Mobile Phones: The Amazon Dilemma Solved

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

When you’re browsing in a bookshop, do you ever wonder: “Is it cheaper on Amazon? Does Amazon have that edition in stock?” This is the Amazon Dilemma The past year has seen a new breed of websites that have arrived to help consumers address this problem and find the best price and availability, whilst on the move, for the price of a text or phonecall.

The first is a US site, www.ringfo.com, which allows mobile phone owners to call a dedicated phone number and enter, via the phone’s keypad, a code found on the bar code of the book (International Standard Book Number or ISBN). A computer-generated voice then reads the current price and customer reviews at amazon.com.

British site www.SMSprice.co.uk relies on SMS text messages to communicate with consumers, this time the ISBN code is sent by SMS and a reply is sent straight back containing the price and availability, from Amazon’s UK site.

Finally Australians are catered for by Buymate, which will return prices from a number of Australian stores.

These are examples of how access to Internet information on-the-move helps the consumer make an informed choice in-store. The reason these work as on-the-go services is that the timeliness of the information is key. The consumer needs to know the on-line price and availability while they are still shopping; waiting until they next access a computer is too late if the in-store offer proves the better deal. .

It is interesting to note that these sites do not use WAP or 3G Internet technologies but make use of technologies that larger sections of the population are familiar with, text messaging, or in the US where text messaging is not so prevalent, touch tone phones. Both allow a simple interface and the number can be stored in the phone’s phonebook for easy retrieval.

These services have been made possible by Amazon’s open approach to their data. In July 2002 Amazon made their data available to independent developers, allowing them to query the Amazon database from their websites and applications. This is a classic win win situation: independent websites can integrate extra content to their sites; meanwhile Amazon’s army of developers (over 140,000 according to their website) create new ways to present Amazon’s data, ultimately drawing more people to the products.

All this means that consumers have access to innovative new services, like Ringfo and SMSprice, designed to help them save money.

Joseph, A Broken Man Made Whole

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

It has been said that in order for something to be fixed, it
must first be broken.

“For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power; it is
sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the
dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and the (immortal)
spirit, and of joints and marrow, exposing and sifting and
analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the
heart.” Heb. 4:12 (Amplified)

God’s word is compared to a very sharp double sided
sword. It’s cut goes deep, to the very core of who we are. It
seperates our souls (our minds, will and emotions) from
our spirits. It’s here where God exposes our motives. God
can not be fooled by our superficial actions, He knows our
hearts. This is where He convicts us and severs us off from
our sinful nature. Once God brings these things to light in
our spirits, we then become aware of our brokeness and
this is what hurts. This is the broken state He puts us in. We
will get wounded in action if our will does not line up with
His will. It’s here where God must break us before He can
heal us. And once He heals us, we will be better than before
in that area.

It’s the same process of a wound or a broken bone. Anyone
who has ever recovered from surgery will know that in order
to heal correctly, the wound has to heal from the inside out
or else it’s apt to get infected. It’s a long slow process but
once it’s healed, it’s like new. And broken bones are the
same thing, once it’s been broken in a certain area, it
becomes stronger and won’t break in the exact same spot
again.

I want to use Joseph, the earthly father of our Savior as an
example. He was broken and betrayed and God used this
time to show him that He was in control and could fix it
better than even Jospeh had imagined!

We don’t really know much about this man, the Bible doesn’t
say too much about him, but when you take the time to
meditate on the words of his part in history, you will see him
in a whole new light, the lesson he teaches us is rich and
meaningful.

The first thing we learn about Joseph in reading the first 16
verses in Matthew is that Joseph came from a royal lineage
from King David. And also that like his ancestor before him,
Joseph no doubt had a heart after God. He was obedient
and loved God. He was upright and righteous before God
and this could be one reason why he was chosen to
represent the father of God’s Son. God needed a solid
family foundation for His Son to be born into, just as God
wants this for all His children today. It wouldn’t have looked
right for Jesus to be the child of a single parent. So thus,
Joseph was the chosen man for the job. But just as any
normal person, Joseph knew what it felt like to be heart
broken.

We learn in the book of Matthew that Joseph was very much
in love with a young Jewish girl named Mary. Anyone who
has ever been in love for the first time will never forget how
that felt. It’s like walking on clouds and as far as you are
concerned, no one else exists in your life. It’s simply
wonderful and a joyous time in any person’s life.

In those days, people were betrothed to one another before
the actual marriage ceremony, only it was written up as a
legal document. It couldn’t be broken like we do today with
engagements. The only way out was to get a divorce. This
document was a legal commitment that the two lovers
would be abstinant and remain faithful to one another.

I can imagine how very happy Joseph must’ve been, he was
marrying his sweet young love, his life would be complete
and it was falling into place just as he prayed it would. God
was surely blessing him for his obedience.

Then it happened…his world was turned upside down. All
his hopes and dreams were dashed against the rocks. He
got the news that Mary, his betrothed was found to be
pregnant. He knew it was not his child she was carrying so
surely she must’ve been unfaithful to him. His heart must
have split in two as he heard this devastating news. But God
used him to teach us a valuable lesson today. Instead of
acting out on his own, like many of us would, Joseph sought
the Lord first and found out something that brought him
back to wholeness again.

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place under these
circumstances; When His mother Mary had been promised
in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was
found to be pregnant (through the power) of the Holy Spirit.”
Matt. 1:18 (Amplified)

All Joseph could hear at this point was that Mary was
pregnant and it wasn’t his child. Like many of us, he
assumed that she had betrayed him, what else could it be?
She broke his trust. The first thing Joseph intended to do
was get out of this marriage by quietly divorcing her.

“And her promised husband Joseph, being a just and
upright man and not willing to expose her publicly and to
shame and disgrace her, decided to repudiate and dismiss
(divorce) her quietly and secretly.” Matt. 1:19 (Amplified)

Jospeh was ready to handle the situation on his own and
we are much like that today. But instead, he did what we all
should do. He sought God first. We tend to think that
either God doesn’t care or He just isn’t listening so we have
to do something and do it quickly! It’s also normal that alot of
folks might have exposed her and put her to shame for what
she did. We like to get instant gratification when the going
gets tough. After all, we’ve been wronged and so we want
justification on our own moral behalf, no matter what the
cost. But, Joseph didn’t do that. He was still an upright and
righteous man before God and he knew that no matter how
badly Mary had broken his heart, it wasn’t his place to seek
revenge. He had to handle it God’s way. It wasn’t Joseph’s
intent to bring Mary disgrace, instead he got quiet with God
for counsel.

“But as he was thinking this over, behold an angel of the
Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, Joseph,
descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your
wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”
Matt. 1:20 (Amplified)

Wow, how relieved he must have felt when he heard that!
But there is one thing about this passage that I want to point
out. In order for an angel to appear, I think he had to have
been doing a little more than just “thinking” it over. He had to
have been deep in prayer with God. The scripture says the
angel came to him in a dream. I also don’t think that Joseph
just fell asleep either. He may have been in a dream state, a
place of coming to God in intamacy, into the Holy of Holies
if you will. God was his main focus and he was asking
God for an answer.

The Hebrew word for “dream” is keh-seh, which means,
“appointed time”. This dream that Joseph had, was God’s
appointed time to give him the glad tidings. If Joseph had
not sought after God at that time, he no doubt would’ve
missed the blessing that God had for him. If Joseph had
acted out on his own, he would’ve been out of God’s order
and thus changed the whole course of history. Think about
that for a minute.

When God tells us to seek Him first in all righteousness, He
will add everything else we need to our lives. (Mt. 6:33) And
this is exactly what happened to Joseph!

Since Joseph was obedient and went to God first, God
answered him through an angel that told him everything
was fine, it was just as God had intended it to be. The child
that Mary was carrying was not an act of betrayal, it was the
coming Messiah that was prophesied earlier by Isaiah.
What a complete feeling of humbleness and anointing that
must have come over Joseph when he learned of this.

“Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold a
young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive
and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (God
with us).” Is. 7:14 (Amplified)

So when Joseph heard the angel tell him the same thing he
must’ve jumped for joy!!!

“She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus
(meaning Savior). For He will save people from their sins.
All this took place that it might be fulfilled which the Lord had
spoken through the prophet.” Matt. 1:21,22 (Amplifed)

Imagine, Joseph a quiet and humble caprpenter from
Nazareth was going to be the father of Christ!

“Then Joseph, being aroused from his sleep, did as the
angel of the Lord had commanded him, he took her to be
his wife.” Matt. 1:24 (Amplified)

When God speaks to us today, we know that it is more than
just a dream. He reveals His ways to us through dreams
and visions, not our imagination. God had chosen Joseph
for this appointed time in history. We should examine
ourselves more closely and ask God to heal us of our
brokeness for His glory because we have been chosen for
such a time as this, there are reasons behind His actions
and it’s not for us to take the wheel or else we will hinder our
blessings and who knows, we could be altering our
destinies and the destinies of others because of our pride,
self righteousness and self pity. Learn to embrace your
brokeness and when you are healed, you will be all that
much better for it, when you seek God first!!!

Remember, when things are looking down, always look up
and ask the One who truly knows.

Free For All Sites: How They Can Actually Help Your Business

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Anyone whose been marketing online knows that generating leads
can be a time consuming and expensive experience. It’s something
that must be done however if you expect to make it in any
business. The money is in the list, as they say.

There are many different ways to generate leads. Some companies
will even give you leads for free when you join their
corporation. The problem with free leads like this is that they
can be old and possibly untargeted. I joined one network
marketing company that gave members free names and phone numbers
of people they said had requested information on working from
home. Of the hundreds of numbers I was given a large number were
disconnected or a wrong number, and even more had no idea where
I could have gotten their name from, and weren’t the least bit
interested in working at home. Others still remembered
requesting information, a year ago! As you can imagine these
leads were no where near as great as they had been made out to
be.

If you want fresh leads, 1 to 2 days old max, you can pay for
them, but they’re going to cost you. Some places charge a dollar
or more per lead, which can obviously add up very quickly. You’d
better have an amazing sales pitch and be prepared to follow up
with these leads if you expect to make your money back, and
hopefully a profit.

What if you don’t have the money to purchase quality leads, and
don’t want the hassel of trying to sell to people whose names,
numbers and email addresses have been given away for free all
over the place? At best they’ll hang up on you, or delete your
email. At worst they’ll be rude to you on the phone or report
your email as spam. There is an easier way to build you list,
that won’t cost you a thing. In fact it has the potential to
make you money. Free for all sites. Now before you say these
sites are useless, and that no one ever sees your ads, let me
explain. Of course these sites are worthless if you’re posting
to them, but what about the people hosting them? Not only do you
get the names and emails of people looking to make money on the
internet, but you can advertise to them as well. When they post
their ad on your FFA site, they’re required to confirm their
post via email. You can put your ad in the signature line of
every email you send to people, and then follow up with them in
a day or two. Plus a lot of these FFA sites pay you when someone
gets their own site under you. Depending on your marketing, this
alone could bring you in a nice monthly income, on the side of
your primary business.

Every FFA site is a little different. Some cost more to own and
run, and some are only good for generating leads, but they won’t
pay you. Usually you can sign up for free with an option to
upgrade. Depending on what benefits they offer pro members, this
can be a real advantage to have. You can upgrade at some sites
for under $20 per month. That’s pretty cheap when you think
about everything you’re getting in return. Finding these sites
isn’t hard either, just do a search on your favorite search
engine for FFA’s or Free For All, and start looking at what
different ones offer. If you’re not comfortable paying right
away, sign up for free and get a feel for how the site works,
and then upgrade if you’re satisfied.

GPS Pet Tracking

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

If you have a dog or cat that is an escape artist with cross-country travel on its mind, you might want to consider a GPS pet–tracking device. The same technology that enables rangers to follow tagged animals will allow an owner track straying or lost pets. You can choose either a collar design or a backpack type that works with a harness.

Before you rush out to buy a GPS pet–tracking device you need to consider a few things. Firstly, in addition to the system having a GPS receiver, a transmitter is required so the animal’s location can be reported. This usually means a service provider is needed.

Some pet–tracker systems are used with GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) that uses your GSM mobile phone and a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card for tracking. Note the SIM card provider needs to have a service in the area where you’ll be using the device.

There are various ways of accessing the information that your GPS receives. These include via home phone, Internet, and software installed on your computer. Phone access is not recommended and installed software limits your access to information. Internet access to your GPS data is the recommended way to go. You just log on, enter your password and your pet is located.

Pet finding software allows you to define your pet’s boundaries and upload them to your computer. If your pet goes beyond its boundaries then an alarm will sound and you can quickly locate where the animal has gone. If you are traveling with your pet beyond its boundaries you can disable the alarm, or if you are visiting another area you can upload new boundaries. Most systems allow you have more than one area entered.

All GPS units vary in sophistication as does the pet–tracking GPS. You can choose a unit that gives location and nothing else, or you can purchase a device that will give you location and the information of how to get there, including reference points along the way. As in any product, what you spend will define the abilities of your system. If your animal is a water lover make sure that the unit is waterproof.

There is a difference between dog tracker collars and GPS pet–tracking devices. The former are usually limited in range to about half a mile and are ineffective if your animal has been stolen and removed from the area. Beacon devices can only be seen within the range of the light.

A GPS Pet-tracking device that is not being worn is useless. If you invest the money, make sure that your pet wears his/hers all the time. Yes, animal snatchers will sometimes remove collars, but a surprising number don’t think about doing so. Combined with micro chipping and registration, pet–tracking GPS devices will go a long way to ensure that your lost pet will be located.

Bedroom Feng Shui: 8 Important Considerations

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

1.Color and design are critical.
Paint bedrooms with calm, soothing colors. Good color choices for bedrooms are skin colors: yellows, browns, taupes, pinks, or beige. Avoid blue or dark-colored ceilings, wallpaper with plants or flowers (a feng-shui no-no for bedrooms), actual plants or flowers in the bedroom, or water elements, such as fish, lakes, or water.

2.The bed is where it’s at.

Make sure the bed is at the widest part of the room and the door to the room can be seen from the bed. This is a critical feng shui element. Bed placement is extremely important especially if the bed is placed on the same wall as the bedroom door. This will bring serious disagreements for the couple.

The bed should also not face a bathroom, see a toilet, share the same wall as a toilet, or be directly opposite a door. It’s also best if the bed doesn’t face a closet or bookshelves of some kind.

Also, be sure to give yourself some support. Beds that have the headboard to a window give little support. If this is the best (or only) position for the bed, place a wooden screen between the bed and the window to simulate a wall or hang heavy drapes that can be closed at night.

Headboards are best if they are solid. Iron bars can create headaches and lack of support. Lastly, don’t go out without making your bed. Really, now, how hard is it to make a bed?

3.Look Up.
Got a ceiling fan whirring above your bed? Lots of us do. This could be cooling you down… literally and romantically. Ceiling fans above the bed disrupt your body’s chi (energy) — and your romantic chi. You also might avoid turning on the fan for a week and see what happens… who knows? If you are trying to conceive, turn the fan off altogether.

4.Look down.

If there’s junk piled under the bed, remove it. Store soft items such as winter clothes, blankets, or pillows, if you just have to. Be absolutely sure there are no dangerous items such as guns, knives, or other harsh instruments under the bed. These harm your health, your romance, and your sleep.

5.Remove reflections.
Mirrors and televisions should not be in the bedroom — or any reflective surfaces. This creates disruptive chi in the bedroom that harms sleep — or creates divorces.

6.Decorate sparingly.

Decorating the room correctly is important. Look at all the elements here to get more ideas about appropriate decorating for your romantic retreat.

Absolutely no plants, water, and flowers in the bedroom. Take all plants, flowers, and water features out of the bedroom. Water and plants can drown the energy in a bedroom. Even pictures featuring water, ice, or snow are poor bedroom decorating choices.

Flowers give off too much male (yang) energy, also making a poor choice for a restful bedroom. Dried flowers should be removed as they are dead energy. Seeing or hearing water from the bed (view of the bathroom, maybe?) can create financial problems and sinus/respirator problems.

7. Remove objects of work.

These can be treadmills or other exercise equipment, desks, computers, bookshelves filled with work-related books, or objects that remind either of you of something to do. Even hobbies and projects are not good choices for your love nest.

8. Keep it clean.

The bedroom is the place where you restore yourself after a long day. It should be clean and neat. Make sure it is cleaned regularly, or you can expect problems with health or finances. This also includes closets in your bedroom. Make sure they are neat and that you can find what you are looking for quickly.

Lastly, make needed repairs. Ask yourself if your room is in good working order? Is the carpet coming up or do the windows stick? Your room must function well on all levels. This includes making sure the door opens and closes correctly - and locks, too! Oil creaky door hinges.
