Get Your ZZZZZZ’s Naturally

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Insomnia – according to the dictionary is a chronic inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time. We’ve all experienced this at least sometime in our lives. Insomnia becomes a problem for me when I have too much on my mind so I can’t shut the brain off allowing my body to fall asleep. I keep telling myself that at least getting some rest is good, but who am I kidding. Sometimes I make the mistake of having too much caffeine late at night. I am one of these people that needs at least 7 hours of sleep a night; otherwise I will feel moody, listless, lethargic and just crappy in general. Life is a lot prettier when I am awake to see it.

On a much more serious note, insomnia can cause a breakdown of the immune system, car accidents and even industrial accidents. Billions are lost each year in the workplace from people being absent. I believe in alternatives when it comes to my health. I have never taken sleeping pills from a doctor and I won’t take over the counter sleep aids either. I don’t believe in putting those kinds of pills in my body. I search for other natural aids for relaxing and falling asleep when needed.

Old wives tales are out there regarding sleeping, but the glass of hot milk or a dish of cottage cheese really can assist you with sleep. There is an amino acid in milk that the body converts to a sleep enhancer in the brain. If you don’t do dairy, try a small snack of soy nuts, chicken, turkey, or pumpkinseed inducing the hormone melatonin. You know how you feel after a Thanksgiving dinner, you can blame the turkey. Supposedly, melatonin supplements will not interfere with sleep quality, memory, or next day performance the way that pills do. It also won’t lose its effectiveness in the long run. If you wish, take a melatonin supplement before you go to bed and see if this helps you. You might also try high carbs or bread which produces serotonin in the body. This hormone also relaxes and reduces anxiety. Vitamin B and magnesium assist with sleep as well. Herbs such as valerian are popular in Europe and available in health stores. Valerian improves sleep without causing a hangover effect. Just steep about 300-400 mg of the valerian root in hot water for tea 30 minutes before bedtime. Other popular herbs you might try are skullcap, passion flower, California poppy, and lemon balm. My vote would be to ingest any of those things instead of the sleeping pills. Remember, melatonin and serotonin are hormones and they can sometimes become complicated.

In Feng Shui - the Chinese art of placement; it is taught that changing your bedroom can assist with sleep. Take the television out of the bedroom because it can be like a big “eye” staring at you in the night. That is a little disconcerting don’t you think? If you don’t want to remove it, at least cover it up before you retire. Watching only bad news before you sleep isn’t good either. Try turning the station and see if that helps get you more relaxed for sleep. Bright digital alarm clocks aren’t good right by your head because of the light as well as the EMF’s the electric appliances produce. If you bring a lot of work from the office into the bedroom you are asking for troubled sleep. Too much on your mind does not allow for relaxation. Are there a lot of books around your head? If you read a mystery or thriller at night, it isn’t the best for relaxing and being calm at bedtime. Remove the books or read only calming things at night. Make sure your bed is positioned so that you face the door. You want to easily see who is coming into that door so you will feel less vulnerable. If you have a ceiling fan above the bed, you might think about removing it because those blades aren’t the best thing to have positioned above the bed as you sleep. Logically you know it won’t hurt you, but subliminally it could be keeping you awake.

If your bedroom feels good by the changes you have made, go the extra step and bring fragrance into the room at night. Use aromatherapy and essential oils for a calming experience. You can start with some relaxing scents in a bath. Some of the relaxing oils are: lavender; especially good for sleep, cedarwood, clary sage, neroli, marjoram sweet, palmarosa, patchouli, rose, vanilla, ylang ylang, vetiver, jasmine, bergamot, and all of the camomiles. Pick one up at your health food store and see what you think. If nightly baths aren’t your thing, experiment with mixing the oils and a little water. Spray them into the room and around you before you sleep at night. Place a little oil on a cloth and keep it beside your pillow. Essential oils can stain fabric so don’t put them directly on your pillowcases. I know from experience that a little lavender on a cloth placed by a child’s pillow immediately calms and relaxes the little one that is reluctant to fall asleep.

Taking care of insomnia shouldn’t mean popping sleeping pills for a quick fix. There is the occasional need to assist the body with falling asleep, and try not to fall into the trap of what the commercials tell you and experiment with some easy natural ways to get those ZZZZZ’s.

Call no man Father

Call no man Father by Anthony Smith

Matthew 23:5-23:10

Call no man Father A look at deception and Consequences. The
institution of the Christian religion was and is still based on
the words of Jesus and the Holy Spirit directing men to put
forth laws and statutes that are pleasing to the Father. Many
have taken this law of Our Father in Heaven and made it to none
effect upon this earth to millions. Some times men will say,
“Its all in the interpretation.” But where in the Bible is it
stated that, the Scripture is only open to private
interpretation? This is a deception and misleading statement. In
Matthew 23:5 we see Jesus rebuking the leadership of the Church
for Vanity, lets read; Matthew 23:5-10 But all their works they
do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries,
and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the
uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the
synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of
men, Rabbi, Rabbi. The stability of the House of Israel was not
upon the minds of the religious leadership at this time. Leaders
were trying, as is today, to enlarge their influence upon the
congregations. Making laws and rules and changing the truth of
the word of God into a lie. Not stopping for a moment to see the
damage that they have done neither repenting of it. These men as
some are today, cannot see clearly neither can they see any
farther than their own ambition. Wanting to make a name for
themselves in the annals of history, but what they fail to
understand, history will neither remember them nor will any of
the saints of God. Ask yourself a question, Why Did Jesus come
to this earth? What was so important that He gave up, Glory for
abuse, a mansion for a rock, Golden Garments for Rags, Honor for
Dishonor? John 8:45-49 And because I tell you the truth, ye
believe me not. How many have been put down because they have
told the truth? Mankind has gotten to the point that they would
rather believe a lie instead of believing the truth. Mans truth
is short lived and it is cankerous and moth eaten. Which of you
convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not
believe me? Why wont they believe the truth, message after
message from the Word of God and many still reject the truth.
Man has stated;” We have developed a Roadmap to Peace in the
Middle East.” The facts state; U.S. Consulate in Saudi Arabia
hit An attack on the U.S. consulate in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia,
left five non-American staff, four police and three extremists
dead, U.S. and Saudi officials said after the three-hour long
battle. Suit against military policy on Gays, Gunfights rage in
Baghdad streets. After escaping from the PA prison several
months ago, Kamil returned to the Jenin region and significantly
increased his involvement in Islamic Jihad activity. Kamil is
responsible for both executing and directing explosive device
attacks and shooting attacks against Israeli security forces
operating in the Kabatya region. Kamil recruited a vast number
of operatives to the Islamic Jihad infrastructure in the Jenin
region. Even after this man still calls others father. What have
they done, have they delivered any from sin, have they saved a
single soul, have they created anything from nothing, have they
caused man to be at peace with each other, NO. They can do
nothing. And what about them hearing the truth, Jesus said; He
that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not,
because ye are not of God. This was a harsh statement wasn’t it,
but does this statement from Christ still hold true today? The
answer is yes. Everything Jesus said and did was from the True
Father in Heaven and not a man made doctrine of human
fatherhood. Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we
not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? {This was
an example of Blaspheme of the Holy Ghost} Jesus answered, I
have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour
me. {Mat 23:12-13 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be
abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. But
woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up
the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in
yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.}
[ABA’SED, pp. Reduced to a low state, humbled, degraded.] Jesus
in this verse declares the state of the Priest and others that
dared to exalt themselves above the level of servant to the
people. Jesus stated that, he came to serve and not to be
served. These last few verses are the most ignored verses in
Scripture, Lets read;

“But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even
Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father
upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even
Christ.” Commandments from Jesus. Mark 7:7 Howbeit in vain do
they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for
doctrines the commandments of men. John 14:15 If ye love me,
keep my commandments. Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why
callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God:
but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. If this
were not important to the association of man to God, Jesus would
not have stated these commandments. Our relationship with The
Father is based upon our acceptance of Him as, Father,
Counselor, Teacher, King, Master, and Almighty God. But when we
put man at the same level as God then there is a breakdown in
our relationship with God. “Howbeit in vain” ” But in vain’ they
do worship me! Is your worship of God in vain, does he hear your
prayers and petitions or does He turn His back to a adulterous
and gainsaying person? Are you calling a man Holy Father, who
can neither answer prayers nor forgive sin? {But woe unto you,
scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of
heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither
suffer ye them that are entering to go in.} these men were
destined for Hell, are you? Its time to think and search the
scriptures, its time to hear the truth before its too late.

Katrina Questions - Anyone Got Answers?

Friday, September 21st, 2007

My wife and me came back from our house in Arabi, St Bernard
Louisiana today. The water line was three inches from the
ceiling. We brought a u-haul 5×8 trailer with us but went back
to where we are staying with it ninety percent empty…there was
nothing to save.

I wrote a very positive article about the responses to Katrina
for http://ezinearticles.com Entitled “New Orleans My Home -
Katrina My Nightmare” and another article “Katrina What It Is
Like To Be An Evacuee” In both articles I endeavored to stay on
the upside and we aren’t complaining to anyone but today was the
straw that broke…etc

Everyone it seems, has an answer for who is to blame or who to
call for help or how to deal with your insurance company. But I
wonder if anybody is really asking the right questions! As
evacuees, as victims of Katrina we have our own set of
questions. They are not a product of bitterness but of pure
frustration and at times exhaustion. Anyone may answer these
questions since the people or agencies we are dealing with have
not…so far.

Here is just a short list of our questions. The long list would
overwhelm you.

Why has my wife been dialing Red Cross for five days only to
hear someone say she should keep trying but all the lines are
busy. Then a recording says we are going to hang up now, and
they do!

Where are the 40,000 volunteers said to be helping the Red Cross
when we call them?

What does Red Cross do exactly with the billions of dollars it
collects in times like these? Have they thought of contacting
some of the giant telecommunications companies that boast so
often about their ability to connect the whole world? But would
these giant companies actually answer the phone?

Has anyone of the agencies helping people in shelters considered
that giving people food, water and a blow up mattress for the
next few months contributes nothing to their starting a new life.

Do insurance companies that are already trying to find ways out
of paying for losses have a legal right to do this? Is it
decent? Is it moral? If they file for bankruptcy do they know
that under the new bankruptcy laws they must still pay after
they re-organize? Would they, or the banks let us pay after we
re-organize or would the insurance cancellation warnings come in
the mail as usual?

Do the national guard soldiers that were standing by as we
entered our neighborhood assuring us that all was safe and
secure realize that it is a little to late for safe and secure?
Does a pile of rubble need to be secured?

Have all the warnings about those who are committing fraud when
it pertains to being a legitimate Red Cross site or collection
point sufficiently scared away what might amount to thousands of
donors. What ever happened to check it, then give. Is “it might
be fraudulent” the new excuse for indifference.

Is there something wrong with helping an individual or a family.
Is it just as conscience soothing to dump big checks into big
organizations as to actually help a real person, one with a name
and not just a social security number.

Does FEMA really expect people to return from places they have
gone to for refuge, some that are hundreds or thousands of miles
away from the Gulf coast area to keep an appointment with them
to see their house? Is there even a child in America that
doesn’t know that these houses have been photographed sitting in
ten feet of water for the past ten days? Could one of these
children please call FEMA and let them know? Oh, I forgot it
took my wife over five hundred attempts to reach FEMA before she
got through. The result is now the familiar “hurry up and wait.”

Will America with its worldwide reputation for its short
attention span and its penchant for the pop culture, hottest
item, latest news mentality really carry this thing through.
Will interest wane before the water is dry?

President Bush said, “New Orleans will rise again.” But
infrastructure and Superdomes do not a city make. A city is
people. How can we help people? How do you help people?
