I was never much of an athlete growing up. Notoriously clumsy, I was ostracized by our school volleyball and basketball teams. Nevertheless, there was one sport in which I excelled - running. Year after year I won top prizes at school track meets.
Characteristics of successful runners are similar to those that empower us to achieve our life goals. Reaching your purpose is like running a marathon. The race is different for each of us, for it represents our unique destiny.
But though we run different races, the same attributes are required for winning. The Bible says, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb.12: 1-2).
I periodically evaluate my progress in light of this scripture. Am I running free of unnecessary weights? Am I running with endurance? Am I remaining focused on my overall purpose?
Run Free of Weights
Any runner knows that she must minimize resistance in what she wears. Extra ounds, whether in body weight or clothes, impede speed and performance.
Reach your dreams also requires running “light.” As the scripture above says, “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which easily ensnares us.”
Sin is easy enough to recognize, and we know what to do with it — repent. Weights, on the other hand, can be deceiving, for they are often obscured by well-intentioned motives. For example, excessive busyness is a common weight that is often rooted in the inability to say no or set boundaries.
Emotional baggage, such as regret and self-reproach for past failures and disappointments, will also weight you down.
Other common encumbrances include excessive amounts of time spent on activities such as hobbies, socializing, watching television, or shopping. All these are healthy in moderation, but overindulgence and imbalance will keep you from reaching your goals.
Make a list of all the things you need to lay aside, and prayerfully lift each area to God. If you have sinned, ask for God’s forgiveness. If are carrying negative emotional baggage, let it go. If you are wasting time, make a quality decision to make changes and hold yourself accountable.
Run with Endurance
I love the feeling of having completed a long distance run. But this feeling comes only after a series of events that severely test my endurance. The first few minutes are easy. After fifteen to twenty minutes, I hit what runners call “the wall.” My muscles ache. I’m burning up. I feel sluggish and fatigued. I can’t remember why I wanted to run. I’m convinced I can go no further.
But I push myself to keep going. After a few more minutes of pain, exhaustion and the longing to quit, I experience a sudden burst of euphoric energy. My mind is alert and focused. Running now feels effortless, and I easily complete the course.
There is perhaps no greater factor in long-term success than endurance. Anyone can be enthusiastic and confident when bursting through the starting gate. But how do we react when we encounter obstacles and pain?
Be tenaciously determined to finish the course. Push yourself to keep going, despite the obstacles. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Refuse to give in to feelings of fatigue and discouragement.
I like the way best-selling author H. Jackson Brown, Jr. describes perseverence in The Complete Life’s Little Instruction Book: “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins — not through strength but by perseverence.”
Run with Focus
Finally, running a successful race means staying focused. Nothing will throw a runner off stride or slow her down more than turning to look at the runner coming behind her or glancing at the crowds in the stands to see how they are reacting to her performance.
In the race of purpose, distractions will throw you off stride and sometimes steer you in a direction that leads you farther from, rather than closer to, your dream. Comparing yourself with otheres or seeking their accolades will also hinder you from running with effectiveness.
Running with focus means not sweating the small stuff. It means keeping our eyes on the big picture, and not becoming discouraged by setbacks.
As you apply these principles, you will successfully run the race of purpose and reach every one of your dreams.

As any Pit Bull owner will tell you, Pit Bulls are very social
and crave a lot of time and attention from their owners. They
are very devoted and loving. Pit Bulls often have a hard time
coping when their owners have to leave them alone. Your Pit Bull
doesn’t understand that although you love him very much, you
cannot stay with him all of the time. It is important to train
them well, so that they can better deal with this separation
anxiety. Pit bulls will often suffer from separation anxiety for
a number of different reasons. Often, if you have had your Pit
Bull since it was a puppy, and if you have a strong bond, he is
just unable to deal with you being away from him. This is often
made worse if you have always made it a point to keep your pit
bull at your side, and then all of a sudden are unable to. Young
puppies will occasionally suffer from separation anxiety when
they are taken away from their mother. Pit Bulls don’t know how
to handle the symptoms of separation anxiety, and will often
give in to destructive behavior to try to make themselves feel
better. If they have free reign in your house while you are
gone, they may give in to the urge to chew on your furniture or
belongings that are in reach. If you are gone for a long period
of time, or if your Pit Bull is highly susceptible to stress, he
may also suffer from diarrhea, nausea, and may use the potty in
the house when he is otherwise housebroken. Most dogs suffering
from a case of separation anxiety will show symptoms usually in
the first hour or so the owner is away. There are a few things
that caring owners can do to help ease or eliminate separation
anxiety in their Pit Bulls. Crate training is often very helpful
because it gives the Pit Bull his own safe space, so that he
will feel comfortable and secure usually even if you are not
around. Sometimes having a special chew toy that you only give
your Pit Bull when you have to leave may help eliminate anxiety,
or at least give him something safe to chew on while you are
away. Some owners also say that leaving a radio or television on
while they are away also helps. Pit Bulls that have went thru
obedience training courses generally are less affected by
separation anxiety. In extreme cases of separation anxiety that
seem untreatable, your veterinarian may be able to prescribe
some medication to help, at least in dealing with the symptoms.
He may also recommend other methods of keeping your Pit Bull
calm when you are away that may be successful. Pit Bulls crave a
lot of love and attention, so sometimes all it takes is a little
extra time from you when you are home to make them feel better
when you have to be away.

Do you have lots of JavaScript coding in the header section of
your web pages? Do you re-list your CSS styles at the top of
every page? Do you have JavaScript coding spread throughout your
web pages?
If you answered yes to any of these questions your site may be
driving away search engine spiders and losing search engine
position ranking.
As you can imagine search engine spiders have a lot of pages to
get through on the web when they are indexing sites. To improve
their speed and efficiency search engines program their spiders
to give up easily if they have problems with a page or if they
have to wade through too much code to find the relevant content.
This is one of the reasons why it is so important to put your
keywords as close to the top of the page as possible. This way
the search bot will see the keywords before giving up and moving
on to the next page.
But what do you do if you have lots of JavaScript code or CSS
styles pushing your keywords down the page in your coding? You
need to find a way to cut down on all that code that gets in the
way of the search engines properly indexing your page.
We do this by moving the JavaScript and CSS styles off the page
and into external files. This is a fairly easy and straight
forward process and can have the added benefit of making your
pages load faster as well, which the search engines also like.
In many ways CSS styles and JavaScript work in a similar
fashion. You set up functions in a script or formatting in a
style sheet section, and then refer to that section in your html
code. For instance if you have a JavaScript that displays a
clock on your page you would have the JavaScript functions for
the clock listed in your head section, then you would simply
call that function from the place on the page where the clock
would be displayed.
Similarly with CSS you set up your styles ahead of time in a
Styles section of the page head, then you simply refer to the
styles as needed in your html coding. One benefit of this is
that it cuts down dramatically on the amount of formatting code
needed when compared to using Font tags.
If you want to use the same JavaScript or CSS styles on a
different page you could copy all that code onto the new page.
But this would cause two distinct problems, first you would be
adding a lot of code to each page and second if you wanted to
make a change to the JavaScript or CSS styles you would need to
do so on every page that the code had been copied onto.
Both of these problems can be solved simply by using external
files. You create one external file for your CSS and another
file for your JavaScript. These could be named mysite.css for
the CSS and mysite.js for the JavaScript. These files can be
created in any plain text editor or html code editor, they are
nothing more than files that contain most of the CSS or
JavaScript code from the web pages.
With JavaScript you have an opening JavaScript tag, then a
comment tag, then assorted functions and what not, followed by a
closing comment tag and a closing JavaScript tag. Your external
file would start with the opening comment tag, contain all the
functions and such, and end with the closing comment tag. You
would leave both the opening and closing JavaScript tags in the
html page. If you have more than one JavaScript on the page you
can move all the code into one external js file. Simply copy it
into the file in the same order as it exists in the JavaScript
tags on the html page. You will only need the one pair of
opening and closing comment tags.
Once your JavaScript is moved off the page you will need to tell
the web page where to find it. This is done in the JavaScript
tag that was left on the page in the head section. Right now
this will be an opening JavaScript tag placed right up against
the closing JavaScript tag, with no additional code in between.
You will place the reference to the external JavaScript code
inside the opening JavaScript tag like this:
script language=”JavaScript” type=”text/JavaScript”
src=”mysite.js”
Placing CSS styles in an external file is handled in exactly the
same manner. Move the styles into the external file, and then
refer to that external file with your style tag in the head
section of the web page like this:
link href=”mysite.css” rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css”
An added benefit of moving the code into external files is that
you can then change the styles of your whole site simply by
changing the code in the one external file.
Once you have moved the code into external files you will have
greatly simplified the code on each page. This will take you a
long way towards making your pages lean and mean, and very
search engine friendly.

Are you thinking of applying for a new credit card? If so, you may want to begin asking yourself what your personal financial goal is. After you’ve recognized your own needs, you can then pick the category of card you desire and begin your journey to compare credit card offers.
For a student who is applying for a first credit card there are a number of credit cards available that include a variety of features. The benefits of each card vary and can include 0% APR introductory, no annual fee, and rewards offered such as cash back, selected merchandise and entertainment
Quite often a student credit card has a lower credit limit which is actually a plus. It introduces the student to the world of credit, while limiting the chance of running up too large of a bill. An added bonus of a student credit card is it helps to build that needed credit rating which is important in today’s world. Of course, the student needs to maintain the credit card account in accordance to the issuing company’ terms and conditions.
There are available airline credit cards. But if you wish to travel on more than one airline, perhaps a rewards credit card that offers bonus travel points would be more suitable. The benefit to a reward card would be that the owner has a choice of how to spend those bonus points. In addition to air miles, the added choices include cash back, selected merchandise, entertainment and gift certificates.
If you already have a number of credit cards that you’re paying the minimum balance and they charge an interest rate of more than 0% APR, you might consider a balance transfer credit card. With an introductory 0% APR, you could have anywhere from six to eighteen months to pay down your debt interest free.
Even if you already have bad credit there are still credit card opportunities for you to apply and even receive instant approval. A credit card for people with bad credit, has a higher interest rate than cards for more stellar credit. However you can avoid these higher fees if you pay your balance billed each month. After you’ve been able to rebuild your credit, you can then talk to the issuer and get a lower interest rate or reapply for a lower interest credit card.
Two additional cards are available for people with bad credit or for people who don’t really want to owe on a credit card, but need a card for the convenience of ordering merchandise by telephone or on the internet. These are prepaid credit cards and debit cards.
These two types of cards can be obtained by completing an easy application and making a specified deposit. They work just like a regular credit card and are also accepted at any ATM machine, giving you total access to your available funds.

It’s very important to know the background behind the process
of Paid Survey taking. There are several questions that need to
be addressed before you decide to get out there and start
getting paid for taking part in online surveys.
Question: Can you really make money from taking part in
paid surveys?
Answer: Yes, ofcourse you can! Don’t ever doubt the
process, because it’s been proven that it works over and over
again. There’s an incredibly abundant source of survey providers
on the net that are always looking for new subjects(you) to
complete their articles. Not only this but the internet is
contantly being flooded with new companies all the time, which
means that your future in this business is safe and is always
going to be constant!
Question: What are these surveys like?
Answer: It’s impossible to answer this question because
each different survey provider - Market Research Company(MRC) -
provide different surveys for different markets. Let’s say you
joined an MRC that creates surveys for a pharmaceutical company.
They would obviously ask you to complete a survey relevant to
the drug market. A possible example question might be - “Have
you ever taken the drug Prozac before?” Really, there are no
limits to the kinds of surveys you can take part in.
Question: How long are they?
Answer: The length of surveys varies alot. If I was to
say how long the average survey is, I would probably say about
60 questions, which would take you about 10 minutes to complete.
That survey might make you $30. Pretty good for 10 minutes of
your time, right?
Question: What’s the best way to get started?
Answer: Ok. Getting started is quite easy. What’s most
important is that you make the right decisions. Firstly you have
to find all the MRC’s before you can start taking part in their
surveys, obviously! There are several sites on the internet that
rank most of the MRC’s from best to worst. Let’s call them
Survey Databases. Do some research and make sure you find the
best site to join. Once you have joined, you’ll then be ready to
get out there and start signing up for every possible MRC you
can find. Check your Survey Database often as they are
constantly updating new MRC’s for you to join. Remember the more
you sign up for, the more money your going to make!
Question: So you’ve signed up for a Survey Database and
now your going to start joining the MRC’s listed. How can you
increase the likelihood of obtaining invitations to Paid Surveys?
Answer: MRC’s require you to entire a bit about yourself
before they alow you to join. This is the telling difference for
whether or not you are going to get invitations to the surveys
they provide. Now I suggest you don’t lie. Tell them the truth
about yourself. Add every little detail possible - can you
cook?, have you travelled?, what are your hobbies? etc etc. The
more you tell them about yourself, the higher the chances of
gaining an invitation to many of their surveys.
Ok, you’re now on the road to success. I implore you to persist
with your efforts and from my experience, I can tell you that
when that first check arrives in the mail, you’re going to be
absolutely ecstatic!
