BT Unveils New Business-Oriented Broadband Service

January 2010 witnessed BT making two smart moves to capture a larger chunk of the broadband market. A new business-oriented fibre broadband product by the company hit the market on the heels of the release of BT’s first dedicated consumer fibre service, Infinity.
The new product named BT Business Total Broadband Fibre seeks to give users faster download and upload speeds of up to 40MB and 10MB, respectively. The service gives traffic priority at times of heavy network congestion to users of the Business Total Broadband Fibre, and enables the use of multiple Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), provides improved video conferencing facilities and runs special business-grade cloud applications smoothly. The company believes this service would be an effective solution to people working from home because it will allow them to work more efficiently even as they constantly remain in touch with their offices.
The BT Business Total Broadband Fibre has been launched under four schemes. A subscriber has to pay a connection fee of £75, while tariffs are between £30 and £50 per month. The contract period for the service has been kept at 12 to 24 months. All plans come with a BT Business Fibre Hub.
Nigel Stagg, the Managing Director of BT Business, pointed out that the service could prove very beneficial to businesses. He said research conducted by the company in 2009 showed that over a quarter of its businesses in the country were using faster broadband to improve their web-based services, while another quarter had taken to using more online processes on a large scale.
