Aromatherapy - a World of Frangrance

Filed under: Medical Resources — admin @ 10:08 pm

The ancient Egyptians used aromatherapy thousands of years ago. Aromatherapy, a word that derives from ‘aroma’ meaning fragrance or smell and ‘therapy’ meaning treatment is based on an ancient principle that the spirit and the body should be in harmony. Hippocrates claimed that the secret to good health was to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage each day.

Aromatherapy, the healing art of using essential oils extracted from aromatic plants for therapeutic purposes is enjoying a modern-day revival. Extracted from fruit, flowers and tress, blends of these essentials oils can be incorporated for their healing properties and create a particular aroma.

Each essential oil used in Aromatherapy can be used either alone or in combination with other oils to promote health and a sense of emotional well-being. A full Aromatherapy treatment combines the beneficial properties of essential oils with a warm relaxing massage.

While essential oils are considered to be safe to use, they are very powerful, highly concentrated substances which should be treated with a great deal of respect.

Some of the most common essential oils and their effects:

Chamomile: Soothing and harmonizing

Clove: Warming
Fennel: Clearing

Eucalyptus: Balancing and stimulating
Grapefruit: Refreshing

Jasmine: Soothing
Lavender: Calming and healing
Lemon: Cleansing and stimulating
Orange: Calming and energizing

Before beginning any Aromatherapy treatment, it is important to understand how each essential oil works. Do not use any oil that you are not familiar with. Certain oils should not be used during pregnancy or when breast feeding. Consult your local professional for advise on which Aromatherapy treatment best suits your needs.

Peterbilt Trucks: The Birth of a Legend

Filed under: Cars, Trucks, USVs — admin @ 7:02 pm

T.A. Peterman had an inner passion: trucks. Despite this fact
there was a time when he felt that he couldnt find a truck of
his liking and thats when he decided to build his own truck.

In 1939 he acquired the Fageol Truck and Coach Factory. Peterman
wanted to have a place where he could modify old trucks at his
will and this plant served his purpose. He began to envision the
standard that he wanted for his trucks, with this concept in
mind he built a truck with the best quality ever seen.

His design began to give him a reputation. He kept manufacturing
trucks and branded them Peterbilt (name of a line of wooden
doors that one of his companies manufactured).

During World War II, T.A. decided to pursue government contracts
for heavy duty trucks instead of assembling combat vehicles.
Unfortunately T.A. Peterman died from cancer after the War. Ida,
his widow took care of his business affairs.

The direction of the company took a different turn in 1946 when
five of the companys main employees and outside investors
purchased Peterbilt Motors from Ida Peterman for $450 000.

L.A. Lundstrum was named President of Peterbilt Motors and their
development continued; by 1947 their income surpassed $4 500 000
while trucks were manufactured on a daily basis.

Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR) acquired Peterbilt
Motors in 1958 as an unincorporated division.

Today T.A. Petermans dream is more alive than ever, Peterbilt
continues to progress as new challenges lie ahead. The company
maintains Petermans original vision: the manufacture of high
quality, innovative heavy duty trucks that surpass customer
needs and expectations.

Seven Beauty Secrets

Filed under: Gender Issues Info — admin @ 11:40 am

SEVEN STEPS TO A BEAUTIFUL SKIN:

1. Cleanse the face only once a day in the evenings - excessive cleaning disturbs the pH balance of the skin. Rinse the face in the morning with clean water and a dash of Rooibos tea which is rich in antioxidants

2. Press creams onto the skin – do not massage – this is more economical, the cream is applied evenly and the skin is not stretched

3. Apply moisturiser often during the day - even over make-up

4. Sun Block forms part of the daily skincare routine. It protects not only against the sun but also against the dehydrating effect of the wind, air conditioning, cold weather and radiators

5. Apply Toner or Freshener after creams have been applied so that the skin can absorb the nutrients from the creams before the pores are closed

6. Foundation should form part of the skincare routine. It helps to prevent dehydration of the skin

7. Use powder sparingly as some powders can dry out the skin

Container Gardening: Urban Alternative for Plant Lovers

Filed under: World Of Gardening — admin @ 10:27 am

Gardening fanatics, with no space for a garden, like apartment
dwellers and those in shared housing, can be assured gardening
is not inevitably gone from their lives. You can always build a
container garden on a balcony, patio, deck, or sunny window. Not
only the joy of flowers but vegetables and some fruits can be
grown. You can raise perennials, annuals, and even shrubs and
small trees all in a container.

Container gardening can present it’s own set of challenges. It
requires proper planning just like any other kind of gardening.
You’ll need to find your USDA zone (to identify plants suitable
for your zone), see how much daylight you get in your apartment
or balcony, and from there you can select the best plant
variety.

When buying plants be prudent and choose ones with a healthy
appearance and good natural shape. Trunks should be straight.
Stay away from plants with twisted, slanted or deformed stems,
which can affect the healthy growth of a plant. Try to buy your
plants from the local nursery unless you have the right
conditions to raise seedlings indoors.

For your container, glazed ceramic pots with drainage holes are
a good choice. Terracotta pots are nice looking, true, but dry
out quickly and leave your plants without moisture. Wooden
containers are good, but can be susceptible to rot. Cedar and
redwood are fairly rot resistant and make nice containers but
make sure the wood is not treated with creosote or other toxic
materials that can damage the plants.

Although you in general don’t want to keep your container garden
plants outside when the temperature dips below 45° F, there are
plants that are frost resistant for colder climates. Eulalia
grasses, Mexican feather grass, Cornflowers, Lavender cottons,
Jasmine, Million bells, and Stonecrops, stand up to the frost
well.

If you follow these few suggestions you will be off to a good
start with your new minature garden creation.

Google’s AdSense Program: How You Can Make Money JUST By Writing About A Topic You Love

Filed under: Plugs — admin @ 10:08 am

Many people wonder how on earth they could earn money if they ran their own web site but didn’t actually *sell* anything. If you have no products or services to sell then where does the money come from?

Well the answer is that you can make money in lots of ways when you run a web site - and **selling products and/or services** is not only just one option but also one of the most labour-intensive options, at least if the products are not electronic (i.e. if they are hard goods or services).

The problem is that many people stick to what they know - bricks ‘n’ mortar - high street shops who sell products that you can hold and feel, or professionals (such as accountants or lawyers) who sell their services.

It’s plain to see where the money comes from there: from the products and services on offer!

But does that mean that YOU have to have products or services to sell if you want to make your own money online?

No!

The Internet offers so many more ways in which you can make money!

—— SIDE NOTE ——

For an explanation of some of the different ways you can earn money online visit:

http://www.sleepydust.net/different-ways-you-can-make-money.html

—— SIDE NOTE ——

And one of the easiest yet effective ways of earning money online is by using Google’s ‘AdSense’ program as one of the income-generators for your web site.

But what exactly is ‘AdSense’?

Well AdSense is an advertising program with a difference and it has virtually taken the Internet and small web site owners by storm…

If you have your own web site and join the free ‘AdSense’ program, Google gives you a code that you simply cut and paste into your web pages. You can put the code into as many of your web pages as you want but obviously the more pages in which you place the code, the more likely you are to earn *more* money and here’s why…

Every time a visitor visits a page on which you have pasted your AdSense code a few small text adverts appear.

Google’s clever AdSense technology will automatically display adverts that are relevant to your topic. So if your web site is all about quilting, the adverts will be related to quilting. If it’s about parenting, the adverts will be related to parenting, and so on.

‘Where do these adverts come from?’ I hear you ask.

Well there are lots of people and busineses out there who want to promote their web sites, products or services, so they pay Google every time someone clicks on their advert.

Now here’s the good part…

If a visitor clicks on any of the Google ‘AdSense’ adverts on your web page - you get money!

This is such an eye-opening way to monetize that I’m going to repeat it:

If a visitor just CLICKS on any of the Google AdSense adverts on your web page - GOOGLE PAYS YOU MONEY!!!

That’s right! The visitor doesn’t even need to BUY anything from the advertiser! All they need to do is click on one of the adverts on your web page and Google pays you!

So Google’s ‘AdSense’ program means that you really CAN earn money *just by attracting visitors* to your web site.

‘MY web site?’ I hear you quiver.

Yes YOUR web site!

Millions of web masters the world over create and run their own web sites. Even high school drop outs can do it - in fact many ARE doing it and are making a good living from it!

Heck, even young teenagers are doing it. A 14 year old Canadian girl started her own web site about her family’s favorite vacation spot (Anguilla) a couple of years ago. Two years on she now earns thousands of dollars, part of which come from Google’s AdSense program!

And it’s not expensive to run your own web site either. In fact you can do it without spending ANY money whatsoever if you really want to (although there are drawbacks).

—— SIDE NOTE ——

To find out why running a web site is easier than you
might think, visit:

http://www.sleepydust.net/running-your-own-website-is-easier-thank-you-think.html

—— SIDE NOTE ——

Google’s AdSense is great news for small web site owners - and YOU can become one of them.

All you need to do is write content on a topic that you know about and love - whether that’s based on experience, hobbies, interests, passions, or on a past job.

You know SOMETHING about SOMETHING - everybody does, qualifications or not. And that knowledge and/or passion can attract visitors. And with Google’s ‘AdSense’ program ‘visitors’…

… means ‘clicks’…

… means money!

Famous celebrities who have chosen the lush backdrop of palms and fountains in Gibraltar for their Wedding Day have included John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Sean Connery (married twice here!) and Roger Moore. Further 007 connections include the filming of ‘Living Daylights’ starring Timothy Dalton on The Rock itself.

Tough Times Demand Resilient Leaders

Filed under: Management Portal — admin @ 1:45 am

The stock market gyrates with unpredictable and heartburning results. Icons of solid companies become straw figures before balance sheets. Children are abducted from their front yards and networks of terrorists spiral throughout the world. Religious institutions cast shadows of duplicity while El Nino brings strange fish to the California coasts and out-of-control fires head toward ancient Sequoias.

Tough times. It’s enough to cause all of us to stand like the proverbial “deer in headlights”, mutter “the sky is falling”, or else spring into action. The latter would be fine but it’s often a knee-jerk response based on what we’ve done in the past. Trouble is that the present doesn’t look like the immediate past.

Whether you’re leading a Fortune 100 company, a small department, or an enterprise of one, now is the time to hone your resiliency skills. But first, let’s update the definition of “resilient”. In 1824, Webster defined it as: “the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress.”

That definition works for explaining metal but not for the mettle of the human system. Consider this: The compressive stress to an organizational body can be the result of bloating mergers. Mergers now meet mania and layoffs distort the workloads and customer care. If this is the case, the resilient organization must carefully think what size and shape will serve it for the long haul. Recovering its size and shape might be the worst thing!

At the risk of insulting Webster, I define resiliency as ” the capacity to cultivate strengths to positively meet the challenges of living; the ability to bounce back from adversity while maintaining personal and corporate integrity.”

Some key resilient strengths are found in using HOPE as an acronym:

  • Head talk and Heart walk.

  • Optimism.

  • Purpose, passion and persistence.

  • Energy and Enjoyment.

Head talk asks that we critically explore our thinking process. Are we stuck in out-moded patterns of behaviors that no longer serve us? What assumptions are we making and what actions can we take if the assumptions are confirmed? What resources can we call upon? How have we nurtured our relationships and support network? Are we being truly HONEST with ourselves about our own fears? What voices do we need to listen to-even if we don’t want to?

Heart walk is truth in action. It means we keep our word. Trust is the password of our time. It is also the cornerstone of relationships. Since an inability to get along is the single biggest reason for failure, heart walk builds relationships through connecting at more than cerebral levels.

Optimism arises from our anticipation of a positive outcome as well as our ability to help produce that outcome. Dr. Martin Seligman’s decades-long research indicates that optimism can be learned by listening carefully to our internal dialogue and challenging negative beliefs. Learned Optimism is a book that should be on everyone’s reading list.

Purpose, passion and persistence work like a three-legged stool in holding up a resilient leader. Purpose implies that you have a reason for being on this earth and it is not “all about you”. Since the odds of a human egg being fertilized are 220 trillion to one, you are NOT a mistake.

If purpose is the “why” you are here, passion is the “what”. It’s that activity that gets your juices flowing. Somehow, somewhere it must be in your life. Find a way to put it there and then persist in the doing. Pablo Casals knew he was put on earth for music. His passion was the cello. Even severely crippled with arthritis, his resilient spirit persisted through the pain and he played like an angel.

Energy and enjoyment spark up the human engine. In complex time, our energy sources need to be renewed and refreshed. Sleep, exercise, solitude, and meditation pump the exhausted spirit with the octane of resiliency. Play and laughter are birthrights of the human spirit. Laughter is the canary of hope. If the laughter has died, so too has your resiliency. Lighten up. Find what’s zany about life. Watch children at play. Don’t take life so seriously-you won’t get out of it alive.

Philosopher Howard Zinn wrote that to have hope, one doesn’t need certainty, only possibility. In an upside down world-there are lots of possibilities for positive change and growth. Let H.O.P.E. support YOUR resilient spirit.
