A true NO ZZZZZs presenter doesn’t feel that he or she must jabber away constantly to keep the audience awake. Skilled presenters use silence to add to the effectiveness and polish of a program. Theatrical folks have identified a whole bunch of neat pauses which I’m sure they have a ball playing with. I’m only going to address some of the most obvious and important ones here.

Short

The shortest pauses, which last anywhere from one-half to two seconds, are for the simple purpose of separating your thoughts. All you have to remember is to slow down. Give the audience a fighting chance to absorb what you are saying. Change your voice inflection slightly at the end of each thought to cue the audience the next thought is coming. Also, use a short pause before and after any phrase or word you want to emphasize. (Refer to ‘How to Deliver a Punch Line’ article,
for reference.)

Spontaneity

Another neat pause is known as a spontaneity pause. This is a planned ‘unplanned’ pause used so that you don’t look too rehearsed. You might apply this pause when you want to pretend to search for a word or phrase that you already know.

Long

Long pauses of more than three seconds are very powerful. They command the audience to think about what you just said, that is if what you just said was worth thinking about.

Please[pause][pause][pause] don’t be afraid to be quiet once in a while. It can dramatically increase your impact.

Well, I suppose we should all be “happier than a pig in a poke”. Why? This year marks the first time a man-made object has landed on Mars. Let’s see, at last count there were at least two charming little robots (from the Land of Stars and Stripes naturally) putzing about the surface of the “Red Planet”.

And, if I’m not mistaken, Mars is also home to some space junk including two deader-than-a-doornail non-entities (hailing from somewhere that shall remain nameless). At last report, the Dudley-Do-Little-Devices crash-landed who knows where on the Red Planet.

Since we haven’t located the “Lost and Found” on Mars yet, we haven’t got a clue if the devices are lost or whether they’re just hiding. Since no Martians turned up to greet us let alone give us the coordinates of the Lost & Found, the voyageurs from Earth have been caught between a rock and a hard place as it were. Okay, so maybe the Martians were busy the day we arrived, or possibly they lost their maps to the Lost & Found. Oh well, no matter, who cares … onto more pressing news.

After the first televised glimpse of the Mars landscape, my mind began to ponder and then it wandered off on a very long tangent. That often happens when it’s been a slow news day, a sluggish news week or sometimes even a slothful news month.

I don’t know about you, but frankly I got a tad bored looking at red rocks (on the bottom of a crater floor), more rusty rocks (on the frigging flatlands) and a black void of nothingness as far as the eye could see. Let’s face it… unless you’re really into red rocks, there’s not a whole lot going for for Mars.

So, where’s the “Red Dwarf”? That’s what I want to know. After all, why did man set out on this galactic adventure if he didn’t have a mission to find the little fellow. (Shy you say, well I’d say he’s probably just tucked away somewhere in this color-coordinated place …you would think.)

After pondering and even more pondering (because I had nothing pressing on my “to-do” list), I began to think of things you might find on Mars. The list was incredibly short. So I came up with something better, “things you probably won’t find on Mars”.

Here are a few things I came up with in the ten minutes allocated to this priority task, (ranked no. 13 on my “to-do” list today). Now remember, it’s neither a definitive nor an exhaustive list…but it’s a good first attempt.

By the way, feel free to add to my list if you want. After all, it’s not like there’s someone out there with a franchise on the truth who’s going to tell you, you’re wrong. Trust me on this one! Just toss your togs and your thinking cap along with your blessed beliefs. Now listen up… join the other tots in the sandbox…wiggle your toes … and let go your nightmares for pete’s sake!

** Waterclosets, Loos and Tinkle-Pantries. (Since there’s no H2O here to make them work, there’s not a lot of demand for them. The bad news is visitors will have to wear bloopy space suits equipped with compact wonder-waste baggies around their navels. So, suck it up all you Trekkies! Oh, and by the way, who said Mars was a five-star destination resort anyway?)

** Spinach, beans, and green garbage bags. (That means you won’t find Popeye, the Jolly Green Giant or the Man from Glad. Now isn’t that a relief!)

** Wal-Mart, Home-Depot, and the Golden Arches. (They’re still scrapping over who gets to play “King of the Castle” back on Earth and besides, they really don’t give a sweet tweet about a vertically-challenged dude named “Red Dwarf” or a bunch of red rocks for that matter.)

**Trees. (Okay, so there’s no low-hanging fruit let alone a place for money to grow on. Not good news for award-winning fruitcake-makers or whackers of the world who want to chop things down and make stuff like toothpicks, chopsticks and ready-to-assemble doll-house furniture.)

**Monarchs, Misfits and Mystics. (Without throne rooms, monarchs won’t have a place to sit upon; no bars or slot machines means that hustlers and lounge lizards won’t have a place to meet and greet; and in the absence of live bait, mystics won’t be able to win friends and influence lost souls. Sometimes life just sucks, especially if one lives on Mars!)

**Perfectly Normal Beasts. (Large, spotted, charging sort of succulent, sweet-flavored, tender hoofed animals that are safe to skewer over a barbecue; a cross between a cow, a bull and a kind of buffalo — only hairless, you know the ones that gallump and grovel about on the back nine in the springtime and then disappear into the sunset in the fall. Don’t ask me why they do that, they just do.)

** Women from Venus. (Without any men on Mars, there’s not a hope in hell that any women from Venus would be dumb enough to waste a trip to a pathetic planet full of red rocks ruled by a duffus named “Red Dwarf”.)

Even light exercise is good for you, so don’t get discouraged!

The most important thing to remember about exercise is that you should pick something you enjoy doing first, and then worry about whether or not it’s the best exercise for you later.

The biggest mistake that most people make when they start an exercise routine is the choice of exercise. Most people start out excited, and they pick a really hard exercise routine to start out. They also tend to pick the type of exercise that is recommended to them, instead of one that they enjoy.

The upshot of this approach is that people lose momentum, begin to hate their exercise routine and eventually quit altogether.

It is impossible to overstress how important it is to avoid doing this. An exercise routine you enjoy doing and completing is invaluable starting out. A little exercise can make a difference in your health and fitness, countless studies have shown that people who only get one hour walking a week have better health than those who get no exercise at all.

Once you get into the swing of your routine you will probaly want to step up its intensity somewhat, but ensure you don’t fall into the old trap of stepping it up too much. Say you enjoy riding a bike and you cycle a short distance every second evening, once you become used to this you will find you are able to cycle further, quicker and for longer. At that point the best plan is to stretch your routine to encompass your greater abilites, retaining a challenge when you go cycling.

If you feel you are well settled into an exercise program, then to advance you should begin to expand it. If, for example, you walk a certain distance three times a week, aim to walk it four or even five times a week, or maybe increase the distance you walk so as to maintain the challenge.

Try to vary your exercise also, this will help avoid boredom. If you become bored doing your exercise then you will begin to get sick of it. So liven it up by doing different exercises.

An exercise routine which trains all of your body is obviously a good one, so maybe you should look into getting a membership in a local gym or perhaps buying a body workout machine for your home. By getting a total body workout your whole body will feel, and look, better.

Don’t allow yourself to get discouraged; you won’t always be in the mood to exercise. If you don’t feel like exercising, then just take that day off. There is no harm in missing a day’s exercise here and there, in fact it can help you prevent become burned out. Just try to ensure the day off doesn’t become a permanent break.

Even if you end up not exercising for so long that you get out of your routine, that is no reason to give up. Just start exercising again - no matter how much or how little exercise you do, it will always benefit you. Whether you’re looking to continue or change your current exercise routine, or you’re just starting to exercise again, good luck!

The goal of a trade should be to at least try to get better. But these two teams had something else in mind. First with Toronto: Jalen Rose was highly paid and probably overpaid. But he could get you 20 points a night. However the Raptors didn’t keep that in mind when they traded for Antonio Davis, who is just fractions away from retirement. I can understand wanting to get rid of some payroll, but to go so far as to actually include a draft pick is nothing less than absurd.

Now to Isaiah Thomas: I remember when Scott Layden was fired and thought that the Knicks would in fact be better. However Thomas must be related to Layden because he has carried on his legacy of being the worst GM in the NBA.

The Knicks are the least away from success in the whole League and not just because they are the worst NBA team. See, the problem is this team is almost decent. That’s not good, not when you have to pay over $70 million to players. So they’re bad enough to be a lottery team but not so awful that they will get a high draft pick. And since they can’t dump all their salaries rebuilding becomes nearly impossible. It’s a cycle that the Warriors and Clippers have been on for the past decade.

If you read about investing, you’ve seen the word forex pop up.
But because forex doesn’t get much publicity in the major
publications and websites, many investors don’t know that forex
is just short for “foreign exchange.” So trading the forex
market is simply trading foreign currencies. As recently as ten
years ago, currency trading had high barriers to entry, so only

Dollars, you could then convert those Pounds back into dollars
for, say, $120.

Unlike the domestic stock markets, the forex is open for trades
24 hours a day. Much like the phrase “it’s always noon
somewhere,” it’s always business hours at some region of the
globe. Since every country trades on the FX market, and it’s
open all day, the daily volume is roughly $1.2 trillion, which
dwarfs that of the NYSE. Another comparison to make in order to
truly realize the magnitude of the forex market is with the
currency futures market (which has around 1% of the daily
volume).

One other important distinction to make is that currency trading
is not centered on an exchange like the NYSE or NASDAQ. There is
no central body or organization required to act as middleman.
Trading circulates between major banking centers around the
world.

Until recently, there were strict financial requirements and
massive minimum transaction sizes which prevented individual
investors from trading. But with the advent of the internet came
the FX brokers. A forex broker is similar to an online stock
trading account such as etrade. Anybody can open an account and
buy and sell in any quantity. Because the brokers have thousands
of investors placing orders through them, they are able to meet
the large minimum transaction size by purchasing in large blocks
and distributing currency amongst the purchasing investors.

Although it is now easy to start trading forex, it is a
complicated and complex market. While it offers fantastic
opportunity for wealth, it is also very easy to lose your shirt
in a hurry. Before trading forex, do your homework and read as
much as you can find before investing your hard earned money.
