high that we have developed a simpler way of providing quality landscape plans for homeowners. When a homeowner orders a landscape plan from Resolve LLC they are mailed an intake packet with a free camera. The homeowner follows the photo guide provided and takes snapshots of his existing landscape. He then fills out the questionnaire and mails it back with the film. He gets to keep the camera! Within a week the homeowner is sent a beautiful and functional landscape plan based on the information he provided.
This new method of communicating with homeowners to generate the information needed to design landscape plans is revolutionary. What it does is takes the complicated logistics out of what can be a simple and fun process.
A homeowner is not put on the spot when answering questions about his landscape. He can research his answers to the questionnaire or leave it up to the designer. After all that’s what we do best is design.

The borrower must first complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form and submit it to the financial aid. A renewal FAFSA can be completed if the applicant has submitted a FAFSA in the previous year.
The FAFSA can be completed online:
http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/Students/apply/express.html. If the student has already completed a FAFSA or renewal FAFSA for the current school year, he or she should submit a copy of their SIR forms. The Federal Government must receive the FAFSA or renewal FAFSA before any financial aid will be disbursed.

The borrower will then complete and submit the MPN (Stafford Loan
Master Application and Promissory Note) and KSI financial aid application and paperwork. The Financial Aid Officer will counsel the student and determine the loan amount for which he or she is eligible. Once the certified loan amount is set and the borrower has returned the completed Promissory Note, the financial aid office will complete the School Certification Form.

Students will have an Entrance Counseling session to explain all the rights and responsibilities of student loan applicants. Once the student borrower has finished their coursework or withdrawn from the school, any remaining loan funds in the student account will be returned to the Lender.

Students will have an Exit Counseling session to explain repayment responsibilities, options and terms

What to do if you have a problem?

If you have a problem, ask for help. Do not just skip payments. If you run into financial difficulties while paying back your student loans, contact the servicer of your loans and explain the situation. The servicer may be willing to re-negotiate the amount of your monthly installments or offer you a financial hardship forbearance. You may be allowed a short period in which no payments are due, or you may be permitted to make lower than
usual payments for a time.

Internet Business Development Products - What to Look For

Filed under: Marketing + Selling — admin @ 9:47 am

How much is a marketing product worth anyway? How much can you/should you expect to recoup? Logically it would have to be the cost of the product, then a multiple of your current earnings. Here’s an example; let’s say I own a marketing course valued at $200.00 it is from a reputable company with a good track record, I have looked through the material and it looks solid, I would recommend on that alone.

If I work through this course how much additional revenue can I expect to make? It has to be a multiple of my current earnings. If I have no subscriber list and make a dollar a day on AdSense it’s going to be a multiple of this. If I have 1,500 responsive subscribers on my mailing list and make $120.00 dollars a day selling 2 downloadable products, it’s going to be a multiple of this.

Starting your online business from scratch is different from rolling out improvements on an existing business. The scale and effectiveness of your existing business will determine how quickly you recoup, then multiply your investment.

What’s the time frame? Working your way through an 800 page manual will take longer than implementing a JavaScript pop-up to collect new subscriber details.

It is worth setting goals around your implementation of a product then checking your results. Let’s say you expect to work through and implement your marketing course in six weeks and are looking for a 50% net increase, check back, did you make it, did you over or under-estimate, did the product over or under-perform.

Play it again Sam

Some products or their methodologies can be rolled out more than once, some can’t, and it really depends on the nature of the product and your business. Using the marketing course as an example: if the online business is a start-up we might only be able to implement 50% of the material. If there is detailed instruction on how to increase and then utilise your subscriber list and you don’t currently have one, then clearly you can’t implement it. However, second and third time round, you may be implementing these strategies to greater effect.

In the case of the java pop-up example, it will still be a pop-up, nothing is going to change there, but we can split test it and see what is most effective. Change the headline – what happens? Change the body – what happens, change the font, image, each and every element, to see how it affects the results.

Overlooked resources

I subscribe to several free marketing ezines, some are daily, weekly, fortnightly, and some seem completely random. Much of the material is solid advice, but not all of it is acted upon, either due to time constraints or because I’m in “email mode” not creative thinking or business implementation mode.

I know for a fact there is some excellent free material buried deep down in my yahoo account. If this is you then don’t over look these resources. Make a commitment to search all the emails you subscribe to and print them out or collate them in a word document, put them in a ring binder, read through them highlight ideas that stand out.

Something that doesn’t relate right now, may relate down the road, it may be a crucial piece of information later on.

The Same or Different?

When it comes to business development products, there are basically two types:

1) The ones that make you the same as everybody else.

2) The ones that differentiate your business and help it mature, grow and reach its full potential.

Let’s look at the ones that make you the same… these for the most part are software programs that automatically generate web pages, articles, web sites, blogs – with a view to increasing visitors directly, or indirectly by increasing page rank through back-links to your site.

You will generally buy these products and enter your keyword and hey presto (or maybe after a considerable amount of work) your pages are there, just like the other 399 people who own the product and put in the same keyword, (because they get their keywords from the same place as you).

The vendors will often claim that once they reach x number of members or purchasers they will stop selling the product (”The Doors Will be Closed!”) thus the effectiveness of the product “is not diluted”.

Even if this is true, which may be the case, 399 other people creating the exact same pages or articles as you are, more competition than you need. On top of this, many of these products suffer from latent redundancy due to the ever-increasing sophistication of search engines.

A recent example of this is changes at Blogger, which have made several blog spawning programs completely redundant.

Search engines are now using human beings to review pages – you may get your page past a Google bot, but it will take a human being approximately 2 seconds to spot autogenerated content – your site will be dropped from the index like a piece of hot lead on fire. These products may work for a time, and may make you some decent money, but if you want to keep looking over your shoulder or stress ever so slightly each time you log into your AdSense account you might want to rethink.

Interesting that the developers of these products even sell them, maybe THEIR AdSense account is too precious, or they have burnt out the true value of software from their own over use, who can say?

The other type of product is usually a “how to” or info material product or customer facing software. These are usually marketing related and may focus on areas such as product development, customer retention, copy writing or generating and increasing sales. Software might include collecting and managing opt-ins for email marketing or programs for creating secure eBooks.

What they have in common is they help you do more of what you do, they are usually strategic in nature, the software products usually automate some routine but necessary task.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am not moralizing either way, I’m just looking at it from the point of view of someone that wants a sustainable business that is profitable for the long-term and can be built upon.

It is at the end of the day your call.

What to Do Once You Are Infected with Spyware, Ad-ware or Viruses

Filed under: Great Hardware Tips — admin @ 7:45 am

What to do once your PC is infected with spyware, ad-ware or viruses

So you’ve been running a virus program. Or you haven’t. (Check my previous article on keeping your computer at top speed by using Avast). Either way, your PC is now infected by spyware/ad-ware, or even worse, a virus. What DO you do?

The easiest method, is, of course, to format. Should you turn on your PC and the infestation is so bad (and some of them are) you need to format, simply slide a windows xp cd you’ve either bought or burned into your rom drive, re-boot, and go through windows installation. Don’t forget to enter your BIOS/CMOS and change your boot sequence so your cd-rom drive boots before your hard drive.

If you’ve just got a small problem; your computer still runs fine, then you can just clean up your hard drive with any number of programs. There are many out there, but the ones I suggest would be Spybot: Search and Destroy, Lavasoft ad-aware, and Avast Anti-Virus.

All of these programs are free and can be downloaded off download.com . Likely the most user-friendly program would be Avast or Ad-aware. Spybot is a little more of an advanced program. It is still one of the best, but if you have trouble understanding PC problems, you might have troubles understanding how Spybot works. (You could always read the readmes or their forums, however). Microsoft has also released a new program too, which can be downloaded from download.com as well, or whatever your favorite download portal is.

Anyways, once you have one of these programs, start a scan and attempt to remove the infestation. Most of these programs can also schedule a boot time scan. This means your computer will reboot and scan before you load windows. This can help remove most infestations because most spyware/ad-ware/viruses can manifest themselves in windows so well that they cannot be deleted unless you delete them before windows loads or from safe mode.

A boot-time scan is recommended as the first course of action to remove your infestation. Should you continue to experience slower PC speeds, you could try using a virus scanner to not only scan your hard drive, but prevent your PC from getting more spyware. Usually with spyware, once you have even a few files infected, they spread like a virus and attempt to propogate themselves. It’s important you have a virus scanner to not only delete old spyware, but prevent new spyware from popping up. Avast is great for this.

Anyways, good luck and good hunting. Use a format as your last course of action. Besides, it’s good for your PC at least once a year to format. This re-aligns your partition tables and eliminates corruption as well as fragmentation.

Laminate Flooring - Should you Pick Glued Or Click?

Filed under: Home Improvement Center — admin @ 4:12 am

Today’s laminate flooring materials are amazingly easy to install, highly durable and low maintenance in care. They can withstand the wear and tear of feet & things being dragged across their surface, are resistant to most spillage, burns and stains. They are the ideal flooring materials for the 21st century hectic lifestyle.

Stone, tile and hardwood visuals – they all make the decision to select an interesting and difficult process. This is due in part to the vast array of quality designs available.

And now, comes the question: Should you pick glued or click laminate flooring?

Glued installation has long been the standard in laminate flooring. The basic procedure consists of clamping the boards together, so that the excess glue is squeezed out. When you see glue squeezed out, you know you are installing correctly. Glue seeping out is necessary to ensure there are no small gaps that develop between the boards which later on will allow moisture to slip between.

Depending on the manufacturer, glue may be applied to certain portions of the board, only on the groove, tongue, or both spaces.

A buying tip - use the laminate flooring manufacturers’ glue, otherwise your floor’s warranty is void.

Click laminate flooring on the other hand, works on the locking system principle where each plank locks, hooks, or snaps the tongue and the groove to another to install the floor in place. It’s easy enough to do, as long as you take time to carefully read and follow the instructions.

You might want to consider the value found in installing click laminate flooring if:

You are new at installing flooring material.

Plan to use the flooring for small spaces.

Don’t have a budget for a professional installer or have the time to install it yourself.

Have the need to immediately use the area for walking.

With glued laminate flooring, you’ll need to partition off the area to allow the glue time to harden, which depending on the manufacturer’s glue can between 12-30 hours before the floor can be used.

Another consideration for installation of glued laminate flooring requires that the installer use straps so the joints remain tight. The installer will also have to constantly check that the design is straight and that the planks remain in the correct position until they have dried.

With the click laminate flooring’s locking system on the other hand, you’ll immediately know if you’ve locked it incorrectly. This is because the planks won’t come together nice and cleanly. The locking system eliminates the need to constantly check if you are installing a crooked design or that you’ll create gaps where moisture or spillage can seep through. Nor will you need to use straps.

A tip to a better locking system is to consider manufacturers who offer click laminate flooring materials that have a tolerance of 1/10,000 of an inch, per plank.

What about maintenance and repair?

The better laminate flooring systems, whether glued or click, use superior technology that coats the planks, so that moisture doesn’t seep into the core. You can expect repairs to be minimal.

However, when the time to repair does happen, expect to spend more when it comes to repairing glued laminate flooring. Especially if you don’t have a router bit. This piece of equipment is used to cut out the damaged portion, to create new tongues and grooves.

If you are experienced with replacing damaged planks, then it won’t be a problem, but what if the plank is crooked, or incorrectly cut? Repetition will cost you more.

Paying a professional installer makes more sense. However, be prepared to pay upwards of $200.00 and more for the job.

With click laminate flooring, all you need to do is identify the damaged planks, unlock these from the rest, replace and then reinstall. It’s as easy to repair as it is to maintain.

A final appealing option to consider with no-glue laminate flooring. You can simply uninstall the floor and bring it with you to your next home.

So which way should you go? Glued or click laminate flooring material?

Consider these three concerns as a gauge to buying.

What’s your lifestyle? And can your budget accommodate the added expense of a professional installer?

Is the design you like found in both formulations? Look around because there are many more manufacturers now which offer the same design in glued or click floor materials.

While a wise buyer considers pricing to be important, it isn’t the over riding concern. Laminate flooring materials will show the cumulative effects of scratching. So select a product which offers a warranty of up to 15 years, scratch free life.

And you’ll enjoy the appeal and value of low-maintenance laminate flooring throughout your home. Whether it be glued or click.

My name is Jason Ashby and i have 21 years experiance in the flooring trade. First starting out as a flooring installer then progressing into training people in all aspects of flooring.
