What Christmas Gifts Do People Actually Want?

Filed under: Online Shopping Resources, Lifestyle Center — admin @ 2:25 am

Before buying random gifts and hoping that they will be pleasing to the recipient, read this article and learn how to avoid aimless gift buying. Learn how to buy something they want, or better yet, get them a gift card and spend the rest of the day enjoying time together.

Christmas gets more over-blown and expensive with each passing year. Christmas is time for picking up piles and piles of wrapping paper and trying to figure out how to fit gifts in cars, even though every year we swear that the next year we will be better prepared. Everyone loves gifts (especially kids), but is that a reason to lose our minds every year at the mall?

No one can ever know what everyone else knows. The theory seems to be that if you just buy a lot of stuff for a person you will please them because you increased the odds. If you really want to go all out for someone, then do some research first. Check with people who know what they want and need. In the course of the year, make a few subtle inquiries so when the gift occasion arises you won’t be stumped. Hopefully this will deter you from spending your money on worthless trinkets and gadgets. If all these ideas do not work then there is nothing wrong with gift cards. You can make this personal in any number of ways. How about adding home made biscuits, or a card with a personal message that means something uniquely to them? The gift of getting to spend time with family and friends is way greater than any gift can give you.

Though many people agree that gift cards are impersonal, isn’t it more impersonal to buy someone a gift they don’t need or want? Gift cards are a great back-up plan when research and questioning have failed to provide you with any ideas. For the most part people either don’t know what they want, or they don’t know how to express it. This group can also be pleased in a variety of ways. Here is a great site for some unique gifts for everyone.

Fishing In The South Pacific

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 6:20 pm

The South Pacific has long been known because of the exciting
experiences the waters can offer. It has been famous to tourists
and even neighboring countries because of adventures and
excitements it can offer. Many fishermen come to New Zealand
when summers draws to a close. This is the season when tuna and
billfish swim closer to the shores to find a warmer place.

During the remaining seven months of the year, that is the time
for the fishermen to have a great time especially the months
after the winter. You do not need many things to bring to enjoy
the exciting destinations of the South Pacific. All you need is
your clothes and hats and off you go.

Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Niue are places that
most tourists visit to fish. These spots have been the highest
rated fishing vacation sites because of the abundant fish and
the weather as well. These spots have temperatures that attract
fish, which explains why there are abundant fish in these
places. Fishing in these spots is never complicated. You can
even target sailfish and mahi-mahi with your own tackle.

Sailfish have been famous for their aerobatics with their sails
dashing in the sunlight. It is also in the South Pacific that
you will witness a big bull mahi-mahi lure you out. For the
adventurers, this is also a chance for you to cast “poppers” and
jigs to a dogtooth tuna or a trevally.

These hotspots are perfect not only to those who like to cook
what they catch but also for those who have the “catch and
release” philosophy. Game fishermen in these places usually
catch sailfish, Northern Blue Tuna, Marlin, Spanish mackerel,
Red Emperor, Trevally and Cod.

If you are someone who loves fly-fishing, creek fishing and blue
water fishing, then the South Pacific is perfect for you.
Whether you are an expert or a beginner, there are many skilled
and experienced fishing guides and best quality boats that are
safe and will ensure that you will have the best fishing
experience.

It is recommended to hire a sport fishing or a specialist game
fishing boat for to have fun and make the most out of your
fishing trip. Game fishing and sport fishing are both popular in
these spots. These are games that were used to be played only by
the rich but on these spots anybody can play!

How to Ease Travel Sickness this Summer

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 12:03 am

Travel sickness, whether brought on when travelling by air, sea
or car is a nightmare. If you are unprepared then the resulting
mess and smell can affect other people, spreading almost like a
virulent virus. On a plane or in the car the smell can take ages
to disappear - not ideal if you are at the start of a touring
holiday.

Travel sickness and in particular car sickness is often thought
to affect mostly children, however medical opinion estimates
that 80% of the population suffer from motion sickness at some
point in their lives. My daughter was fine until the age of 6,
when we discovered that the delay between announcing feeling
sick and actually vomiting is so small as to be insignificant.
Now 10, she only reads on a motorway or dual carriageway.

Motion sickness occurs when the brain can’t match the
information it is receiving from: 1) Inner ears, which sense in
which directions you are moving 2) Eyes, which see what
direction you are moving 3) Skin receptors, which detect which
parts of your body are touching the ground 4) Muscles and joint
sensory receptors, which tell you if you are moving muscles and
what position you are in

For example, if you are reading in a moving car, your inner ears
and skin receptors are telling your brain that you are moving
forward, but your eyes are on a stationary book and your muscle
receptors reporting that you are sitting still. For some people
this is OK, but for others some form of motion sickness will
start to build up.

Motion sickness can take the form of dizziness, fatigue, and
nausea which may progress to vomiting. Fear of motion sickness
can make these feelings a lot worse.

So what can be done to avoid motion sickness? When I was
involved in rallying 15 years ago I was fine driving, but
navigating was a real problem. I loved it dearly but suffered
dreadfully with motion sickness. It got so bad on one event that
I could hardly walk when I finally got out of the car. Whilst I
was never actually sick, the only way I could stop the nausea
was not to eat from getting up in the morning to the event,
which generally started in the early evening. I think you will
agree this is a bit extreme!

If you often suffer from motion sickness there are a few things
to try to make a journey more comfortable. 1) Avoid heavy meals
for two hours before the journey. Eat small amounts of something
dry such as crackers, crisps or biscuits before the journey,
don’t eat any dairy products and avoid salad and fruit as it can
be acidic. If possible don’t eat whilst on the trip. 2) Drink
small amounts of non natural drinks. Don’t drink milk or any
natural juices such as orange juice and others with citric acid.
Avoid alcohol. 3) Try anti motion sickness pills, either from
you doctor or homeopath. 4) Acupressure bands work well for some
people. 5) Studies have shown ginger root can be effective
against motion sickness. Ginger capsules are available or you
can try a dose of about 1/2 teaspoon of dry powdered ginger,
which is equivalent to approximately 1/3 ounce of fresh ginger
root, which is roughly a 1/4-inch slice. 6) Avoid staring out
the window for long periods of time as this can create motion
sickness. 7) Keep still and move gently. If possible stay where
there is the least movement. 8) Don’t read 9) Alternative
remedies such as EFT (or tapping), hypnosis or acupuncture may
help.

There are also a few things you can do to reduce the sensation
of motion sickness, even when it has started. 1) Move to the
point of least movement. Try and sit in the centre of the plane
or in the middle of the boat. On boats it often helps to lie
down, although it might feel like the last thing you want to do.
2) Sit facing forward. 3) Look at the distant scenery. 4) Get
some fresh air, but keep warm. 5) Avoid talking but try not
think about your motion sickness. 6) Move gently, don’t stand up
or move suddenly.

Sometimes the preventatives don’t work, so, particularly with
children in your nice clean car, it’s worth being prepared.
Having been car sick into my grandmother’s hat at a young age,
as a child I was used to travelling with a quite frankly
grotesque pink potty. Whilst this would catch the offending
substance, it didn’t contain it particularly well, meaning
having to stop the car to remove the contents and smell.

This wasn’t too difficult in the 60s and 70s, but with so much
traffic now it’s not always easy or safe to do. Plastic shopping
bags offer little help. Designed to just about hold together for
the trip home, they have holes in them, which prevent
suffocation but reduce the ability to hold liquid. Another
favourite, ice cream tubs work better than the pink potty, but
rely on the child to get the lid on without spilling.
Unfortunately they are wide but not very deep making spillage a
distinct possibility. The best option is the sick bag, as used
by airlines and ferries for many years. Sick bags work
brilliantly. They are simple for children to use, they are deep
so reduce spillage and the top can be rolled down, retaining the
contents and the smell. Some sick bags have a clip securing the
rolled down top and a flat bottom, meaning they can stand up on
the floor of the car, further reducing the risk of spillage.

As companies fight to bring costs of air and ferry travel down
sick bags are handed out almost on an as needed basis. The days
of accumulating a stock of sick bags from an air flight seem to
be over.

Top Ten Myths of Aircraft Ownership

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 12:48 am

1. Only the rich can afford one. . .

Not so! Many aircraft owners are earning moderate incomes. How
do they do it? Mostly through proper planning and a thorough
education prior to making their purchase. You can learn about
many aspects of purchasing an airplane at

www.airplanenoise.com

a website that’s nothing more than a compilation of helpful
resources for those who want to learn!

2. You must fly at least 50 hours a year before an aircraft
purchase is justifiable.

Well, it really depends on what you’re using as a reference. If
you’re trying to beat the cost of renting. . . find another way.
If you have some business use, rental use or a need to access an
airplane on demand your own aircraft is certainly justifiable.
Read more at http://www.aopa.org/members/files
opics/business_overview.html

3. If my business use is not the majority of my flying, I can’t
depreciate my airplane.

Wrong once again! Using the Sutherland Lumber case as precedent,
you may be able to depreciate the majority of the value of your
aircraft with as little as 27% business. Using Aviation Tax
Specialists is critical when planning tax strategies for
ownership of your aircraft. You can learn more at
http://www.advocatetax.com

4. It’s cheaper to own an older aircraft than a brand new one.

Probably not! With today’s tax incentives, better interest rates
for new airplanes and the controlled maintenance costs that a
warranty provides, in most cases a brand new aircraft is less
expensive. Additionally, your flying comfort level with the
dependable instruments and equipment of a new airplane will
confirm your decision to buy new.

5. Aircraft Salespeople are all “slime.”

My favorite! Sometimes the reputation of a few can tarnish an
entire industry! Not to worry. . . There are some great
salespeople out there who have your interest as their main
objective. For 10 tips to choosing a super salesperson, visit
http://www.airplanenoise.com op_ten.htm

6. I found a “cream puff” with a low-time engine!

Think that low-time engine is a good thing? Think again! The
best thing you can do for an airplane is FLY IT! Don’t be fooled
by this myth. . . It’ll cost you!
http://www.lycoming.textron.com/main.jsp?bodyPage=/support/public
ations/keyReprints/general/lowTimeEngine.html

7. Those “whiz bang” avionics on the new planes create inferior
pilots!

On the contrary! Today’s new equipment is all designed with
increased safety as the prime motivator! Weather systems,
traffic, navigational systems all provide the pilot with
additional tools and resources in the cockpit where they’re
needed! After all, what good are they on the ground? Of course,
the pilots need additional training to learn the equipment. . .
Inferior pilot????

20New%20Avionics.doc

8. Finding a partner will make my aircraft purchase easier.

Well, perhaps financially. But is the money you save worth
losing availability, as well as a friend/partner? There are
several areas for conflict from fair distribution of finances to
cleanliness of the airplane. Before I throw a wet towel over the
idea let me also admit that many partnerships are very
successful. Just remember. . . your choice of partner should be
taken very seriously. In fact some say that choosing your
partner is similar to choosing a spouse!
http://www.aopa.org/members/files/guides/multiple.html

9. Leasebacks are all 1-sided. (In favor of the flight school)

Just like choosing a partner, choosing the right flight school
to partner with is critical to the success of your leaseback. If
you’ve done your due diligence, you’ll find the leaseback
arrangement to be a “win-win-win” situation: The school wins
because they keep their cash for growing their business

The owner wins with revenue generated and terrific tax
incentives.

The flight students win because they now have one more airplane
at their disposal.

Once again. . . proper planning!

Learn the pros and cons of leasebacks:

10. I just can’t justify a new plane!

Sure you can! If you need help, visit

Outdoor activities for parent’s and their children

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 2:24 pm

Copyright 2006 Michael Cottier

An outdoor activity is something that everyone needs and should
do. Watching to much TV or just sitting inside is boring,
unhealthy and has no reward. Many people go outside and walk or
jog, but that too is pretty boring and unrewarding. So what can
you do outdoors that is both fun and healthy?

Many adults and young adults have forgotten that the best way to
exercise outdoors is to play like they did when they were a kid.
But how does an adult play outside? The best way is to start a
radio control hobby. RC hobbies like airplanes, boats, cars, and
helicopters are both fun and very rewarding. Imagine building
and then flying your own creation, or ripping across the waves
in your own little gas powered boat.

An RC hobby can also give you something fun to do with your
kids, who don’t exactly always want to hang out with their
parents. But trust me; if you are flying a radio controlled jet
then they will come running. You will also have something to
pass onto your children, like an airplane that both of you built
together, or a boat that you and your child have enjoyed many
times together.

By far the best RC vehicle that can be purchased is of course an
R/C airplane or helicopter. If an airplane is what you are going
to go for, then I recommend an Almost Ready to Fly plane or a
kit. This will allow you and your kid(s) to put it together with
you, giving you something extra to do with them and give them
some knowledge of building something. Then after you build it
you can fly it with them, which makes the flight twice as
rewarding.

Another RC flying toy that is fun would be a remote control
helicopter. Radio controlled helicopters are unique because they
hover and allow more control from the pilot. They are also
harder to master, so for the people who are looking for a quick
thrill you might not like it, but other’s who have a dedication
to it will love it. RC helicopters also offer a neat experience
at night since they can hover and can be equipped with lights.

If you want to experience the thrill of a speed boat on the
water, but don’t have the money to afford a real one, then a
radio controlled boat is perfect. With R/C boat engines
available in electric or gas powered, a beginner or an expert
could operate and maintain a RC boat. This is ideal since you
might not always be around but your children want to go outside
and have fun with it. A remote control boat is really the
easiest, but most rewarding, of all radio control hobbies.

The most popular R/C toy in the world is of course the remote
control car or truck. RC cars can be operated by virtually
anyone at any age, are easy to maintain and operate and are very
inexpensive to own. If you do plan on getting a R/C car or
truck, then I recommend an electric powered one to begin with,
then gradually progress towards a nitro powered engine. Just to
let you know, nitro fuel cars are hard to maintain and require
some experience and knowledge prior to operating.

My favorite outdoor activity out of all of them are model
rockets. Model rockets are of course not remote controlled (I
guess they could be) but none the less they are very fun and
should be considered. I love model rockets, and the reason is
because they are very realistic and not expensive. The engines
that blast them off really shoot out burst of flames and leave a
smoke trail behind the rocket, and the rocket’s cost around only
$20. Very cheap for such a realistic thrill and they are pretty
safe to operate.

Preparing For a Leather Craft Project

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 5:00 pm

Preparing For a Leather Craft Project

Once you’ve decided on your leather craft project, you’ll need
the right tools and room to do the work. Being prepared ahead of
time will make your task more enjoyable and give you a sense of
satisfation when you’re done. If you’re like most of us you’ll
probably be working on more leather craft projects over time, so
creating a designated area is probably a good idea.

What to Cut On

Regardless of the project, you’ll need to cut your piece of
leather. Choose a flat surface protected with a rubber mat. The
latter will help protect your tools and prevent them from
becoming blunt. Alternatively, you can purchase a self-healing
cutting board that comes with a grid work. Any cuts made in the
board seal up. This product is readily available at such shops
as Staples.

Marking the Cut

Use a ruler or yardstick and a pencil to mark the cut. Just make
a light mark with the pencil. A rounded edge will help if you’re
cutting a curve. Then place a metal straight edge along the line
you have drawn. Using the tip of an X-acto knife, cut along the
line, keeping the knife against the metal edge

Trimming the Edges

If you want to trim the edges of the leather, lay the piece out
on a flat surface. Make sure the leather is damp, and keep it so
by using a spray bottle full of water.

You’ll need what’s called an edge beveling tool to smooth the
cut edges. The two prongs that form its V shape need to be
positioned so that they are facing upward on both sides of the
edge.

Keeping the tool at a 45 degree angle, with your index finger on
the top of the tool, push it away from you along the cut edge,
holding the leather craft piece firmly with your other hand.

As you work, small strips of leather will come off. It’s a good
idea to practice on small scraps of leather before using the
leather craft beveller, so you feel comfortable with it and what
it can do.

Tools to Use

* Cutting board, preferably self-healing kind

* Ruler, pencil, metal straight edge, rounded edge

* X-acto knife

* Leather craft edge beveling tool

Summary

* Use a cutting board

* Mark where you want to cut before you cut!

* Dampen the leather when trimming the edges

* Butt the knife against a straight edge or a curved edge for
more control

More on Tools

For working in leather crafts, consider the basics: an awl and
spare point, a retractable X-acto knife and spare blades, a
retractable knife with a break-off blade and a rotary punch.

In addition, you’ll need needles, a lump of beeswax and some
waxed linen thread. As well, a pair of pliers to pull the needle
through the leather is a must, and scissors you can use for
cutting the leather.

Then there are edge slickers and bevellers that are used to
finish the edges, drive punches for bigger holes and thong
cutters for making laces. A T-square, compass and yardstick are
essential to ensure that your leather craft piece is measured
accurately.

If you’re just starting out with leather crafts, you might not
want to spend a lot of money on tools. Once you’ve worked with
the basic set and completed a few leather craft projects, you’ll
have a better idea of what tools work best and what you use
most.

At that point, a little research and some comparative shopping
can lead you to acquiring better quality leather craft tools
that will enhance your work. Of course, even the most expensive
tools won’t help if you haven’t taken the time to develop and
perfect your skills.

If you do your very best with what you have, it doesn’t matter
if you can’t afford the most expensive leather craft awl or the
latest knife. Quality will show anyway.

Summary

* Start with a basic leather craft tool set

* Buy better quality tools once you’ve completed some projects
and have a better idea of what will enhance the quality of your
work

How to Remove Sticky Labels from New Clothing

How to Remove Sticky Labels from New Clothing (Quickly and
Easily!)

by LeAnn R. Ralph

I recently acquired three new pairs of jeans. This particular
brand (Field & Forest) came with a long label pasted down the
back of one leg.

I tried and tried to peel the label off, but all that happened
was small pieces of it broke off. The majority of the label
remained stubbornly stuck to the pants.

“I can’t wear them that way!” I said to myself.

Then I remembered that non-aerosol hairspray removes ink from
clothing. It is not necessarily the hairspray that works, I
know, it’s the alcohol. I keep a spray bottle of ordinary
rubbing alcohol in the bathroom to clean the faucets and the
toilet and my eyeglasses, and I wondered if the alcohol would
work on labels.

I retrieved the alcohol from the bathroom, sprayed the label on
one new pair of jeans, waited a minute or two, got a paring
knife out of the drawer in the kitchen — and presto! The label
peeled off so quickly and easily, I could hardly believe it. The
alcohol dried in 10 minutes, and I was able to wear my new pair
of jeans.

To remove a sticky label that refuses to peel off a new piece of
clothing, try this:

1. Spray the label with ordinary rubbing alcohol, or, if you
don’t have any rubbing alcohol, use non-aerosol hairspray.

2. Wait a minute or two.

3. Gently scrape the label off the clothing with a paring knife,
a butter knife or another straight edge, such as a credit card
or a ruler.

4. Wait 5 or 10 minutes for the alcohol to dry — and you’re on
your way!

What Makes Star Tattoos So Popular? Everything from Shooting Star Tattoos, to Nautical Star Tattoos

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 11:13 am

Star tattoos seem to be a pretty old and yet a very popular design. It is one of the most requested custom designs. Why are they so popular and are they over rated? You know there is this on going controversy between the “tattoo traditionalists” and the new generation of “tattooers”. I put those in quotes because they are terms that I made up for this article.

A “tattoo traditionalists” like the old school tattoos. Things that are done in black ink and nothing that would be considered popular. They feel that each tattoo should be unique and say something about the individual. They are strongly against anyone that gets a tattoo because it is a popular design. For example they are against star tattoos because of their popularity. They would most likely be against the good old tribal arm band tattoo or a barbed wire arm band etc. You know the tattoo designs that are so popular and done over and over again. The “tattoo traditionalists just hate these.

The new generation of “tattooers” are pretty much the opposite. They like what is cool and hip and want to get tattoos done that are popular and in style. They will often look at celebrity tattoos or the tattoos of friends to get their ideas from which they might do some customizing and etc. Their designs typically feature a lot of color and are bright!
I have written more about these groups in other articles so for now I will stick to the topic at hand of star tattoos. You see there is a phenomenal growth in star tattoo designs. Tons of people want to get everything from simple star tattoos, groupings of moon and star tattoos, nautical stars, and even shooting stars. Star tattoo designs are pretty much everywhere.

So why are they so popular?

1. Star tattoo designs and celestial tattoos are especially popular themes among women and this is a rapidly growing market.

2. Star tattoos can be very gender neutral. Men and women can get star tattoos done.

3. Star tattoos are often inexpensive to get designs of and cost very little to get done.

4. Star tattoos often make a great first tattoo design for someone who is a little worried about getting started in tattoos. They are small and easily covered up and also less painful to get because of their size and therefore popular among first timers.

5. Star tattoos because of their size can fit into or among other existing designs or can make great cover up of a bad tattoo.

6. Stars are pretty universal symbols of good things. Most all religions have some type of star symbolism and star and stars don’t make a strong statement about the world but just kind of thought of as fun and light hearted.

So who is right? Are star tattoos a great design to get done like the new generation of tattooers is doing or should you avoid them at all costs because they are not unique and they are overdone like the traditionalists would say?

Well, like all great questions in life and in the world of tattoo design the decision really is your to make. It will be your tattoo and one that you will live with for a long time. I think the best middle ground between the two groups is to just get something you like. If you like star tattoos for their own sake if they are popular or not then go ahead and get one and who cares. However if you are just getting a star tattoo because your friend just did or because the latest pop diva got one then it might be better to wait. Either way the choice is your to be made.

Chris has been running Design My Tattoos website for the last three months. He
likes helping people find the custom tattoo designs and where to get them done by professional tattoo artists.
Check out the site and post a job to get your own custom tattoo design. If you are a tattoo artist
and would like to earn some extra income go ahead and sign up as an artists and
make some money in your spare time. Check out this article on

star and shooting star tattoos on the site.
